vinyl=leatherette=pleather=naugahyde=......well, you get the idea!

I suppose there are differing levels of quality that could be associated with each variation......maybe higher quality and nice grains make it look more like leather than some other typres, I have no idea. Generally speaking though, all are one in the same.

FWIW... There's an upholstery shop near me who did my sunvisors.
He mentioned doing seats in imitation leather, as opposed to real leather.
He said the imitation stuff would be much less expensive, and would be twice as durable as leather.
I looked at his samples. They certainly felt real.
Technology marches on...

For The Record- Leather-ette:
(I posted the definition from the dictionary)
Leather-ette is a descriptive word, attributive, describing the attributes of said product:
“Leather-ette bound books, camera bags, and car seat coverings are good examples of leatherette."
To say this seat upholstery is vinyl is as incorrect as saying a car is steel.
Vinyl is short for ‘poly-vinyl-chlorinate-blah-blah-blah’.
The floating rafts in my pool are “vinyl”.
The liner of the pool is “vinyl”.
The straps of the chairs by the pool are “vinyl”.
However: None of these 3 are “Leather-ette”.

What color combinations do these come in?

(I'll probably get the real leather ones for my car, but these will work for the DD)

I picked up the Leather-ette covers today. I also own the Leather seat covers, believe me you will not be disapointed in this product. You would really have to know your stuff to tell the difference!
Thanks Mr Mike

The imitation stuff would also be much lower maintenance, and much less prone to drying/cracking.

I believe Audi used leatherette in a bunch of their cars. I also had a set of leathette racing seats in my old car for 5 years off and on, they held up great, easy to maintain Now I just have to find a subtle way to hint to my wife and/or parents that I want a set for my birthday

I will have the leather-ette and cloth colors posted soon, in general all the usual leather colors will be available.
I've been called out of town until Friday 4-27, and will be happy to answer all your questions when I return.

Hello Fiero owners,
I had hoped to have a new Fiero upholstery page posted this Sunday afternoon, but a server upgrade has blocked me from editing my own website.
The ‘New Way’ is: Chose leather bolsters, or leather-ette bolsters, or velour bolsters / Chose leather inserts, or leather-ette inserts, or velour inserts.
(it did not take long for people to ask for a choice of combinations)
Then chose options like: logos or speaker holes or seat belt slots or color welts.
In the mean time please feel free to call me at 941-922-5070 or email me at mrmike@mrmikes.com
Thank you for your continued support,
MrMike

did I hear someone mention that Mr. mike is doing cloth replacement seats as well? I'm not a big fan of leather anymore as I tend to slide around on it more than I like.

Noooo, that's a fart vent.

87Gt's and above have a methane detector in the drivers seat that activates a fan and ducts the offending emission into the intake for an added boost. Perferated center seat section allows this function to work correctly without the cloth that allows the fart to get to the vent intake.

Without it the fart would be wasted venting down your pant leg and not give you a 3-7hp boost.

Yes, Cloth will be available; half of the samples have arrived for scanning & posting. This is automotive grade UV protected polyester. The first cloth customer asked me to ‘dust’ it with Scotch Guard before sewing on the leather wings.
If you missed it above:
The ‘New Way’ is: Chose leather bolsters, or leather-ette bolsters, or velour bolsters - then - Chose leather inserts, or leather-ette inserts, or velour inserts.
In other words: You can order all leather, all leather-ette, all velour, or combinations.
There will be some limitations, such as no speaker holes punched in velour headrests.

Thank you James Bond 007 for posting the picture, however all Fiero seats are the same* under the upholstery and any style will fit any seat.
*Lumbar seats are slightly different, and 84 & 85 have headrest speakers.

Perforated leather or leather-ette:
I choose not to use perforated, it allows dirt and liquids into the foam of the seat where it’s impossible to clean it out.
Embossed leather-ette will be available, just as embossed leathers currently are.
Embossing presses a pattern into the materials, it does not puncture (perforate) the material.

Thank you,
MrMike

No perforations, eh? I guess the fart vent is out; I'll have to make up the HP difference with more stickers...
All kidding aside, I'm starting a fund to save money for some leatherette seat covers with grey or white piping, charcoal or silver bolsters, and light grey or white inserts, to go with my paint scheme. Hmmmmm...gonna have to see if I can photoshop a line drawing of some seats so I can play with color combinations.

Austrian Import,
Thank you for using the word 'style'.
The seats themselves are all the same underneath, it is the styling of the upholstery that is the difference.
GT style has a strap across the backrest, just below the logo panel.

Okay, makes sense. I was afraid that GT's have different seats. Thanks for clarifying that.
