As most all ready know, but it's time to get an official thread going. www.fieros.ca
SOFA (Southern Ontario Fiero Association) is extending an invitation to all fiero owners and enthusiasts to their 3rd Annual fiero show. We are having the usual pre registration online again, http://www.fieros.ca/show/default.htm which instead of a free pre register we are asking for payment which includes this years T shirt of your size. If you pay at the show the day of the show there may still be a few T shirts but are an additional cost. Now that the pre register and money info is done lets get on to another paragraph.
As usual Brian Finch Pontiac Buick GMC, has opened up a portion of their car lot for us to move in. Lots of parking along with some grass and trees to sit under. This show will be rain or shine....the trophies will be handed out But don't worry we have planned for clear skies and a nice breeze.
This year we are inviting any classic or specialty Pontiac or Buick (since it's held at a Pontiac Buick dealership ) to join in but they will only be a show and shine (trophies are for Fieros). If you are a fiero owner and still want to bring a classic or specialty car other than a Pontiac or Buick....Not a problem, feel free to. And there is no cost to be part of the show and shine for non-Fieros.
So the days starts off a 9 AM Saturday Aug 11th, you can start or finish your prep or just visit with others, Judging starts at 11 am and goes until 1 pm. Then the trophies and ceremony at 3 pm. There will be a bbq on site with proceeds going to a local Boy Scout troop.
Supper is walking distance away at Tiger Jacks (amazing wings and such there) starting at approx 4pm. After dinner we are planning to head off to Eastpark, including Mini-Golf, Go-Karts, Batting Cages the all new Wally World Water Park which consists of 7 waterslides, and the best Splashpad in the city, or indoors at Intencity for Rock Climbing, Bumper Cars, Jungle Gym & Video Games, as well as the famous Intake Grill for refreshments. www.eastparkgolf.com
So it is a fun filled day. And more info and discounted rates on hotels as well as all day passes to Eastpark (incase you don't want to torcher you spouses and kids with the car show)
Definitely a don't want to miss event for us fiero folks. Remember London Ontario is located 45 min from Sarnia/Port Huron MI border and 2 hrs from Windor/Detroit border. and 2 1/2 hrs from Niagara falls/Buffalo border. All you need is photo ID such as a drivers license to cross over....so no worries.
Pete
A pic of last year(s) to wet your appetite.

hey pete! well ive got that weekend booked off already, and im pretty sure that pic is from 2 years ago, lol....but it was still FUN! are you guys planning a trip to the st. thomas speedway again on the sunday? and how much is the registration fee?
We switched to the east side of the lot last year, and decided the west side has more space and more shade, therefore the pic from 2 years ago, which is the site we'll be using.
The website registration needs to be updated with the current info, but that will be done soon. You can still register. We'll be using Paypal for registration fees. The info will be on the site soon, so if you can, please hold off registering until the weekend.

May want to double check that. My understanding was that as of January 2007 you need a full passport to get back into the US. I am sure the friendly Canadians will let us in with just an ID, but getting back into the US is a little more difficult. And believe me, trying to get deported doesn't work...it is harder than it sounds.

Well, my wife is a Passport Canada examiner and I have friends who cross the border regularly. The passport requirement for land entry isn't in effect. Consider it double checked.

i shall be there for sure! the whole weekend no less... thanks for putting this great show on for us for a third time... I can't wait... its my weekend off anyway so i don't even have to ruffle any managment feathers at work!
Just a quick note about registration arrangements and registration costs. ( the website will hopefully be totally updated this weekend)
We are going to be having folks pay the registration fee at the time of registering for a couple of reasons. First off, that is alot of cash to handle on the event day. Second, the startup cost of the show is very substantial to arrange for great trophies and prizes. The T-shirt art is another up front cost. Rather than have one person take on all the up front costs, (we aren't rich) it is our belief after discussing it, that it is better for everybody to share the cost of our show up front. It is just more fair. Because the costs are fixed and there is no profit involved, there are no refunds available either. We'll have the show rain or shine. We discussed using a rain date, but this is not fair to the car dealership which will have to move over 100 cars to make room for us. Besides, we've never been rained out, and some folks have to make special arrangements to get off work.
We are using Paypal because most of us have a Paypal account which is a good record of payment. I will be sending a separate confirmation by email for each registration and payment. This makes everything transparent and solid. I can be PM'd or Emailed for particulars on cheques or cash for those without Paypal. Bear in mind that I am a retired fraud investigator so I am pretty careful about other peoples' money. Any potential surplus (there normally isn't any) will go to the Boy Scouts who are putting on the burgers for us.
FYI, Pete has assigned me to be in charge of the arrangements so if there are any issues, problems, or questions you can either PM me or Email me. If you PM Pete, he'll just refer it to me.
On another note, some of us have other vehicles. We had a Delorean last year for instance. So we decided if we have specialty/collector vehicles we also want to bring along, we should do that. So if you have a dune buggy, motorcycle or whatever in addition to your Fiero, which you'd like to show and you can bring it, you are welcome to do so. We'll have the space.
The show keeps getting bigger, and we are trying to make it a really enjoyable day. This is a day for Fiero owners to get together and enjoy our obsession and have a blast.
See you there,
Arn

Well said. And remember, if you have another car, bike, or anything of special intrest to you and others then bring it along, it will only add to "your" show that day.
I'd love to be there this year but I've got a wedding that day. It's in St. Thomas so atleast I'll be able to pass by for a bit and check out the show. Already looking forward to next year!

Plans, sponsors, prizes, trophies, give aways and pre-registraions all coming along well! Thanks to all that is making this show as great as we all can.
Only a few weekends away now!
Remember if you can not pay during pre registration at least fill one in on line ( www.fieros.ca ) so we can better understand the number of cars we will see that day. The more info we have the better we can plan for you, ehh.
Good point and thanks PBJ. I think there are about 15 cars who we expect to be attending who have not registered yet.
Registring on line helps alot. We have goody bags for registrants including fresh Fiero Store catalogues, performance info and catalogues, local guide books, coupons, maps, and for those who ordered them, the new and improved T's.
We also want to have lots of prizes and we need to know how many people so that we know how much to spend. We don't want leftover stock we can't use, (our loss) or not enough stock to treat everyone fairly. We already have, amongst other prizes, $25 Fiero Store coupons, Yat Ming car(s), and other good stuff.
So, please please register ahead if you are coming and help us show you the best time yet.
Thanks,
Arn

We didn't have enough people actually booking to get a group rate. Last year we had a block of 10 rooms and most were unused. The group rate is no better than your CAA rate anyway.
At most shows including SOFA Annual meets, there are trophies for the best this, the best that and sometimes hard luck one. The regular Joe with a beater does not have a chance for a prize unless it's a door prize. I have an idea. I like to donate a set of upper frame rails as a prize to the car with the worst upper frame rails. The car must be driven to the show and registered. I would like to judge these cars, along with an associate for a second opinion. You see, I like to see beaters and cars that need help. Sometimes I think the owners are intimidated by so many good looking cars and/or their peers. They forget we all (almost all) started with one that needs lots of work. I know it's kinda late, but hey gotta start somewhere. The event can be scheduled for a designated time to suit the program. The only issue that's bothering me with the rails is, I hope the winner uses them and not sell them or shelf them cuz he has no means of doing the fix, it is a lot of work. I guess we can't control that. If there is no winner, there's next year. So, any candidates?? Also thought we could hold some kind of a clinic on something simple that the novice can tackle, like the one I held at my place to replace headlight motors. This type of involvement usually motivates some people. Any input is welcomed.
We've hesitated to have a "beater" award, although we usually have a "hard luck" award.
Having a set of your custom rails is a real bonus for somebody. And, the show isn't about who has the best car, it is about enjoying our cars together.
I remember in my motorcycle days there was a Suzuki motorcycle that showed up at bike shows. It was called the "Ratzuki" Basically the owner just sprayed clear coat over anything that landed on the bike including bird droppings. He duck taped the seat, and when the crankcase had a problem, he wrapped wire around it and siliconed it.
Point being that Ratzuki was a real popular addition to shows.
So, if your Fiero is a work in progress, bring it along because we've all had our Fieros "in progress" from time to time and discussing the work we are doing on the cars is part of the fun.
Thanks for setting this up Rubyred
Arn
Edit, BTW we have more than 30 cars pre-registered this year which was more than last year.
