Replaced my Firewall carpet and door panel carpet with black vinyl. Not too tuff, but I don't want to do it agian. Pics tell the story.
1. Went to Joann Fabrics and got 9 yards of black vinyl for $28.00 2. Had some glue from my Mr Mikes seats. Needed more and got some 3M "90". 3. Cardboard to act as a template and backer for the vinyl 4. WD40 to remove the carpet from the door skin 5. (I had to, but not everyone) Resin/Fiber Glass to fix door bottom.
Firewall carpet was easy, comes off easy. Just cut, paste and tuck. The door skins were another story. Had to do a lot of cutting, fitting, gluing and waiting. My big issue was when I removed the carpet off one door it went real easy, sprayed some WD40 on it and it came off. The second door skin did not go as easy. I removed the carpet but took off too much cardboard in the process. When I was done, the skin was paper thin. I had to fix it with some fiberglass/resin. It came out fine.
Had to fix the bottom of the door, because when I removed the carpet I took off too much cardboard.
questions??? Just ask.
Rob

Looks great, I'm looking at doing the same combo with the beachwood interior on my 88GT, only difference is I'll probably install some 6x9's on the door skins. Thanks for the preview!
btw...are those Mr. Mikes seat covers?

Really great looking modification to an awesome looking car. Looks like the factory did it. Definately an improvement over the carpeted doors. I have never been a fan of the style of carpeting that GM went with. Now, the ideas are flowing.

As for price, i'd say I have less than $50 in the whole thing. and if you take your time removing the carpet (door skins) you will have less. I spent $25 on the resin/glass for the one door.
the fire wall was a 10 minute job. removed the old carpet (came off with no effort) then did the job in my living room. Laid out the vinyl, cut off enough to fit, sprayed on the glue, let it flash, then just put it on. Best part is that all you have to get real good is the middle 85%, cause' you don't see the outside edge or the middle edge (its under the center console).
Maloso, yes MM black and beechwood. The flash really pulled the colors out, in daylight you can't see any diff in the seats and skins.
Tony, thanks. I had seen someone do this back at Carlisle in 02. Interior was all done in black and BW. I finally got around to doing it. Pulling my headliner out got me motivated. Now I still have to fix the headliner.
Xerces.... I hear you. It took me 6 years to get my engine swap done. $$$$$$$$$$$

Hehe, its shaping up to be that way with me on my interior project lol... Still have to get MrMikes in red and black, new carpet in black, and black paint for the trim. Although I'm really starting to ponder wrapping the trim (A pillars, etc) in black vinyl But that means I have to redo my headliner and visors again in vinyl At least I fiberglassed the board though
Again, congrats on the wonderful project, turned out great and it looks awesome. Try using some Eagle One leather and vinyl cleaner on it, much better than Armorall IMO, and keeps things shiny as all hell
So when you coming to do mine?

Funny you ask about doing this agian. It was "easy" to do, but I hope I don't have to do it again anytime soon. working with the glue was a pain in the A$$. I got very lucky a few times with the glue and not making a mess of things. Only thing I can say is you have to measure, measure, measure and then cut. Finally, go slow, cause if you do to much, to fast, it can get you into a mess real quick.
