After two years of thinking and tinkering, I have finished my idea for a pool ball auto shifter. I have been selling the manual knobs, and have been asked to try an auto. Now that I own an auto, I have all the parts to test things on. This is what I have come up with. The shifter has been shortened about 2 inches if you are wondering.

What do you think?
These would go for more than the manual versions, just because of the manhours involved. Before I started, I wanted the knob to fit on a stock shifter without any modifications. This is as close as I could come up with.

Here are a couple more with the custom console I am working on. Since there are two cig lighters, I turned one into a pushbutton starter. All I need to do is add the new shifter boot. I am also working on another console that looks like a manual, but fits an auto. Hopefully the pool ball will make it look better than a T handle.

More pics to come!

Hey Phil,

Very nice! I think you are going to be very popular with that setup! Props to you......

Pat

P.S. - I should be home all weekend! - but my wife is trying to talk me into going to Phoenix to check out the Barret Jackson auction.

I'm not sure what they should go for. This is the only one I have that is finished. I always say "Everything is for sale"

I would guess between $40 and $50.

Yeah, major props to you. That is one sweet product. Just looks like someone from the North American continent made it. You catch my drift?

that rocks man. if i had a floor shift auto, i would like that in the car. but i dont have any autos. i was just looking at the No. 7 ball today to use as a shift knob. closest color to match. but i think its a bit too big and not heavy enough.

Very nice, me likey!

A couple questions though:

Did you have to shorten the shifter to do this or was that just done for looks?

Is the "Button" held in some way so it won't get lost, can't tell from your pics?

Is it possible to have the "Button" sit higher than shown in pictures 2 and 4?

My thought is it may be difficult to depress the button into the ball easily to shift.

Excellent work.

The ball is great for a manual. It's plenty heavy. I have made a few dozen.

The shifter I shortened awhile ago. Not required for the knob. I just had it out of the car already. I shortened it and recut it just like a stock shifter, not just hacked off.
The button is held on with a dab of epoxy or similar. There is a recess in the button that fits over the stock actuator.
The button can sit as high as needed. I spent the most time trying to get it flush. Making it higher would actually be a lot easier!

Well, I tried another one. Made the button a little higher. The first one is in Park. The second is in Drive. It sits just a little shy of flush.
