come to think of it, I think they would look good on the back of my car... hmmm, notice how the qtr isnt as far out as the sideskirt. Put me down as being interested in them.

When I started this thread, I was gauging interest in the flares I came up with and even sketched out some basic molds that I wanted to put into urethane. (Fiberglass wouldn't do, since in SCCA sometimes a cone will tag your car) Originally, I was considering producing Fiero-specific bolt on flares, and was even considering using a mounting system that would allow to have the fenders bolted on without having to drill through the fenders to mount them, and then I would sell these on eBay and here on Fiero.nl, But, since I don't have a Fiero anymore that sorta rains on my parade, doesn't it?
Oh well. It'd be neat if somebody actually took some inspiration from what I came up with and applied that to their Fiero.
I do like the flares, I'm not sure if I would use them, but I want to see a set in person. I understand as well were your coming from with the lower cost/faster changeout than widebody. Brad

I think the key is to design the flares to blend in with the body lines as if it were a factory bolt-on option. For a clean look the fasteners should be hidden by mounting from the inside. However, due to the body side trim it wouldn't look right to mould the flares into the fenders. Instead, a nice tight tailored fit will work well similar to what Audi did on the Allroad.

no, a fiero is out of the question for my next vehicle-- not that I wouldn't like one, it's just that there's not enough out there for it, and I want to buy something that'll be a hardcore SCCA racer, newer than 1990 that'll run me less than 15k. I most probably will opt for a Miata, Honda S2000, Toyota MR2 Turbo (the SW20 models look suspiciously like Fiero GT's...), Firebird WS6, BMW Z3 2.8, Audi A6 2.7TT, 300ZXTT, 3000GT VR4, 1Gen Eclipse AWD, and a few others which I am most probably forgetting,
However, I did quite a number of designs for fiero parts, so maybe those will get published.
I would say that a closer comparison to the Fiero GT body would be the SW20 (1990-1999) Toyota MR2, particularly the turbo models, rather than the Lotus Esprit. The Esprit's body lines are too different from the Fiero, imho.
However, flares done in that style would look good, but I would probably exaggerate the flaring a little bit more to 1) make it more obvious and 2) allow fatter tires to squeeze in.
At the same time let it be said that if given the choice between spending the money for tires on wider tires or higher-rated tires, spend the money on like Z or W rated tires. I've found that super sticky tires make such a huge difference, but the best is combining the two: width with extremely sticky tires. just don't try to burn out.
