It was a 5 speed with slicks and an aftermarket turbo. No Miata came turbo from the factory for that generation. I think his tires might have been wider than mine and I run 255's...

You could see it understeer on the last turn...looks like it could be fun tho.....do you guys run dot-r tires?
I was running Falken street tires in the front and BF Goodrich G-Force TA's in the back all 255/55/16, can't speak for anyone else but it's time to just use slicks now it seems...

Yea, I'm not a fan of the 1/4 mile. This is a 1/3 mile oval...and you actually have to drive vs. run an auto and stomp the pedal...
Always loved watching figure 8 racing but, I'll have to admit adding that whoop-de-do or mogul at the intersection adds an interesting challenge to the drama. Yeah, looks like fun. Don't think I'll be taking any of my Fiero Formulas to that event though, way too much money, time, blood, sweat and tears invested.
IMHO, drag racing is a mechanic's race, auto-crossing, road rallies and such are more for driver's.

If you know anything about guys who build real 1/4 mile cars, their is no skill to it. You set your stall, use a line lock, run skinnies on the front and tub out the back and ofcourse turn into a trailer queen. You can take any car and with $ it will be a 10 second car. I took my daily driver to the track and hung with a Miata that consistently places top 3 for these events. Only thing I changed from the street is the G-Force tires I had on the back.
Oh and if you think I'm being hard on 1/4 mile racerS, I'm not critisizing the people who do it, just the fact that it only measures money and power. So for instance, if I race a car stock and pull a 15 sec 1/4 mile...then do some mods, I can measure how much money I spent, run the 1/4 mile and measure how much power I gained. If the mods included skinnies, it does not measure how much handling I lost.

If you do go slicks get some pretty soft ones....they are pretty slickery when cold....and they drive VERY different.
Have you done any track days...that may be quite a bit of fun for you.
I was never able to get into auto x...sorry but it is just running around in a parking lot...it is not racing. I did run the Fiero's evil asian sister in SCCA improved touring for quite a while and it is great fun and not too expensive for real racing....I don't have any pics of the MR2 but do have a pic of me on the false grid in its much more expensive replacement.....sorry don't know how to post the pic but will post the link.
No, you get no track time. The spirit of this race is a "spectator drag". I don't autocross. The cars for this event are supposed to be daily drivers but some of them are not driven daily for sure.
In my facebook page, I have older videos of me running other setups. https://www.facebook.com/loudias

If you are just looking @ money spent and Hp power output in a STREET drag race then you will get a big surprise. 1 When I beatdown a ZR1 in the 1/8 the naysayers wrote it off as the driver wasn't very good.
Maybe they were right or maybe it isn't just about how much money you spend and how much HP you have!
I would love to race on a oval track like that but have not found any local events that i can compete.
Ya know, from my perspective, it really doesn't matter if you win or loose. Either way that look like a blast. I would love to do something like that but there is no where around here to do it, even though we have a world class race track in the neighborhood (Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca).
I guess someone needs to organize it and rent the track. Unfortunately, it seems like most of the people around here are only interested in making money, not having fun. If they can't make a bundle of money off something they don't want to do it.
Personally, I think two laps would be more fun.
How much was the entry fee for that race?

You get pretty close to 90 mph before going into the last two turns. As you can see, my '87 had ZERO rear bump-steer. ;-)
I was too busy looking at where he was due to his proximatey this time but in the past I can come out of turn 2 at 60 and hold 3 and 4 at 60. I was probably slightly faster with this setup on the turns hence the understeer. The track isn't exactly a nice surface though because it gets dug up from the demolition derbies-type stuff they do and cars running on rims with no rubber chew it up.

The final two cars run 2 laps. They usually get over 40 cars entering, I've been there one year for 108 cars. I've taken 4th place on several occassions with my various Fieros...
It's $25 which is the cost of the pit-pass for the track, hence free. They only do it 4 times a year, their "Thrill Show" www.seekonkspeedway.com The event is the Spectator Drags...

Still a great run and I hope you win in the rematch.
An 1/8 mile race it a different matter all together because some cars don't get into their engine+tranny combination's powerband until later. I can beat alot of cars on the 1/8th and still get embarrassed by them on the 1/4th....
My original 3.x stroker would beat the origninal (200hp) VTEC Honda Preludes on the 1/8...but not on the 1/4th...
