Greetings everyone.. after several years of being without one of our beloved 2 seaters...
Just picked up an '86 bumper pad notchie for my 16 yr old daughter. Iron Duke with the isuzu 5 speed with 187k on the clock.
Laundry list of things needs to be addressed before she can get behind the wheel.. front end needs rebuilt, head light motors need rebuilt, clutch pedal is bent, drivers side coolant tube has a kink in it (thought it still flows) gas and temp gages don't work, headliner needs replaced and the tires are bald. The passenger side fender needs attention and the nose prolly needs attention too.
But the frame is INCREDIBLY solid!! Not a lick of rust anywhere.
All in all, I'm happy being $800 lighter in the wallet for this.

Actually.. I got $200 from the origional craigs list add I found it on.
My daughter doesn't know about it yet.. she'll get her surprise on Sunday when I pick it up. The seller is 2.5 hours away from me.. so BK is where we met (half way) for me to look at it and take it out for a drive.
I'm not in any of those pictures
The guy in the red shirt was parked in a van and wrote the sellers # down from the glass... then watched me hand over the cash and get the title

So this afternoon, we drove down to Salem IN to pick up the car and bring it home.
My daughter was excited because she got to drive most of the way down to pick it up (She still only has her learners permit).
I was a little worried because she's not seen it in person yet.. only from the few snapshots I took of it when I bought it. After giving it a good once over, then another one for good measure, she turned to me and said "Daddy, it's beautiful! Looks much better in person than the pictures!".
Alrighty then! Let's take it home.
I drove the 140 miles back for a few reasons..
#1 she doesn't know how to drive a stick #2 it's not plated yet (just had the title in hand) #3 the front end suspension is very squirrely.
My sister went down with us so that she could drive my car back.. long about 7:00 tonight it started getting dark so I turned on the lights. At 7:15 my sister calls me and let's me know that I don't have any tail lights. I let her know that it's all good, cause I don't have any dash lights either
We finally make it to the house without incident and I pull up into the drive way, put it in first gear and crank on the parking break. Get out of the car.. stretch the legs.. and watch the Fiero roll back ever so gently and kiss my Dodge Caliber.
Right then.. pull it back up next to the garage, toss out the wheel chocks.. and there she will sit until I can find a place to store my goldwings for the winter and get some room in the garage to restore this little '86 to where my daughter can drive it.

We've already got an aero package for it waiting to be put on.. and I've got a truck load of parts coming from the Fiero Store (kinda bummed I couldn't get a discount for being a PFF member anymore) and Rodney Dickman...
I'm going to make her do most of the work herself.. with the exception of critical components like suspension and breaks.. she can assist, but I want to be sure that it's done 100% right. Over protective daddy I suppose.
[edit] Forgot to mention that we'll be putting together a build thread (and she'll make her own account to introduce herself) once we get the garage cleaned up (been doing a *LOT* of wood working stuff in there recently) and space made by storing the motorcycles....
Trying to get her to come up with a name for it.. any suggestions? [/edit]

Welcome back! I love to see young people getting involved with the Fiero. For the Fiero to survive they are the future. Looking forward to the build thread.

Lots of cars were wired so that if you lost both tail lights, even from burned out bulbs, you lost your dash lights as well. Kind of a safety issue. When investigating the dash lights, you could be informed there were no rear lights.

Welcome back, and glad to see your daughter has good taste in fine cars! I also love that you have her doing the work, it gives them an appreciation for the car. My daughter is 14 and owns an 84, and does all the work on it herself, with me watching under a careful eye. Here is her build thread:
Heya, it is Datacop's kid. We haven't started working on the car yet, need to free up the garage space for it XD, but I am pretty ready to start. Everytime we get to talking about it I say, "I can't wait to start on the car." So just waiting to get my hands on it..
So, Hi everyone! =D
