Hey everyone. Spring has started to hit here in Wisconsin and I've realized...i've done absolutely nothing to the SS all winter...damn it!!! I'm looking at putting in my 10" pioneer sub and alpine amp but my ideas of putting it behind the seat just aren't gonna work. And my back up plan of the passenger foot well isn't too hot either. So i've decided to look at the center console sub boxes and seem to think that is the best way for me to go. I'm having a hard time tracking some down though. The only one I've run across is fiber smith but I'm sure there are others. Where do I find these things and how well is the quality of each. Thanks in advance.

I got bored a couple of weeks ago and mounted an amp behind the passenger seat and made a mock up to mount an 8in sub in the existing console, took about an hour. Sounds okay but I do plan on refining it somewhat now that I see what I have to work with (increase the volume of the enclosure and seal it). Keep in mind this was a quickie just to get an idea of what it might sound like and what kind of clearence I had to work with.
Seems like making a complete center console could be a cheap fun project that really shouldn't be that difficult or time consuming.
My recomendation is to either build your own using the old console (like DRA and quite a few others did) or buy the West Coast Fiero box (upholstered). I'm using the WCF box, and it's a nice fit. I upholstered it myself and learned why they charge as much as they do to do it. I got it done, and it looks nice, but it was quite a learning experience.

Hey.. we got one of them dog things too.. Darker color tho..
Not that its totally related, but ive always wondered what a sub sticking there beside your face would do to ones ears....
It's a very low frequency so it is actually hard to decern where the sound is coming from as opposed to a full range speaker which is actually closer to your ear in the pillar.

I really don't like the looks of the WCF box. I don't like how it just goes right into the shifter surround and makes the center console look even bigger and bulkier. I like the looks of the fibersmith since it is basically stock style with the step-down into the shifter surround. Has anyone used that one? Any pics of a finished one?

The subs mounted on a board in the stock glove box location simply sound terrible. I have never heard one that produced any sort of satisfying bass. Always spongey bottoming out and sucking air whisping.
Thanx for the kudos guys. I'd love to be able to make more, but honestly, I don't have the time to finish my own projects. Check out my build thread for how I did it. It's not that hard. Just lots of sanding. I thought I had more pics, but I can't seem to find them.
i like that. 10 or 8? i have three 12ohm 8's i've been wanting to put in but i decided against the setup i was planning (one in the passenger floor where i have one 8 now, and one in each door. i've been looking at the center console to have them share one box (supposed to be better), but i'm not sure how bulky it might get. i may have to eyeball it again.

I personally don't like the look of an exposed speaker in the console. So when I built my own console subwoofer enclosure, I "stealthed" the speaker. Oh, and there was no fiberglass involved in this project.
Here are some old pics of the ones I used to make way back before the fibreglass ones come on the market. I used to make them in 3 different styles to allow for different cubic air capacities. I think I can honestly say I had the first Fiero with a sub in the centre console. I gave up production on the ones I made when the cheaper fibreglass, squarer looking ones came onto the market.

Same one in a new home.

Remember to consider how much airspace your sub requires when deciding on a box. Some of these smaller, more discreet boxes won't neccesarily work for your application. This said, I have probably one of the biggest and bulkiest center console boxes on here. It still looks good though I think, but I'll probably relocate to behind the seats when I redo my interior. There are pics in my sig.
I'm going with the Pioneer TS-SW2541D shallow mount 10". Its got a mounting depth of 3" and box capacity of .35 - .7 cubic feet. I should have plenty of room in the fibersmith box.

Mine took a couple hours to make but right now i'm just using an 8" sub and amp from a really cheap bass tube so the sound isn't all that impressive. I'm hopeing this year or next year to get a propper sub and amp setup in it.

Oh, okay. You should be fine then. Post pics of your set-up when it's done.

I recently started working on a fiberglass enclosure for mine that will house two 8 inch subs. I originally tried making my own base out of cardboard and fiberglass like RCR did but I found it too difficult to get a good fit. I ended up using a spare center console with all the foam stripped off it. I trimmed it and did a test fit today and i turned out alot better than i expected. So far I only have one or two layers of glass and it's already rock hard. I'll prolly do one or two more before I start shaping it.
I still have some trimming and reshaping to do although. I plan on cutting out the folds in the fiberglass next to the bottom sub location. You can see in the pic I already started to cut it out. Unfortunatly I don't have a working dremel right now and it's really a pain in the ass to cut through with a box cutter haha.

Hey I was checking out this forum for the first time this weekend looking for something similar to this. I came across something myself you guys may be interested in?

Adorable dog Really matches your interior.
I really love them speakers/automatic alarm systems. Depending on the model they come in a high pitch ring, downright to very deep bassy models. Thought the bass models tend to take up a lot of room in a Fiero. Some of them it's strongly recommended to have "drool control" installed, as they tend to leave a residue on the seats and console.

Haha!
Thanks, that is my Mom's dog, she was just outside helping me out for a while. I drove her (in the Fiero )between my sister's and my mom's one afternoon (sis was watching her for mom while she was on vacation) and I got a lot of funny looks, but it was cute. She's a complete terror though, really funny about people in the house and a just in general "nervous."
Some of these creations shown here make me want to try my hand at fiberglass, they're just gorgeous!

I have 2 a dual 8 box in my center console but my paycheck heard a rumor I was maybe making the first fiero with 18 speakers complete with a dual 10 fiberglass boxand went on strike, so its true because I just bought all the speakers, amps, and all the little bells and whistles.
