Well here is the build thread for the next fierofiberglass.com product. (website should be up and running this week)
Eveyone has their own tastes as to what they like, and me being no different, I decided to do something that fit more to my taste. I really am not fond of the scoops that inset (dip down in). I guess I just dont want to see the Radiator in there. I love the scoops that start at the front of the hood (by the bumper) and then get taller as they travel up toward the windshield. The only thing that bothers me about those types is that they rise up taller than I like. I also like to keep the stock look of the Fiero but with a little tweek here and there. I decided to make my own style that stayed in the realm of the stock hood.
This hood scoop is still in the beginning stages so bear with me.
I started with a junk stock Fiero hood (courtesy of FierociousGT). I cut out the center portion of it right along the part where it dips down in on the sides. I then removed an additional 1" strip from each side to use as a bottom lip. I am designing this hood so it can be a "bolt on" or glassed on. After adding some foam blocks to the top to get the desired height I liked, I laid it on the car.
I wasn't happy with the way it rose off the stock hood. It didn't rise up enough down near the lower portion of the hood. I then added some more foam blocks closer to the bottom portion.
laying it on the hood again, I finally got the look I wanted.
I plan to extend the top portion a little bit so it sits even with the top of the stock hood.
I still have to do all the glass work and then there will be a mold made so I can pull an all fiberglass scoop from it.
After that sat over night, I removed it from the car and began to glass it in from the back. I laid it on thick as I want this to be rigid. This is going to be a plug only (used to make a mold)
Then the filling, sanding, shaping - filling, sanding, shaping - filling, sanding, shaping begins
Here I started builing the top extension portion. I decided to make it extend a little past the hood. The actual extension length it going to be 1 1/2 inches.
This is where I am right now. There is still a lot of filling, sanding and shaping to do.
After I am done, It will be taken to Dan so a mold can be made. Then we will pull the first part which will go on my car. We do plan to offer these for sale. The price will be in the ball park of $200.00 - $250.00 + shiping & handling.
Stay tuned for progess. I plan to post everything including the mold process and making of the first part.
LOL you did a better job so I'm hiding it in the shed. The car I was building it for was hit from behind and pushed into the car in front. It took months to just get it looking like a Fiero again then the intake gasket leaked and now its a parts car. I forgot all about it until you posted, I still have the cut out piece of hood sitting in my parts pile. Got your PM but I have to go to work now, I will give you a call later.

Is the scoop designed to be functional? ie: open to the radiator compartment? If so, I would be interested to see which way the airflow goes (taped of bits on string work well)

Any pics from inside the car? A side note; I too was concerned about my custom scoop and raised hood reaching into view. Granted, my front windshield is moved back by 3-5" and the edge of the scoop is at the level of the black line that marks the windshield.

Well by design it is functional just because I like it, so it is serving a function. It will open to the radiator by cutting out this area of the hood...
I will be taping ribbon onto the opening near the window just to see what happens. I will also take video of it when I do it.

I will take some inside the car pics in a little bit.
I just put some glazing putty on in a few spots but I will take some more pics tonight.

Getting closer to having the plug completed. Just a few more pin holes and things to hit with a little glazing putty then a final coat of primer. I should have the plug completed by tomorrow evening. Then next week I will take it to Dan to have the mold made.
Some pics from inside the car. It does look different from inside looking out over the hood. May take some getting used too.
I sprayed some rattle can Red and some clear on it. Don't pick on the paint. I know it is striped and not the same shade of Red. I did this just so I could get an idea of what it was going to look like. Tomorrow I will wet sand it and buff it out to a nice shine and take some pics outside in the sun. I will be taking this to Dan on thursday or friday. It will then be 1-2 weeks and we should be ready to offer them for sale.

By the way picked up the front bumper earlier this week. It looks fantastic. Greyhound didn't even manage to damage it.
I can hardly wait to get the car repainted now, although, now I might have to wait until I can get a cowl for the hood. Think that could ship USPS???
Cory
Thats great. I'm glad it made it there with no problems.
I'm almost 100% positive that the hood scoop can ship USPS. I don't have a price yet though. I will have to wait till Dan pulls the first one (going on my car) and then figure out weight and box size.
We should have these ready to sell in about 2-3 weeks. I am taking the plug to Dan on thursday or friday of this week. It will then take him about a week to make the mold and pull the first one. Then I need to wait for him to get enough of them made (5) to make it worthwhile to drive up there (200 miles round trip) and pick them up.

Looks great. You got it done really quick as well. I will also be interested to see how you blend it in at the base of the hood. Do you think you could take a picture of it on the car without the bra when your finished?

The new scoop comes all the way down to the bottom edge of the stock hood. Where the soop and the hood meet, the plan is to just glass the 2 edges together. This will require the removal of the center screw of the bumper. I will definately be taking more pics. there will be pics of the mold process, the layup of the first piece and then install pics.
The plug was dropped off to Dan today. Dan is going on vacation for Thanksgiving. We plan to have the mold made and start pulling parts by December 16th.

i like the height of the scoop but that upperlip by the windsheild just kills the look ....it looks too squarish in my eyes...if that wasnt there i bet it would look way better...just my 2 cents...tim....(disclaimer) this in no way a slam or flame, just an observation...

In your process at first I didn't like it as it appeared that it looked like the front wasn't closed. {closed tightly} But your final pictures are really great. Good job.
OK, I went to Dans today and picked up 2 finished scoops. One of them is going on my car and the other is for sale $225.00 + $45.00 S&H.
Front...
Back...
As stated in the beginning, this was designed to be a bolt on or molded on scoop. I plan to do mine as a bolt on. The idea is to use these clips...
3 on each side on the lip that is underneath the scoop. In conjuntion with the clips I am also going to use 3M tape down both sides and across the front. I am also going to glass in the gront edge so the seam between the scoop and the hood is not there.
