Well, i have absolutely always loved Fieros. Ever since my oldest brother had an 86 GT. I have had 3 other cars and was not happy with any of them. I had a 1996 Ford Probe GT which was a complete piece of crap, blew up on me after only 2 months of having my license. Next was a 1991 Honda Civic, very reliable and got 36 mpg, little rough shape but treated me well for a year. Next was a 97 Toyota Corolla that me and my father picked up for $200. It has an insane amount of miles on it but still runs perfect and gets about 34 mpg and i drove that for about 6 months and now my father drives it as his commuter car.
Now the best of all of my cars, I bought a 1987 Fiero GT. I searched high and low for months and months and months to find one in decent shape for my price range. I stumbled upon this one that was for sale at a used car dealer up by my brothers house near Lake Hopatcong, NJ. The guy was asking $4,600. It is automatic and completely stock, has 77k original miles on it. I went and test drove it, ran very well! had some small issues with it. The long and the short of it, i talked him down to $3,800 for it. bought it and drove it home. Fell in love with it more and more as the days went on. I absolutely love the way that the car drives.
The problems with the car are very minor. The headliner needs replacing, there is one small tear in the drivers seat, the dash around the guages are a bit bowed out from the sun hitting it i would guess. The sail windows are cracked a bit. And there is some clear coat peeling around the sun roof, and on the spoiler. All of these problems will be fixed soon enough.
Now on to the pictures.

Thank you, and i will be enjoying it. The car is perfect for me because if it were in completely perfect showroom condition i wouldnt deserve to own it. I feel that a car is meant to be driven so since mine has some issues with it, i am content with putting the miles and the wear and tear on it. Although i will be keeping up with the maintanence and keep it in the best shape i possibly can.

Believe it or not, those are the most common issues with these cars. You can replace the headliner fabric yourself. You can buy seat cover replacements from Mr. Mikes. The vinyl always separates from the gauge/center console....there are threads on here on how to fix them using Gorilla Glue. The quarter windows can be purchased from a few vendors and the paint, well that is the most difficult to fix if you are not a DIY'er.
Welcome to the forum.

I plan on doing everything myself except for the clear coat being fixed, the ares are a bit too large to fix myself. I will have my neighbor who works at a body shop fix it for me. I was thinking maybe just having the clear fixed or possibly painting it completely. Possibly the same color it is, maybe a different color like blue, or possibly flat black. The possibilities are endless!

Know how you feel. We just got our first Fiero last fall. Looks just like yours. Has all the options less rear defog and T-top, not sure T-top was offered that year. Anyway 49,000 mi., great paint, new tires and brakes, very clean interior. Did need a EGR valve, new head liner cloth, complete tune up with plug wires, distributor module and pick up coil, cap and rotor, plugs and all the fluids. Still need to repair the cruise control, all there just not working.
Again congrats! You'll have a great time with it.

Congrats! Great looking GT! I was the same as you, fell in love with Fieros the first time I saw one. Went through a 97 Grand Am GT, Olds 88 Ninety Eight, 65 Plymouth Valiant, 02 S-10 before I finally got my 86 GT. Welcome and treat your GT well!

Yea actually i got it in Sussex, close enough haha. Yea i checked and there was no rust anywhere on the car, thankfully. even under the carpet in the trunk which was surprising because of the fact that there was a small leak that i had to fix. You all will most definitely be seeing me post on here alot more now =]

Oh definitely, i have been looking for anything fiero related for car clubs or meets or anything and it seems like the closest one would be NYFOC and their Watkins Glen (sorry on spelling) meet. But that is almost 5 hours from me, i mean i really would not mind at all doing it but would rather have something a bit closer. And if you are in Allentown, that is only about an hour and a half from me. Definitely keep me updated!!!

edit: Just pull back the carpet in the trunk, and check to see if there's any rust.
Anyone else chime in with some stuff for him to check out? (I know he already bought the car, but it's good to check certain things...
Also, read up on how to change the coolant ("burping" the car)
...and if you bring it to a place to change the oil, or to get work done, explain how to lift the car so the coolant tubes don't get crushed (They run along the bottom of the car on both outer edges near the doors)
and also make sure they lube the grease fittings (not sure how many your model has) I think you have 6 in the front: upper ball joint Lower ball joint Outer tie rod and 4 in the rear Lower ball joint and outer tie rod
(or does he have more in the back, I forget. upper ball joints, too? (STUPID BRAIN!)

Thank you very much, yes i already know about the coolant tubes and everything involving the coolant. I do not plan on bringing my car to a mechanic anyway so i will not have to worry about them lifting it the wrong way.
Thank you for all of the welcomes, and it is good to be here. The past couple of months i have just been reading as much as possible on here and learning as much as i can about anything i would be remotely interested in. The possibilities are endless on what can be done to these cars to make them stand out even more than they already do. That is the one major thing i love about the Fiero, the looks i get while driving down the road and people staring thinking to themselves "WTF is that!? and where do i get one!?" haha

I like the angles and lighting in your pics. In the second pic, the front wheels shouldn't be turned. Beautiful score, congrats! I hope familiarity doesn't breed contempt this time :P

Yea I realized that about the wheels turned for that angle afterwards. And yea I do like the color combination of it a lot. I like it much better than the brighter red.

And so it begins. Just think, in a few years, youll look back at this thread and remember what it looked like when you first got it. By then you will have put rims on it, some body mods, new interior, maybe even talking about a motor swap.
