We started with a 85se 2.8/th125 Our first mod was to replace the hardtop roof with a sunroof. Then we replaced the drivetrain with a 4.9/4t60e Next Miss Debbie installed Daytona Dash burlwood overlays. A Grant wooden steering wheel was fitted.
Our latest projects will include changing out the front and rear fascias for GT style. Installing Tom's slimline non pop up headlights. Removing the luggage rack and replacing with a Fiero Spoiler. Replacing the quarter panels with side scoops from Driven Visions. And today I started the hood venting using vents from a Grand Am

More progress today I wire wheeled the front bumper and rusty metal primed while Miss Debbie removed the luggage rack. Then we worked together on some fiberglass. The holes were dimpled out using a dremel sanding drum. Some fiberglass resin was painted in, a nickle sized fiberglass cloth placed in the wet resin and then more resin dropped on--then Miss Debbie placed wax paper over each repair and spatula down flat.

Thanks for the step by step on this one... It's on my list of things to do for my 84. One question, did you sand down into the SMC on the decklid creating an actual dimple? It's hard to tell from the pics.

Yes, I showed her to use the dremel to sand a quarter sized dimple around each hole so the resin will bond better. more progress and our friend Paulcal came and di the other side scoop.

You make it sound so easy. Just pop one engine out... pop in a 4.9... sure thing. I wish you were my neighbor! Btw, the house two doors down from me is for sale, and it has a pool. Probably going for around $125,000.

Well, I have to say that it was this forum that inspired me. I studied for quite some time-----then I went to the U Pull It and found the drivetrain I wanted. After pulling it by myself----first time ever--I felt more confident. But I did have help on my engine swap. I had the physical help of Kento and 86fieroEarl. I purchased Ed Parks wiring harness and had Rockcrawl do my chip. I had quite a few hurdles to cross and the forum was there every step of the way.
We have had this car for about 5 years now-----so you can see that sometimes progress is slow. I bought my IMSA already built because I appreciate more now the time that goes in.

Not as much progress today as we slept in and went to Pep Boys for more supplies. We bought more sanding supplies, tape, a 10' x 20' portable carport and enough plastic sheeting and duct tape to turn it into a spray booth. I worked on sanding the fiberglass plugs on the decklid while Miss Debbie worked on prepping her hood. Then she used spraybomb sandable primer. It's coming along slowly. Miss Debbie says painting is like sex--90% prep work and 10 seconds of spray-----rwhoooooooops

Well, I had been looking at doing the rustoleum style roller paint for a while but i am not convinced that the durability would be there so I will pick up everything today from finish masters to do a basecoat clearcoat urethane.

ok you spent $$$$ what have you done with the crap you bought?????
Be patient Kento--- The bodywork has to be done before I can paint it. I paid $200 for the paint supplies pictured above but I also bought a portable carport that I will close in with plastic for a spraybooth of sorts. I still have to attatch the GT fascias/figure out how to drill for the spoiler/ put up the carport-booth-cover everything that doesn't need painted etc

keep up the good work jeff, No more ugly bumper pad fiero body style The areo notchback is the sexiest style fiero they made. Im in the process of doing a rodney 1 inch lowing job on my fiero, That will make my fiero have a 2 1/2 inch drop, Im also converting my carpet inside my fiero to black, Adding stainless steel brake lines and cleaning her up for daytona, I hope to see you guys there. Mapquest says it take 1hour to get to daytona from orlando, My goal is to make it in 45mins

This morning I erected the frame and top of our temporary spraybooth. Buckets filled with concrete will keep it grounded. Goal is to paint the 4.9 car before Daytona

Eventually--yes, but I will not have time to do all the mods to the trailer right now before Daytona. I have to remove the luggage rack/ install side scoops, a spoiler, and do some finish work before the trailer can be painted.

In my opinion, the bumper pad nose is the only one that looks correct on a Fiero. I put one on my 86 GT and threw away the GT snowplow.
I tend to agree with Roger, I like the front bumper pad look, too. I'm priming my Formula parts (all off the car) and wouldn't go so far as to change them out tho. Damn it's a lot of work to get a car ready to paint!

I'm having a rough morning with this project. Once I got the third side on the tent it began to breath--------- The wind kicked up and try as I might I was unable to hold things down even with three 20"x20" furnace filters mounted and vented in the plastic ----the wind was determined to rip eveything apart. I guess I'll take a break for a while and try later------you can't beat the wind

tie or duct tape some long pieces of pipe or 4x4 fence posts to the bottom of the sides to weigh it down. Should be fine unless its really windy. If it is, just hang on for a calmer day.

Baby steps in a big project - last evening I moved the car to the tent area and removed the battery. Then I started the slow tedious process of taping and papering. The wind has calmed down this morning so I am hoping it cooperates with me today. I still have quite a bit to cover. I have to leave the doors partially open to shoot the jams so I have to seal off the interior.

My hat is off to the guys who make their living at this. I knelt down so long doing this door opening that both my feet and one of my legs went to sleep and it took quite a struggle to get myself back up and able to walk again.

Just one of the reasons I decided to do a 'panel off' paint job on my Formula. No masking! (and I can paint behind panels, too.) I really hate masking cars--one of my ideas of hell--an eternity of masking cars for painting.
Are you going to prime? I decided to prime partly because it exposes pits and defects in the panels, but mostly because I'm using parts from about 4 different cars and a nice even white prime color will make the red basecoat go on better.
