sense the break in i have been planning my stereo rebuild. the last one just had a store bought truck sub box behind the passenger seat. this made it a little obvious that there was a sub there. this time i want to go stealth. the plan is to do the subs behind the seat in custom boxes that when done will perfectly blend in to the carpet and fire wall to look totally stock to all but the fiero conscious. such is the plan, and the build will be here when started. but i have a number of questions before i start cutting.

does anyone have a diagram or really good pic of where to cut and not to cut?

and I'm thinking of going with a 12" behind one seat and a 10" behind the other. is there any problem with doing this? i notice that most do 2 10's or 2 12's but not both, why? also would it be a bad idea to port the boxes? or connect them in some fashion?

i know, stupid questions, but my mind is racing right now, engineering all sorts of crazy crap. i do that, and am thinking of going to engineering school.

Gokart Mozart posted some good threads... You will notice that the holes in the firewall don't free up a lot more volume. Mainly just make room for the magnet on the speakers.

If I were to do it I would pay a little more for thinner speakers that don't require cutting the firewall, and I would do it only on the passenger side as I need every inch of legroom on the driver's side.

well, ive tried 8's 10's 12's even had 16, 6.5" woofers in one fiero, if you really want good clean sound, 4 8" woofers is the way to go, 2 behind each seat, currently i have 2 10" diamond audio CM3 10's and they are way too deep of a subwoofer, i had to build the box out too far for my taste to make them fit, ive got 4 clarion 8's that will be going into my next project.

Try the new Diamond DS3 series of subs, they are a nice shallow mount with a slightly smaller magnet

I'm using their 12"s

You don't really want to use different sized subs unless their doing different freqencies (say the 12" as a true sub and an 8" as a midbass), ported or sealed comes down to what the particular sub calls for, some will say they can do both but in most cases one or the other will sound better.

Truthfully, you don't really have enough room behind your seat to do ported boxes. If you look at the specs of your subs, you'll see that they require a certain amount of volume to perform at their best. Usually, a ported box is twice that of a sealed box. However, for boomy bass, you want ported boxes; and for tight, loud bass, you want sealed boxes.
