Hoping to start this thread to get more people involved, basicly a bunch of us are getting together to help bobadoofunk get his car running on the 30th of june, I have a good running engine I just pulled and bobadoofunk has a cherry picker he is borrowing from Formula and we are going to make a saturday of it, the more people that can come and help the better! heres a link to the Black Betty Build thread: https://www.fiero.nl/forum/F.../HTML/061374-12.html Page 12 https://www.fiero.nl/forum/F.../HTML/061374-13.html Page 13
heres pics removing the engine from my car sitting at my parents house (the donor engine)
Who's that? oh, my son.... he's taking the trans bracket bolts off the getrag
using my dads jack, we jacked up the car to allow the cherry pickers legs to go under the cradle.
heres my help posing for the camera as the entire assembly dangles.
Heres Zachary helping me remove parts that arent needed (18mm trans to engine bolt)
once the trans is removed, now for the flywheel & clutch:

Wish I could go, wish I could go, wish I could go. Had my plane ticket, hotel, and rental car all set-up (I would have been there for a week, early vacation) but as always, my plans change Going to Atlanta for Jaguar school I think my boss does this on purpose sometimes.

While you and I may think engine removal by dropping the cradle is the way, there is a diehard contingent out there that insists on pulling engines out the top. I've seen a top engine install done on a 2.8L but I would never attempt it as the job is much easier by dropping the cradle. I believe that it's safe to say that Bobadoo won't be installing his 4.9L from the top. I don't even see how an engine swap could be done from the top.

normally I do the cradle drop, but in this instance I needed to be able to move the car out of the driveway again (parents house) and into its parking spot, with wheels and suspension still in place(cuz I stole the cherry picker again from my dad! ) its also MUCH easier to pull a 4/5 speed out the top than I would imagine a auto would be.
bump to the top, would love to have more people helping this project. the MORE the merrier, and if bobadoofunk cant fund more mt dew for a huge crowd i'll buy it.
btw who wants to do the timing once we get it in? i'm pretty crappy at that plus I dont have a timing light to bring (I used to borrow dads when needed)
I would be interested in meeting up with you guys. Let's see.....I could........ummmm........well........... I could probably hold the beers for everyone doing the work. hahahaha

Bump, Roll call whose going? remember, jerry needs to stock up on Mt Dew, we dont want him to be understocked!
Hmmm.....I don't have anything scheduled Saturday (though my GT is in primer now). Would you be going out the PA turnpike and go past the Harrisburg exit (247)? Would you have extra room in your vehicle? Just thinking at this point

Looks like I'm not going to make it! Sorry Jerry! I hit a deer along 78 on the way out to you (luckily not too far from home) and completely fubarred my S-10. Mostly just fender/grille/radiator/fan damage, but I will need to fix it this weekend (get it road-worthy anyway) so I can work on Monday.

Lunch time right now, jerry's making something. We swapped parts from his engine to mine, decided to use the tranny I brought (got it from kick hill and didnt need it since I got the 3800 stuff) swapped over the tranny stuff, and got most of the engine/trans together and a few things like the Y pipe to connect and then its onto the cradle, we started this morning around 7am and we're hoping to start it tonight.

You guys ROCK! How many other car enthusiasts would do something like this to help somebody out? I'd wager not many.
Between my father and I, we've owned lots of old cars and taken them on various road trips. Fieros and Corvairs stand out as having the owners most willing to help anyone at anytime - even if they've never met you.
Can't wait to see Black Betty born again!!
Ride Pontiac!
Oh, and don't forget to use plenty of PB Blaster..... to, well, you know..
