That car can not be sold and can not be titled for road use, ever! I picked up an 88gt with 5k on it like that, I was able to part some of it out before the rest was sent to the crusher and melted down! GM is very specific on what happens to that car when the School is done with it.

Hmmm, I have a couple of nice VIN tags that could be swapped on a good frame/body/car..... of course, this would only be for personal use.... and to never sell the car. Why waste a good Fiero?

80 miles my rear. Look at the carpet...look at the steering wheel (no horn buttons)... With only 80 miles, I'd guess they mean on a rebuilt engine maybe!

It was a car that GM donated to a school for teaching/training purposes, so it was never driven. However, hundreds (thousands?) of people have climbed in and out of it touching everything at least as many times......it was not a car that has sat untouched in a garage for 25 years. So while the mileage is extrememly low, the condition of the car suggests otherwise.

I just spoke with the owner. It is titled and ready to roll. Shipping quote should be to me tomorrow. Is anyone nearby that could do an inspection for me? The thing that caught my attention was the horn buttons, or lack of them. He also has a 3 x 32 Fords if anyone is into those.

The horn buttons being broken off on an 80 mile example just kind of rased a hair on my neck. Having said that, the car was probably climbed into and out of more than a 100k mile car!
Chester's car was sold to someone in California, IIRC....the guy that bought it is a member of the forum. He had it for sale in The Mall a while back.
Sad story, that. The guy that bought it from Chester turned it into a driver, and sold it when it had ~75000 miles on it. Turns out it's the car that will be on the American 'Top Gear' this weekend, and will likely be destroyed

I'd probably have a chance this weekend to take a look at it for you. Maybe snap a few pics too. Pass it by him first & let me know.

Donated to a school? To do WHAT to it exactly? I can think of a whole bunch of destructive stuff I could do to a car and NEVER drive the thing a SINGLE mile.
Just sayin....

I have heard there is a older gentleman in Lewiston that has a pretty good size Fiero collection, I think that might be him. I know he had one in the Uncle Henry's once.

The policy has changed in past few years. GM actually sells some of these cars at auction with "Bill of Sale only" includes prototypes that were supposed to be destroyed. Had a bunch of these sales recently.

I own a 1987 white Fiero 4cyl Auto that was a donated school car. It sits in my garage with 000079.9 miles on the odometer. School never used it..was sold by the City as a abandoned car in 2002 since there was no title. Still had plastic on floors and window sticker on it.Also factory chalk marks on tires and body. There was a old post here from 2008 "how many miles on your Duke" pics of car on there. Its a cool thing to own as its a new 24 year old car. Like a time capsule. It cant be titled but sold thru "Bill of Sale only" Dont wanna drive it anyway... Some states will title it I hear. Wish I knew which ones. I guess as salvage. Im preserving it in AS-IS new condition.

This is all true. I'm the one who bught Chester's gold SE and drove it home from Connecticut to Los Angeles 7 seven years ago. I put an easy 10k miles on it per year. Most of those miles were 80 mile round trip freeway runs to work. I cared for it like a baby. I sold it last summer to a nice couple from North Hollywood who turned out to be something other than a nice couple from North Hollywood. Now I don't thik they were a "couple" at all. They were buying the car for the Top Gear show. I think the episode will be shown this Sunday. When Chester found the car in New Hampshire it had no VIIN tags on it. New Hampshire issued tags with new VIN numbers. When I took it to the California Highway Patrol to have it inspected (a DMV requirement to register out-of-state vehicles in California) the inspecting officer would not accept the N.H. VIN. He pulled the N.H. tags off and put brand new California VIN tags on the using the original GM VIN that was found on the chassis. I was thrilled. Now she was all original. It will be sad to se her defiled on that stupid T.V. show. I'll watch the show out of respect for the great times I had with the car. However, being one of the few remaining Capitalists in California, I must insist that they have the right to do whatever they want with the car. That's what I did when I bought it and drove it home and many thought it should go into a museum. That doesn't mean that I don't regret selling it to them. That show is still stupid to the bone. indydriver in L.A.

Yeah, I don't blame you for not driving it, but with cars like these, they should be able to be titled, even as home built. They have to be inspected, but should be able to get a title.
