Here goes the story, 2 sundays ago I pushed my Fiero in the garage, didnt want to start it because theres a tranny line leak, 2 days later im working and my groin is killing me, feels like a big bruise but no bump that I can feel, figure its a Hernia... felt something not hurting, but bothersome for the month before that.... go figure I "Finished" it off at home and not on the job, so no workers comp. Tell the boss the next morning (wed) that I believe I have a hernia, occured off the job... he cant cover me til monday... so wed/thur/fri i'm working with a hernia... suffering (if It happened on job I would have been to the doctors first thing wed morning) anyway, monday morning I went to the doctors, yes I have a small hernia on my right side right at the joint to my groin/leg, Today, Tuesday I went to the surgeon and he located it exactly, when he pushed on it from underneath it hurt like a mofo, he discribed what exactly is needed to be done, etc.. as I need to get back to work ASAP, its scheduled on Sept 4th (doctor is on vac next week ) so, 2 more weeks until surgery, then a week of total boredom letting the healing begin, then I can do minimal things until I can return to work 6 weeks after Surgery. Now, to make this even more Fiero related, I have been doing some Fiero related things that dont hurt me in the groin region, and when I need something done, I ask my wife for help.

8/19/08 - This evening I began working on my T-Top headliner, I have a Full/non-sunroof headliner I bought from Wiccantoy years ago, and some really good front/rear parts from a sunroof one. I began by mounting the headliner backing board and drawing with a sharpe marker, the opening in the "T" Part just like jscott1(Major Props to him and his T-Top Thread) - https://www.fiero.nl/forum/A...0710-1-029407-2.html did:
(These Pics are borrowed from his thread)

I removed the headliner backing board from the car, cut the marked portion out, and then began to remove the old headliner material. Some of the backing was unusable so using the parts I had from the sunroof part I cut and matched parts together. I began Fiberglassing the board together using a fiberglass woven fabric this evening, and will continue it tomorrow morning, posting some pics of the progress.

umm dont you work for ups or something, my question to you is why not lie? If you were having to work with the hernia anyhow which was continuing to cause you pain why not just say it happened at work? Just my opinion.

thats what all my co-workers said, wtf was I thinking. - Honesty.... the area was probably strained during work, and pushing my car in the garage on my own time was the final "Kick" in the groin that made it rip, If I felt something happen at work, I would have reported it as work related... I blame my Fiero

lol i wouldve let honesty go out the window at that point but at least you have sometime to work on the little things on your car. I read most of your 3800sc swap when i thought thats what i was going to do and you have a pretty nice car there.

Pics of the Fiberglass headliner I am building for the T-Top. - Standing up is much much less painful than sitting, or bending over. Glad I built the workbench

Kudos to you for not lying and saying you got hurt at work!!
I'm sure your job doesn't help matters and it played a contributing part in it all though.

Hope you get better soon!!
Enjoy your time off!!

todays "Standing" jobs constisted of more headliner board work, hey... i'm not an expert fiberglasser
its getting there, slowly! and another job I have been putting off for at least 2 years, fixing the 7" wing stands that nuts became loose inside the stands and the fiberglass became loose also and broke, I had bought new fasteners that would solve the problems but never the time to work on it.

I thought most Fiero related things inflicted pain concentrated in the posterior... are you saying dealing with your Fiero is oftentimes more like a kick in the stones?

Sorry, not trying to make light of your pain and misfortune or your Fiero work, but I did laugh when I read that...

And I, too, congratulate you on your integrity. It's hard to be honest when being dishonest can be *so* easily rationalized.

If you didn't do it at work then I'm happy you reported that way because to many people abuse the system.
It does sound like you had the injury befoe hand though so you may want to rethink that.

Thanks guys, most of my Fiero stuff is already bought, sitting in boxes waiting for install or altercation, so I got kicked in the stones and ass before

no pics today, I had to trim some of the headliner board and re-seal the cuts with resin, fitting it was the biggest SOB thing, not because of the board but because of the in/out of the Fiero everytime I had to make a small mod to the board for fit, sitting is a SOB

Another fiberglass project i'm doing, center console/shifter surround/cupholder. Started it around 4pm, this was just the initial molding of the shape.

yes, progress is slowly moving at this point, some serious things to attend to and only "free" time every once in awhile is spent completing another step in customization.

There are only two things in this life which are yours and yours alone which no man can take from you. They must be given of your own free will. Sadly, many people will do anything for a few dollars. Integrity and Honor. Thank you for doing the right thing and telling the truth regardless of monetary costs.

Thank you, i've been ebaying a few things here and there, and we managed to sell our zero turn mower that we didnt need at the new house (too big, and lawn is rocky) so we should have enough to make it until i'm back to work, if need be I can borrow some $ to pay the bills from my parents. thankfully all my projects that i'm doing require very little $ as I have most of the parts/materials to do these things, just didnt have the time.

3 days until surgery....... ACK!

More "build" of the center console, the center rectangle part is going to be a dual cupholder, the open part is going to be a very well cushioned arm rest. the part where the shifter has a hole in it for "Fitting" purposes, eventually it will be cut out to the correct size, things go slow around here.... especially the resin hardening.
(except one batch when I accidently added twice the hardener.... started gel'n in 3 minutes!)

Backonholiday, if you would like some help, I have the afternoons free. I could drive down and do some glass work, etc. I'd love to see that center console mold up close and personal. Been pondering what to do with mine in the near future...

Drop me a pm if your interested in the extra set of hands. And good luck with the surgery, etc. Hernia's are a *(&%^...

YGPM back, I am free whenever. I'm in the same boat as you, I have an overabundance of free time, and not enough stuff to do to fill it (minus the hernia on my part)....

Wednesday should be fine for me, I don't see why not...Just as well that there may not be any glass work, I don't see me being much help in that department lol.. I can do it, but I don't think I am very good at it... But hey, its always nice to have someone stop by and help out with whatever, and to wish you well right?

Yes, it is larger than I need, yes it is "Lopsided", yes it looks like $hit, and yes it will be a SOB to remove the form..... but all will be cut/ground down to where I want it, and look good....hey thats what the angle grinder is for

Very exciting day, except the thought of being cut open tomorrow

Cupholder turned out very nice, the last pic is the bottom being finished off and the whole thing molded.

HOLY MOLY THAT THING IS LOPSIDED! (see blue marks where I measured to cut)

cutting the hole out, this part really sucked, I can think of many easier ways to do this next time that doesnt involve alot of cutting/drilling/chisleing/dremeling

Fitting insert from late model ford escort. if anyone wants the part code on the bottom I can provide it

Andrew, sorry about this morning. I really wish things would have been different, I would have loved to come down and help today. Guess I will see ya Monday, provided you are feeling up to it.

Good luck tomorrow with the surgery, hope all goes well.

np, I would have never gotten anything done with company, you should see the mess the angle grinder makes with fiberglass, thankfully I do it outside, with gloves, a professional mask, and goggles.

ok, heres the deal with the cupholder insert from a ford escort/tracer late model sedan:

Pic of where it comes from, and how it looks:

Ebay link of one currently 4sale:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymot...p1638Q2em118Q2el1247

An escort forum link:
http://www.feoa.net/modules...&highlight=cupholder

The escort forum compains about them.... rofl, they're lucky they dont have a cupholderless Fiero!
the only smart thing people mentioned was put some velcro on the bottom because a large bottle or something will pull the insert out.

I could not find a listing for the #'s on the bottom, so here we go with everything on the bottom Except the "Type of plastic used" #
CAV.2 44ZG-2393
F8C6-6313562-AAW
SAE PP-T20

hope that helps, supposedly if you can locate 97-2002 tracer/escort they are common.

Oh, and heres what mine looks like out of the mold an hour ago:

thank you, I was home by 330pm today, sitting down is VERY painful, standing is the best option for me, even better than laying down. Right now I have my keyboard and mouse on top of a 14inch tall box so i can stand and type on the computer, I have to take 2 perkiset (sp?) every 4 hours for the pain, peeing is by far the worst thing I have to do, takes me more than 5 minutes. I dont want to stand here long, just wanted to fill in those who were concerned.

Well, feeling a bit better now..Not as bad as this morning. Got a doc appointment tomorrow, probably getting some antibiotics... Been sucking down Nyquil like no tomorrow though...And the Mucinex is really helping too...

Give me a call Sunday night though and I will give ya an update. Worse comes to worse, we can shoot for wed-thurs...

before I got my hernia surgery I was able to put down several layers of fiberglass to support/build up the size of it, but up until yesterday it looked like crap because I had not cut/sand/trim down some of the drips /overhang etc... I got so bored yesterday that while standing up, I sanded/ground things down til everything was basicly where I want it. tonight I spent a few hours using filler (green) to smooth things out, first time using this stuff so it doesnt exactkly look perfect. (no its not a camoflage center console!)

Sides hard....

This thread will only contain the center console build, after it is done this thread will stop. To see everything I am doing.... my Blue Devil Build thread:
