I recently checked out the footage of this beautiful, yet sad story. It is an interesting reminder to those of us outside the US that despite all the criticism aimed at America from around the world, Americans are by and large the most generous people on the planet. Haiti...Earthquakes...Tsunamis...Starvation... Who is the first one on the scene time and time again? The USA.
While many in Japan, South Korea, Western Europe and Canada have conveniently forgotten that it was primarily the US that guarded our nations against the USSR and China for decades and allowed us to prosper, many in these same countries rub their hands in glee at the current financial mess that the US finds itself in.
For all of America's flaws, I can think of no other nation who responds to others in need, whether a total stranger dying of cancer, paying for AIDS medications in Africa, or safeguarding weaker countries against totalitarianism.
On a per capita basis, Americans (despite being in dire financial straits) donate more money to charity than anyone on earth.
Here is one Canuck hoping that the world will once again respect the good that the US does, rather than continue to obsess over America's flaws, while giving corrupt dictatorships a free ride.
Hello Peter Well I have to agree with you 100%, but some of us "canadians" are also trying to make a difference. USA are always on the front lines and doing their best .....they always never get the recognition they deserve..... could you imagine one day if a major event happened in a country needing help and the united states would not deploy to help ... huummm that country would be in KaKa up to their eyeballs and the whole world would krap on USA for not helping .... REALLY REALLY unfair ...... long live the USA and my wishes go out to those in the states having hardships... I wish Canada could return you the favor of all your sacrifices you have made for us ..... may you be proud of your wonderful country ... and may your financial future be better
I'm impressed as well with the first two statements. I will also say that I work with Canadians everyday and find them to be good people as well. In fact, I consider you guys close kin to the United States and have respect for those who make up all that is Canada. Let's not forget that Canada too has sent some it's best to do what is right in the world. I think other countries should be included such as Australia, Great Britain, and several European countries. I believe that the US and Canada share many of the same values.

Well, knowing Danyel for a while and seeing the kind of guy he is, and now seeing this thread, you can tell not everyone in the world hates us. We have our faults, like any other country, but thank you for the kind words. A big huge thumbs up to our neighbors to the north!
Reminds me of this - that came out back in the ''70s: America: The Good Neighbor.
"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts.
None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States. When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.
When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped. The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, war mongering Americans.
I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10?
If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes? Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon - not once, but several times - and safely home again.
You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.
When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke.
I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.
Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those."
I have been "less than pleased" with many issues our country has been facing, and the way we've handled these issues. In a time where the news sounds like a horror book on tape, many government officials have more in common with criminals than they do with the average American, many of our personal freedoms are being eroded by ever-present "Big Brother", and more people are losing their homes than there are people buying, I have to say this thread has warmed my heart a little. Thank you for the kind words guys, and for being our brothers up North.

We certainly appreciate the recognition. I know there are a lot of things this country can use some improvement on both within and without but it's certainly nice to get a pat on the back every now and again. I would like to point out that several forum members from Canada certainly didn't sit back and watch when the Tyler Shipman Project was unfolding; they too jumped in with both feet and arranged, gave and organized with the best of them. I for one am looking forward to not only my first trip to Frazee, MN to meet the dream team and the people of Frazee but also the influential and generous Canadians that helped as well.
"Wonder which RFT clown came back under this username? May you get your wish." Guys like 10speed are even worth the effort to type this; better not to give any recognition at all. You can't fix "stupid". ------------------ 1988 GT Manual Medium Red Metallic Gray Leather

Stand proud, America! Wear it proudly!!
And...history repeats itself. Canada, Britain, Israel...at least there are a few countries we can still count on. Thanks for the pat on the back!
Thank You from a Proud American Soldier! I have worked with some Soldiers in the Canadian Forces and they are as dedicated as we are in the fight and we always got each others back.
