Update 05-21-09 Unclaimed Coins Alternate List and Award Proceedure.

The payment deadline will be moved up to next week, probably Tuesday. If you were part of the original group that had requested the coins and have not paid, you will loose your claim to the coins that you requested. I need to recover the money that I loaned you by having the coins produced in your name.

This is the current alternate list for awarding unpaid for coins. The coins will be released next week, and will be awarded in the order that you see here. (The order that they were requested) You can still be added to the list if you wish. Each person will get one coin until we run out. After the final coins are gone I will start a new thread and roll the remaining requests over to the new thread when it is started.

Have $13 in your paypal ready to go. I want this to happen fast once we start moving.

Update 05-14-09 The coins are in the mail and will be arriving at your houses very soon if your name shows you as having paid for them. See name list below.

We did it!

Update 04-25-09 Payment in full has been made. Now we wait for our coins to ship. After they arrive at my house I will pair your coins with their activation codes, add instructions that explain how to activate them and get them sent out.

Up0date:04-24-09 I received this email from Kelly at the manufacturer's.

quote
Hi Kenton,
The coins have an estimated completion date of 5/8. Once finished they will
be shipped to our office, packaged and mailed out once payment in full has
been received.

By the time they get them and ship them to me I estimate that I should have them in my hands on May 14. Payment will be completed this weekend.

04-18-09 - I have forwarded the tracking numbers to the manufacturer. The project is entirely in their hands now. I emailed Kelly to ask her for a general time frame as to when our coins will be ready. I will pass that information along as soon as I receive word. The last steps of this 2+ month project is production, shipping from them to me, and then from me to you.

04-17-09 - Our tracking numbers have been sent to me. All tracking codes for our Pontiac Fiero geocoin will start with PF. (Thanks Annie ) I will be sending them to the manufacturer shortly.

04-15-09 - Tomorrow we officially launch production! We have done it! Thank you for being a part of the Geocoin Project.

04-14-70 - Please take a look at the choices on page 4 for the final coin design. The addition of the text was added to make our coin GM and www.goecaching.com legal. Cliff Pennock previously approved the use of fiero.nl on our coin. It was required by GM as part of the LOA. Thanks Cliff.

The tracking numbers have been ordered. They should be sent to me in approx 10 days according to the geocaching website. That should give me plenty of time to forward them to the manufacturer for production.

04-07-09 - I have read through the eight page LOA. GM has been good to us. Tonight, I am sending the email to the manufacturer that will begin the wheels turning on their end. If you have not sent your funding yet please do so at this time. By Friday I would like to place our order for tracking numbers from Groundspeak (www.geocaching.com).

04-06-09 - The LOA has arrived! If you still haven't sent your funds please do so by Friday. I will send pm's tomorrow when I get to a proper computer.

04-02-09 - Our $135 deposit with coinsforanything has been placed. Our price has been locked in.

03-28-09 - In order to guarantee our price quote from coinsforanything.com I am going to put down our deposit of $135 on Monday. The quote that I received on March 5th is only valid for 30 days from when I received it so I want to make sure that we lock it in.

I had hoped to have heard back from EMI by now but we are still waiting on them. The second week in April is on the outside end of when they told me I should hear back.

03-22-09 - For those of you who have not sent your money yet there is no hurry. We needed to get funding for 100 coins to make the project viable. We have that. The rest of it can come after we get the Letter of Authorization from EMI. I will send out pm's at that time. This is one of two slow periods of which I have no control. Currently the project is in the hands of EMI. The next slow period will be manufacturing but that will be the last one. Once the coins hit my doorstep they will be out to you as soon as I can package them and get them in the mail.

03-19-09 - Updated the member funding list. Still waiting on Equity Management Inc. (EMI), regarding the final approval and the trademark Letter of Authorization (LOA). Their letter indicated that it normally takes 4 weeks for final approval. We should have news from EMI around the end of the month.

03-12-09 - The application for the Letter of Authorization has been completed and is in the mail and will soon be in the hands of EMI for approval. Now we wait again.

03-10-09 - Yesterday I received word back from Equity Management Inc., (The firm that approves licensing for GM trademarked logos). They have waived their processing fee for me.

I may have to add a club name to the coin. I will check with Cliff to see if I can get his blessing to put fiero.nl on the coin if it is required. Edit: Got approval from Cliff.

These are the last things that need to happen to get the coins into your hands.:

1. Receive the Letter of Authorization from GM for the trademarks - Their letter said approx. 4 weeks
2. Obtain tracking numbers from Groundspeak.
3. Complete the manufacturing process and shipping to me - Steps two and three can be initiated on the same day
4. Shipping from me to you.

For those of you who have not sent your funding there is no hurry. If you would like to wait until after step 1 is complete that is OK. We are properly funded to proceed with the project at this point.

As soon as we receive the Letter of Authorization I will update this post again.

=======================================================

I have received funding for the required 100 coins. The final quantity of coins that we will be ordering is now frozen. I need to receive the Letter of Authorization from GM with the blessing for our coins since some of the things on our coin look very close to their logo.

I am sorry for all of the changes that have come since this all started. It is a worthy project and I wanted to see it through. This is my first coin project and I am learning as I go.

For those of you who have told me to keep the change, I would like to thank you. I had not thought about the paypal fees when I set the price. I will just about break even because of you. This has been a project for the group on a non-profit basis. I actually want to show a slight loss on the project so please do not send additional money. Thank you all for participating.

-List of people who have joined the project and the quantity requested.

-Updated 03-04-09: We now have funding for the required 100 coins and the quantity that we will be ordering is frozen.

-------------------------------Edited Original Post-------------------------------------------

I have gotten into the hobby of geocaching and think that it would be cool to have a custom Fiero Geocoin made. For those of you who don't know what they are, they are highly artistic coins usually about 2 inches wide and three millimeters thick. They are beautiful in their own right worthy of collecting if done properly. Here are some sample coines.

Each coin has a unique tracking number stamped onto one side. They are intended to be placed in geocaches for people to find using their GPS then moved to another geocache where it is then logged. Each coin's movement can be tracked online at www.geocaching.com

We will need to come up with a design for our coin. Please submit your designs in this thread. If you have the winning design I will send a coin to you from my order at no cost.

pricing page. As you can see there is a cost benefit for ordering in quantity. Minimum order is 100 coins due to the tooling involved.

---I will not make a single penny on this but think that it is a worthy project so I am willing to donate my time---

Do you have a design in mind, maybe a pic?

Maybe we should just PM you how many we are interested in so this thread doesn't end up full of " I'll take 2"
I'll take at least 2 BTW

EDIT: how about a fiero on the front and 1984 - 1988 on the back along with a Pegasus logo?

I purposefully did not post what our commemorative coin should look like. I have found that better concepts emerge if I don't lead the creative process. Artists have a talent for creativity that is better when it is not limited.

For now post here so that I can gauge interest. If we get enough people who want in I will let everyone know what the next step is at that time.

I have a suggestion: What about making the coins so that they have the different club initials on them? Then send the corresponding one(s) to each club and have them place it in a geocaching location for different people to find? That way, if someone from out of state comes in, they can look for it, find it, and take it to a location in their state, or another state. It would be cool to find a MAFOA coin in northern California Track them online and see if they can make it to all 50 states...

If someone can give me dimensions for the size of the coin, I can draw something up to scale. I like the idea a lot, and would be interested for possible 4-5 coins, providing the price isn't too high.

I can't help you out with the design process, but I'd purchase one or two if they get made. I collect geocoins from things that interest me, or ones that I just think have a cool design.

Xerces_Blackthorne, due to the tooling required the coins are all the same. The difference is the data plate where the unique tracking code is engraved. Having different club logos or wording would require a new mold and the price would be prohibitive for most. It takes a minimum order of 100.

You can count me in for 5 @17.50 + shipping. I have been interested in geocaching but never got started. This would give me a reason to get out there.

I haven't done this before, but Fiero coins would definitely get me doing it .

The only problem is putting them back, or in another location

count me for 3
yes, I dont think they'll be "collector" coins - but I'll put into my collection anyways
the obvious design would be the Pegasus logo on the back, and a Fiero on the front
probably a 1984-1988 for the date
maybe some background script of any races Fiero's won, back in the day

Pyrthian, I like your idea. Can you post any concept designs? For that matter, anybody can post an idea. I will see what I can do about getting some artwork done.

Remember that you don't have to geocache with them. If we get close enough to 100 I may spring for the rest to fill the order. I know that several people will want one later after they see them.

The link is fixed. I think this is incredible. I could even see somebody attaching one of these in place of their hood emblem.

The picture was emailed to my private account instead of posted here, so out of respect for the sender I am not going to tell you who it was.

The email said that there are a couple more ideas on the way. I can't wait to see them. Expect the next concept to have more colors. Also the last email said that there will probably be some designs for the backside.

I like the submitted designs, however, we would be remiss if PFF wasn't acknowledged & immortalized somewhere in the design.

Agreed. Most geocoins that I have held in my hand have a photo or illustration on the front and information of some sort on the back along with the data plate for the tracking number.

Edit: Also, thanks to whoever gave me the +.

Will take 2 if they are struck from .999% pure silver, limited to 200 total production-the dies destroyed forever, and if each coin comes with a beautiful & numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

Thank you for your order and confidence. I really appreciate it. I am your #328

Cash works. I will pm my address to you but don't send it until we get close to ordering. I will announce when payment will begin.

Kenton

Just an observation. This object is definitely Fiero related--qualifies for either Gen Fiero or mall section AFAIK. You might have better luck reaching more people in either of those sections. Many PFF members do not venture into the seedy backstreet known as OT.

Perhaps you should consider asking Cliff if he deems it appropriate to move this to one of those 2 sections.

Good Idea. I will see if it can be moved to GFC. I think it would get the most traffic there.

I'll stick with my original order, and the whole shebang, epoxy coated and everything.

Same here. I will stick with my original order, with an E on the end. (I want 3, but may get a total of 10. Not sure yet.)
