Well, things have been pretty hectic around here for the last few weeks with my best friend, Kenny, moving here from Germany and Bill moving down from Boston. The shop seems to be doing fairly well and I just picked up a contract to be an installer for a local high performance shop. Well I decided I have been looking at my personal ride for too long thats been collecting dust inside my garage. So I installed the white face guages I have had for about a yr now...... SOOOOO EASY! You dont have to take the needles off to my surprise. I removed the dash and most of the interior and swapped in the auto trans shifter, brake pedal (what a PITA), shifter cable and 4cyl throttle cable. I also got around to cleaning and repainting my 88 rear cradle. Maybe this weekend I will install the poly suspension bushings and start my Zettner front brake conversion.

Jessie's 87 GT 4.9 conversion is coming along quite well. I have the engine mocked up on the cradle and installed the poly bushings in it as well. Ed Parks sent out the wiring harness and other odds and ends yesterday so that should be here anytime. So get ready Jessie, and buy some new rear tires now!

More later.

Just recieved the 4.9 harness and mounts from Ed Parks. Unfortunetly he sent the $275 mount kit instead of the $500+ one so now thats on its way now.

Looks exciting, the harness looks really nice too. Do the harness come with an SES light circuit, I heard a rumor that they do not? Just curious. Nice to see the pictures.

If I remember correctly the original harness made by the Fiero Factory didnt have an SES circut. I have Ed's newest harness and I dont remember him saying that it didnt have the SES. Think I will have to call and verify. If it doesnt I need to figure out a way for it to have the light. I do remember Ed saying to diagnose the ECM the ALDL is functional with a Snap On scan tool.

Looks good. I like the one on top as well. Should be interesting to see what we can come up with for a nice free flowing exhaust. I feel the same way as you do, I am not cutting my car to make an engine fit. Losing the lower half of my trunk is NOT an option. Here is what I have to build my exhaust:

SLP Stainless Steel Exhaust Systems:
Are street legal in ALL 50 States.
Offer easy, bolt-on installation.
Offer fuel economy improvement.
Have mandrel bent 409 stainless steel, 3" diameter intermediate pipes and 304 stainless steel high luster tailpipes with round angle-cut ends.
Limited Lifetime Warranty.
Up to 25 additional horsepower and improved 0-60 MPH and 1/4 mile performance

Its made by SLP for the 3rd gen F-body. Obviously we will have to modify it to fit but I dont see a problem with that!

I have the flowmaster 42583/43083 on two of my 4.9 cars without cutting the trunk. They are a very tight fit but they sound great on a V8.

Today we started mocking up the 4.9/4T60e up on the cradle. Everything seems to be spot on with the Fiero Factory's install kit. Garth says if Ed Parks was around he would give him a kiss for building such a nice wiring harness for the swap! Guess he approves of Ed's work!!

Hey BV,

Who made the subframe that is being used in the 68 RS? Is the car being built Pro Street or Drag only? It looks good from the pictures.

Chassis Works built the front suspension. It will be a show/race car. It has a 635cid BB chevy (pictured on the pass side of the car).Right now it has a 10k paint job.

Well here are the newest pics Jesse:

Pass side lower engine mount

pass side rear mount

pass side front mount

trans support mount

serp belt/idler

We needed to modify the front lower engine mount the Fiero Factory supplied. I am thinking that they may have sent a 88 bracket instead of one for the 84-87.
We installed the serp and idler brackets and modified it till all the pulleys lined up near perfect. The cradle seems to be done so I have it here in my garage and I am cleaning and painting it right now. Should look really good. Tomorrow I paln on doing so cleaning detail work to the top half of your motor and swapping the PFI valve cover on.
More later.

Got some work done on my 4.9 swap as well. Since my 88 cradle was at the shop I borrowed Jesse's engine to mock up my mounts.
In the pics below you can see the two areas that need to be trimmed to clear the 4.9/4T60E. I also installed poly bushings into all the 88 rear suspension but silly me didnt think to take any pics. So I will get some after I clean and paint them.

First pic you can see the end of the trans pan is about 1/8 from clearing the pass side of the cradle.

Next the lip of the cradle needs to be trimmed flush then rewelded.

The belt tensionning system is sweat!
Can you provide some details on the alternator bracket, and the pullys/brackets used?
Is part of that an Ed Parks creation, or is it all off the shelf?

Hey I bought some tips. They will be shipped tomorrow 2-3 days

E-mail from Brain

Hey,

How soon do you need the hubs? I will call/look around tomorrow and see if I can find a pair of used rotors, then it would only take me a couple of hours to machine them. Shipping would take 2 days, I use Priority mail. We can work out the payment details when/if I can find a pair of rotors.

Brian

Howd it go today?

Out of curosity, If a person was going to do a 4.9 swap, is there anyone that will sell an 84-87 cradle with all the mounts and welding already done for the 4.9 to just bolt up to? I am considering it if I cannot buy a Fiero with a swap already done. But I have no way of doing alot of welding.

Thanks,
Randy

Thanks,

Getting the welding done, is not as big a deal as you are probably thinking. Once you have the mounts, you can screw them on the cradle, and either take it somewhere to get welded, or have an onsite welder come and do it.
I took it somewhere, after I fabbed my own mounts. I had them weld my mount together, and weld the angle iron to the cradle.

Hey here are the latest Simulator pics. I got some good competition on Easter playing Nascar 2003. But would you believe who always came out on top, you guessed it!! Kieth was pushing me hard around the tracks(Martinsville, Richmond, Daytona) that we raced all day. He finished right there on my bumber every time but just couldn't get around me. A couple of times I would back off and let him by to see if I could pass him. It would take me awhile, working him hard through the turns but I would finally get him little loose and up out of the groove and around I would go. The Racer JT #111 Dodge just kept finding Victory Lane.

This is an early one with the Fiero GT seats

Oh yeah! I bought my car from Ed and plan on doing the 4.9 swap as soon as my 2.8 dies. It runs really good so that may be a while!

I had wondered if that wiring harness was as good as Ed said. As usual, it looks like Ed is correct. Lookin Good!

How much would you charge to make someone the custom "Y" exhaust pipe to hook up to the stock GT exhaust from the stock 4.9 Deville manifolds.
