So I'm waiting at a stop light for it to turn green. It finally does, and I start out...then something hits me from the side. Turns out an eighteen wheeler hit the front of my car and ran OVER it after running the red light. The hospital said I was lucky to get off with bruises and cuts and a broken collarbone. Pictures to follow later.
The REALLY pathetic part about this is that he tried to run after the fact. In an eighteen wheeler. With my hood still in his grille. Bozo. Three inches difference and I would have been dead. The steering column shattered, and the gauge cluster and steering wheel ended up in the center of the car. All things considered, I'm rather heartbroken about the car, but happy I'm alive, and even more happy the guy was caught AND has insurance.
Anyway, not sure I'm going to get another Fiero right now...maybe after I get a house...
Apologies for any mistakes in my correspondence; I'm typing one-handed.

You certainly are lucky to be alive. Make sure you don't sign your rights away to the truck driver's insurance company, have a lawyer review anything they try to get you to sign. You could get complications from this accident many years down the road.

Your narrative is nothing compared to the pictures. Wow! You walked away from that? It's never a happy occasion to see a Fiero leave the world, but at least yours did so with a flourish, not mouldering away in a field. You have quite a story to tell.
.... So, your rear suspension should still be okay, and are those seats still in good shape?

OMG. Those pics are incredible. Im so sorry for you, but am glad you are ok. Hope you have a fast recovery. On a lighter note, Its too bad that he crushed your donut engine, those are getting harder to find. (sry, couldnt resist). Seriously though, it good to hear you are fine.

I'm glad that you're okay. (Well... relatively, anyway.) You are lucky.
Interesting that he tried to run. Wonder if he's ever done that before.
I'd be getting a lawyer. Screw him long, hard and deep. Bastages. (My apologies to all, for the choice of words. There are none other that are any more appropriate.)
I am very sorry about what happened, good thing is that you are alive. I wish you don't have any serious injuries and that all is forgotten and fixed. Hopefully he gets what he deserves, no more no less... Its saddening when one of our cars goes away like this, hopefully the salvation of the car will be properly done by parting the car... Dibs on the 1/4 window logos and the window levers?

Wow. Just amazing how much these little cars can take and keep their drivers safe. Glad we got a chance to hear from you again. It could have very easily not been the case. Its pics like those that make me happy that I drive a fiero. I wish you the best of health and a quick recovery.

Wow, you are so lucky to be alive.
Just think if you had started across the intersection a millisecond earlier, or had stepped on the gas pedal a little bit harder. On second thought, don't think about it!

1. Yes, a witness to the incident followed the guy and called the police on a cellphone. I wish I had his information so I could treat him to dinner or something. 2. Felony hit and run, with injuries. Means he loses all chances of being a trucker ever again. Even for the postal service. 3. The damage to the side and hinge pin was so great on the driver's side door they pretty much heaved and pulled the door right off the hinge. 4. I'm glad I didn't get a broken leg either, although my feet were wedged in there good. They got me out by sacrificing one of my shoes. About another 1/2 cm and I probably would have lost all the toes on my left foot. The bruises and cuts I have will last for weeks, and I'll have some pretty interesting scars. The real things that saved me were the Fiero's general construction, the bucket seats, and my seatbelt (I'll take the broken collarbone over a broken head any day). 5. I don't think they had to cut me out of the car...but then again, I wasn't exactly lucid at the time. When I looked at the car later it didn't seem like there were any torch or cut marks, and the metal is pretty pretzel shaped so I don't think they used the jaws of life.

Dam Austin drivers!! ( although alot are from Cali.) Yeah a semi hit me and my truck about 4 months ago. nothing that bad! Glad you are ok. I think I saw your car @ the 620/ I 35 parking lot car gathering one day...nice(was)
1. Mstangsbware has already laid a claim to the whole kit if the insurance people let me keep it, and I'm inclined to let him have it since he was one of the original owners of the car 2. The seats I swapped in myself from my 86 GT conversion...I love those seats, so comfortable...may make chairs out of them. Who knows. 3. As for the rest, we shall see. I doubt that even if Mstangsbware gets the car that he will need all the parts. 4. Lay off! ^_^
