First of all, THIS IS NOT AN AD OR SALES PITCH. Second, it's not in the mall because I'm not selling anything. It's just a little compilation of info I'm sharing regarding what might be better air filters, and maybe a good deal on prices.

It started with 865spd's post about CRX and WCF style "fender well" intakes that convinced me to get one. Mine came with a used oil-based filter that (no offense intended) I wouldnt trust to strain tea with. I mean I held it up and could see sunlight through holes in the material.

Then I reaffirmed what I suspected about different oiled and non-oiled air filters in this post and decided to ditch mine soon and STAY AWAY from K&N's as well. I posted asking about filters in this thread where someone suggested Amsoil's new EaA filters. This post also contains the part numbers I found for Amsoil's EaA air filters for universal applications. Check here if you want to replace the oiled filter on your WCF or CRX intake before you ruin your engine.

I then looked them up, and if the tests are trustworthy it means that they flow almost as well as oiled filters but with an even better filtering capacity than "paper" cellulose filters. This is according to graphs at Amsoils EaA website and at this webpage I found via Google. Statistics are always always skewed, altered, stacked or otherwise biased, but these graphs still look pretty good to me. And what little flow rate you lose compared to a K&N is probably less of an impact on performance than the rest of your engine/intake/exhaust, especially with a stock Fiero V6 intake plenum. You could make up for this and more by just using a filter with a larger surface area, if you really wanted to.

I emailed the guy whose part # list I borrowed, and one of the things he said was "I sell all AMSOIL products (synthetic lubricants and premium filters) for dealer cost...typically I can save folks ~25% on their purchases", so I'm putting him in touch with Cliff regarding advertising here. This is NOT an ad telling you to buy from him. If I still had a stock airbox, I'd not bother with it, but personally I'll be buying one of these air filters from him whenever I get around to getting the measurements. Maybe we'll get some good deals on other useful stuff through him.

You don't have to buy from this guy, but please please ditch that K&N

I know several people who have used Amsoil products and swear by them. I'm thinking of switching my 88 GT to Amsoil. I've used Mobil 1 in in since the crate 3.4 was put in. The comments I've heard was that the cars run cooler with Amsoil and real clean engine internals after 100K miles.

You can go on the Amsoil website and sign up to buy Amsoil products directly from them at the dealer cost - for $ 20 a year. You become a preferred customer and as long as you do not resell the products, you can buy what you need. I use only Amsoil in my Fiero, and have stocked up with several cases of 5w-30 and have purchased one of their new 100,000 mile air filters ( alittle pricey) but it requires no oiling and filters better than those K & N filters and all the K & N wannabe filters.
