Has anyone used Mr. Mikes Seat Covers? I'm considering making a purchase but I want to know how they look after they've been installed for a while. I was looking at a Fiero on ebay recently that had Mr Mikes seat covers and the bottom portion of the seat area appeared to be loose like a seat cover from Wal-Mart would look.
I've only ever heard good reviews of Mr Mike's seat upholstery. Remember though that you install them yourself so how good they look also depends on how much time you put forward to doing it right. Sounds like whoever did the seats in that ebay car got lazy.

From what I've seen, initial quality and fit looks amazing.
For long term durability, I dunno. I've seen some seats with a good amount of wear. More recently I'm recalling a member's covers that were for sale with a few small parts of the piping on the sizes not holding up- and the stitching of the Fiero badges in the upper center portion of the cover was almost completely gone.
I have several sets of leather covers from Mr Mike and like them enough to put them in my Mera showcars. The bottoms are quite tight when properly installed per his instructions. I have won a few large show divisions and am certain that they helped. The key is how you add new foam, padding, and take care installing the covers.

exactly... I have not personally had had Mr mikes covers yet, but I may soon!.. However, I have seen them and they look good.
To add to the above...As someone who had installed my own custom seat covers and then seen those same covers installed by someone else... I can say with 100% certainty that what you saw was a bad owner install job. I was asked many times what shop did my seats because they were so perfectly fit... I had people offering me a job covering theirs.... Its all in the effort you put in when covering the seats, be it shop installed or owner installed...
Here are my seats that I recovered on my firebirds site.... the site is very falkey with my pics... hope they show up right... Cardomain has had some massive issues with my pics in the past, but it will give you an idea...
Now on to the BAD... the folowing covers were made by the same complany that made mine above, so i knows its not teh covers, but the install job!
the tan and black are done in house at a place that parts out f-bodies. They did have an upholstery shop doing it, but decided the cost was not worth it and started doing it themselves. Well it was all well and good until they decided it was easier to spray glue the bottom cushions to the foam instead of using all those darn time consuming hog rings... notice the wrinkling… these are FRESH covers mind you!
Ok from another source...They did not pull the covers tight enough. No one has sat in them and stretched them out… notice the wrinkling even in the passenger seats…
on the red and black… see the red section on the lower cushion. Its not even staying down like its supposed to. Someone did not use the hog rings right.

Stop considering and start buying Mr. Mike sells an outstanding product, plus he's great to deal with. I have the "leatherette" covers in my 86 for a few years now, and they still look new. Be patient when installing, and follow the instructions to the letter and you'll end up with great seats.

I have installed 2 sets of his leather seat covers. You will not find a better product and Mike is very easy to deal with. The set in my car have been installed for 6 years and still look great .

I have a set of Mr. Mikes leather covers and installed them myself. I did the install outside on a warm day and they came out quite well. It took a while, just because it was my first effort. A DVD of how to do it was included with the purchase.

As mentioned, the final quality of installation is up to YOU
Mike did new Indy seats for me a couple years back (I found OEM fabric - none left)
Sorry for the hijack!
OK that settled it... when I get my red fabric from a donor.... (mine have burns on the lower cushions thanks to the previous owner)... mine are going to Mr. Mike for a fix... My lleather is completely shot
I see you say you have none, but where did you get teh OEM fabic... did they use it in any other cars? What did it cost yah to have him fix them?

several of you say "leather" did you get the real leather or the leather-ette AKA simulated leather? I would like the real leather but will probably have to settle for the 400 ette version. Just curious which ones you really got.

I believe MM now also offers cloth+leather as an option. When I got my MM back in '04, he only offered leather. Being in Texas, and if I had to do it over again, I would probably do a leather/cloth combo. I think it looks great, and give a nice tactile experience.
His products are top notch, and I have his leathers in both of my Fiero's, and he has done visors in one and the steering wheel on the other.
This car I bought recently has MM leather that is 10 years old, and was driven daily for quite a few of those. MM did the seats and wheel.
And when I did the install on my other Fiero back in '04, I had a screwdriver in my back pocket that scratched one of my seat bottoms. It was totally my fault. I emailed Mike, and sent him the 'scratched' leather bottom, and I got it back a couple weeks later. No charge.

Mike doesn't 'fix' and only uses new materials (ie: he won't use your old Indy fabric)
I found some NEW Indy fabric (in 2006 - no longer available) that I had sent to Mr Mikes. Seats cost the same.
Dang... I was going to send mine and another set for him to put together... oh well... looks like I will have to stick with the local scam artists... $1000.00 to fix both seats, if I bring them everything and they only replace the "leather" parts... ugh! I can get all leather seats for that!
We've have/had 3 sets of Mr. Mikes seats, and we've been thrilled with every one of them!! This was our first set:
We sold these (wished now I'd of kept them!!), when we did there was some slight wear on the seat bottom, if you could call it that, more like tiny wrinkles in the leather, not really scuffed or anything, probably needed some leather care! But they'd been in the car for a good 3 years or more with constant usage.
This is the set for Max's ZR2, it shows some signs of wrinkling because we didn't use enough padding, so we took them apart and added more:
I'm sure Mr. Mike remembers me fondly... laugh... He kept telling me no, I couldn't have it that way.. (Max's ZR2, I wanted blue in the center with silver on the outside, I think there wasn't enough of the silver material to do that with, and he really wasn't sure about the purple piping trim) but we did finally come up with a color scheme I could accept & it turned out really great even with the purple.. and yes, I know that the seats for my car are rather bright... but I really like my car, and it draws a lot of attention!!

I ordered mine today. I'm getting the leather "semi-sport" style in Dark Gray with Red inserts, Red piping and the Red Fiero Logo. Can't wait to get them.

I have Mike's skins on my 88 GT''s seats. He sends along some cotton like stuffing that will take out any wrinkles. I wasn't happy with the original seat foams and bought some in much better shape. So the skins have been installed twice. The second time, I added in a little lumbar foam, and now I really like the way they hit me in the lower back. I wouldn't consider anything less than Mr. Mike's.

I think this is the first time I posted my finished product and man does it look snaazzzzzy.
Not to hate on anybody elses seats but I can honestly say that I still love mine the best out of all of these. I spent a lot of time deciding on a design and it shows. Thanks for everything MrMike. I am soooo happy with the purchase....my interior looks near perfect. All that's left to restore is the firewall vinyl covering and the headliner and it will be perfect. I also purchased MrMikes sunvisors and sent my cores back. The new ones look great!

If only the best will do then you found the right company. MrMikes is not only best fiero seat covers but makes probably best seat covers in every model he makes.

Not to hijack thread but, bdub your interior will never be perfect without one of my cupholders, console doors or both. Now, back to the praise of Mr. Mike. What can I say, the man stepped in and provided seat covers in vinyl, when those of us who needed quality at a lesser price were left with no options. I was very pleased with mine. Mike

I think the answer to your question is technically both since some of them while the fronts were indeed real leather, the backs may have been leatherette.
Both our sets were leather, but I believe that Max's seats (blue & silver) the backs were leatherette due to the fact that you couldn't get a big enough piece of leather in those colors to do the seat completely in leather. But the first set was completely in leather since that's all he offered back in those days...
My 88 has black leatherette on the back.
Thing is it is very difficult to tell the difference between the two, other than the leather may have minor flaws and blemishes in the grain that the leatherette doesn't have. Plus leather needs special care to keep it supple. But I'm sure Mr. Mike can answer any questions you or anyone else may have on it.

Technically it doesn't matter whether you do or don't like anybody else's seats, what matters is that you like yours!! I've always liked the tan colored interior but we've never gotten a fiero with that option and it's a lot of work to switch an interior over.... Personally I didn't want my seat covers to look like anybody else's making mine unique.
Oh yes, Mr. Mike also supplied us with the leather to do Max's ZR2 doors... which turned out rather well since we had limited amounts to work with... we had a local tailor do the sewing for us, and he's recovered several sets of sun visors for us in soft cloth to match the headliners. ------------------

"The seat surface where you sit is all leather, as represented here by the shaded areas. The white areas are matching leather-ette. The use of matching leather-ette lowers the cost of the seat, retaining the comfort and durability of leather in the areas where it is needed most. And please note that the headrests are always leather too, even though one normally does not sit up there "
