I wasn’t completely sure this deal would happen, after first contacting the owner 7 weeks ago. But it did.
I originally was interested in this car as a possible donor for an econo transmission, but it has the 4.10 so I no longer had a use for it. But after speaking to the owner about the history of the car I just couldn’t let it fall in to the wrong hands just to have it destroyed. I don’t want the car. I don’t need the car. And if it had an econo trans it would already be in pieces.
I will repair this car to the best of my abilities and then resell for only the money I have invested in it. My labor will be completely free. One hitch, I will only sell it to an enthusiast.
I understand that the money I’ll have tied up in it would be better spent on credit card bills racking up interest. At least I’ve promised myself I wont push a paying customers car out of the garage to work on it, so it may be a slow process. But this car will be on the road again, driven by someone that will enjoy it.
And of course, I cant have a built thread without pics…

i had a little while away from a customers car last night and found the fuel pump not running. so i pulled the tank but even if the pump did come on, the rubber hose was completely gone between the pump and the sending unit.

Dang!!! I've never seen a locked up release bearing! Do you mean your clutch actuating arm moves, but the clutch doesn't release?? Did the car sit undriven for a long time?? It might be the clutch disk is stuck to the flywheel. Several years ago I had a similar problem with a '63 MGB. I put the rear on jack stands, put the car in 4th gear, and started the engine. With the rear wheels spinning and the clutch pedal on the floor, I stomped the brakes & popped the clutch! The disc popped loose, and I drove it two more years.

i've seen quite a few locked up throw out bearings. unfortunatly they dont just go out themselves. they take the release fork with them.
and i've un'stuck clutches before, but i normally start it in first on the ground and hold the clutch in as much as i can without bending the push rod on the petal and keep gassing it and then brakeing back and forth, it usually only takes about 60 seconds of that.

So tell us more abou the car and history? Curious minds want to know....
the guy bought this car new in 84, around 80,000 miles it got a new engine and clutch. and it looks like he went through 3 sets of tires. but unfortunately even though the release bearing is fairly new, it has gone Kaboom! and probably took the clutch fork out with it.
it's going to be a few weeks before i get to do anything more to it. i've got 3 people waiting for me to work on their cars.
something i can do in the meantime is it needs a head light motor on the drivers side. that's something i can do in an hour or so. i want to keep making progress with it, even if it is only baby steps.

GOD. it's been 2 months and i haven't touched it except for moving it around playing musical-cars. of course the cluch doesn't work so i have to start it in gear.
i hate the holidays. what a waist of time.
i'm drilling out 4 exhaust manifold studs on a V6 right now, so no updates to be expected for a while.

Very nice. I don't see how people can all hate the 84's so much. Many wouldn't wipe their nether regions with one. But they were the first year. How many collectors of other cars would murder to have a first year? It saddens me to see how little people will do to keep an '84 in decent condition, much less restore one. Maybe that will lead to them actually becoming somewhat hard to find and therefore desirable?
Anyway, way to go! I'll be following this one.

I was skeptical of 84's after driving only an 88GT and coupe. But when I got my 84 I loved it. I loved the Duke over the 4tech and the 4spd was nice in North Carolina's highways where in a 5spd I would be going between 4th and 5th. I prefer notchbacks and having a sunroof with it was awesome. (the coupe is a hardtop) I got used to the bumperpad fascias and found some character behind them. I hope my sister likes that car as much as I did. It's going to be her first car when she learns to use the stick. ...I wonder when she will get a forum name?

Got some good calipers off of Brian, he is a good seller who accuratly describes exactly what you are getting and at a reasonable price.

i've got the clutch fork in. a NEW clutch. both tranny mounts are NEW. filled the tranny with syncromesh. NEW rear brakes, (not sure if the calipers are going to release yet)
so far the only thing i've had to buy is the clutch fork.

of course things are not going as planned with my 84 project car. the left rear caliper is suspect, and the right rear’s piston will not turn back in. it just “clicks” if I try to rotate it in, but if I try to rotate it out it will come out. I try to rotate it back in and it goes back a bit and then starts “clicking” again.
But I have to pull it out so I can work on a customers cars again. I haven’t made any outside money in almost 2 weeks (except for a set of headlight motors online)
But the big hump is passed. I got the clutch fork in and the clutch seems to work correctly.
