I keep hearing the same thing from almost everyone around me... friends, family, local Fiero club members, even random people I meet on the street. They keep telling me I should paint my Fiero all black. Many of them specifically say flat black (i.e. "hot rod black").

I had originally planned to paint my Fiero 2-tone silver and black (similar to the original paint job). But I think I may be caving in to the pressure.

So let's start a poll. Tell me whether you think I should paint it all black or the 2-tone silver and black scheme. Just to be clear, those are the only two options. I can't stop you from making other suggestions, but I'll probably ignore them.

Below are a few photos of my Fiero. Maybe one of you Image editing gurus can color it all black? Thanks!

Your Fiero just looks angry! In a good way. It appears as if it is ready to pounce on some unsuspecting gazelle.

silver and black, or a gunmetal and black trim. I think it would look even more aggressive in that color scheme as well.

Don't paint it flat black. Its pretty well played out; the first guy who did it was a groundbreaker but once you've seen one you've seen them all. Its yesterday's news.

You can't go wrong with a good quality "regular" shiny paint job, no matter the color. Silver, black, red, it doesn't matter. Just make sure its glossy.

I like the black and silver idea myself, but I think for that the black should be metallic.

i have painted a couple of cars and i am sure you want something that will last and look nice. I would go with satin black for the lowers and the trim like the origional. Beause it is easy to touchup and fix. and either a nice gunmetal grey or a flat grey with lots of clear. but it is your opinion. I would also put a small pin strip like the indy red around the bottom to make it look different!

I honestly hate flat black cars, so No, I would go with the silver and black 2-tone. That would look good.

Definitely NOT flat black. If you want it all black, it would look nice, but MANY Fiero's do that (including me ). I suggest the black and silver. That'l make it stand out.

Mine is solid black. I wish it was any other color. Too hot in summer and it only looks good for the first 15 Min. after washing, it water spots like crazy. You can't wash and go, it must be dryed.

Just my two cents.

I say ALL silver with some subtle red details, calipers maybe.... perhaps some custom pinstriping here and there tastefully done. That car is a very nice looking notchie and IMHO the sweetest, classiest sports cars in the world are SILVER!! That car really has some potential.... good luck and peace

To me, flat black cars always have that unfinished look. I say silver and black or maybe a gun metal grey.

Hmm... some interesting comments. BTW, thanks to JohnWPB for the image edit. It was good enough to help me make a mental picture.

I'm going to keep the ones that are on it. If I do decide to paint the car black, the wheels will probably be stripped and polished. And if I decide to paint it silver, the body color will be matched (as close as possible) to the wheels.

BTW, here's the build thread : LINK

Were I in your shoes, I'd go with silver and black instead of just black.

In particular, while I realize the "Sunshine State" of Florida isn't always sunny, I'm unable to think of a color that would be worse than flat black for absorbing, rather than reflecting the sun's heat. However, I suppose flat black might be a good color to have on your Fiero if you ever chose to fry some eggs on it in Florida.

I'm sorry but that wing stand looks really good. I might have to do that myself. I would be willing to bet that it makes the car more aerodynamic and increases downforce.

Can you show me a close up of your wing stands? Build thread?

Be for warned. He molded the rear decklid in from the rib up. To do that on a stock notchie or GT would be difficult. GT, my head hurts just thinking about it. Notchie not as bad, but the wingstand wouldn't be able to extend down as far.

I'll take a stab and assume that the wingstands are moulded to the addition on the decklid, and there's a seam somewhere around there for opening it? Would love some closer shots to see just how you open and close the deck now...

I love black paintjobs, but if you paint it matt black you will require a sound beating or two. It looks horrific, and is common practice on nasty old heaps of junk driven by filthy bogan types who think it's a great idea to remove all your springs and drive around at 10MPH thumping the roof while hurling abuse and/or empty beer bottles at random folk. Or maybe that's just around here

I have pictures saved somewhere, let me see if I can find it. The decklid is actually clam shelled basically. Everything above the rib molding goes up when you open it. For awhile he had a turnbeckle style wingstand holding up the wing that looked pretty neat.

Notice he did something very similair with the front fenders.

Edit: I really like the work he's done. The nose isn't my taste, but it still looks good.

Apparently he has done a couple of wing mounts. I really like the one in the picture at the top. It sits so far back that it reminds me a a Carrera GT. I am not saying that it looks like one but that was my first though about the wing placement.

I tend to agonize over decisions like this for weeks, or even months. But I think I finally hit upon an idea. The silver and black color scheme on the Audi R8 is starting to grow on me. ( Link to Photos ). But I'm not sure if I want the ground effects to be black or silver. I'll have to agonize over that for a while.

Thoughts? Opinions?

I have a black Fiero and a white Fiero. The black Fiero needs to be washed again immediately after I wash it- I can't keep it clean, so I have given it up, and let the weather wash it when it rains.
The white Fiero looks good all the time, even when it is dirty. So I don't see the point in washing it, and now I let the weather wash it when it rains. Except for special occasions, in which case I wash it to impress the girls.
So ipso facto and QED, it takes less time and money to maintain a black Fiero, so my advice is to paint it black. Unless you want to impress the girls.

Mike, if you are set on the Audi look then I'd go for silver with black accents. I tend to prefer the old fashioned two tone like the 78 corvette pace car.

Iam voting for Silver/Black. A more "modern" metallic Silver/Black combo would look sharp.

Please don´t paint it black. It will be to hot in summer, black kills the contour of the body
and you will see every little bit of dirt on the surface.
Very shiny silver and black would be my personal favourite.
