I have this rust bucket, but no 4.9. It is past due to be transferred to a chopped 88 chassis with a modified Yamaha SHO engine. To many irons in the fire at this time, but I keep thinking there needs to be a set of molds made during the transfer. It is a head turner.
A man who has had several Ferraris restored, followed me for 4 states in his Porsche as I was bringing this car back from Conn. He kept taking pictures of it on the trailer and trying to buy it at every stop I made. I had hoped he would leave with a story of how he saw a 288 on a trailer and it would make his day, but he didn't because we were both going home to Alabama. After I finally told him it was a replica, we had a good laugh and he still offered me twice what I had just paid for it. Post some pictures if you can.
From what I understand, a person by the name of Jim Carpenter created the replica 288 GTO bodies back in the day. He got into legal issues though (sued by Ferrari), and VERY few of these bodies are in existence (in comparison to other kit cars).
The 288 GTO is one of my favorite Ferraris, so you'll have to excuse me if I'm somewhat excited to see this thread pop up.

That is one sweet looking car. Any other pics of it?

And it looks way more like a bubble top than Redline's, so I'd say yes. If not, maybe some work to the door panels to get the window glass shorter.

The chopped one (if it is really chopped) looks really good !
If it were mine i might tweek it a little further by lowering it slightly more in the rear and adding a widebody hip on the back. It would then look something like this.

My car still has the rusted out 87 chassis and here is how it sits today. Northern car.
The first picture posted was already in my photobucket album and yes that is a simulated chop. In person you really don’t notice the factory roofline as the body lines match it quiet well and keep your eyes busy. Photos really make a bubble out of it. I have 3 sets of windows from Archie, and hope to find time to use them before I die of old age.
Someone spent a lot of money customizing that Nakamura 308. No doubt, that is one of a kind and requires a second checking account to drive it hard.
Hopefully, Captain Midnight has some pictures to post.

No, the only thing chopped is the first picture itself. Several friends had asked me what it will look like when completed, so I chopped the top in several pictures for them and loaded them to Photobucket. The second photo was uploaded today and hasn’t been altered.
Sorry for the confusion, I didn’t intend to hijack the tread.

I always liked the Alden Thomas 288 GTO kit wish it was still available
+1 they were the first ones to get shut down by Ferrari.

288 was always my favorite Ferrari. Follow that with 308/ 328. In older ones, I like the 62 GTO too. They made a nice body kit for it to fit a 240-280 Nissan Z. Last real one sold for something like $12 million according to Forza Magazine (Ferrari).
