This one went a slightly different route than most, but nothing too fancy or over the top:
This picture shows (or doesn't show) the cover for the bulkhead connectors... everything ran out the bottom of the cover plate:
Here is the routing of the fuel lines (fuel filter by tank) and the conduit used for the chassis side of the 500 harness... painted to match the firewall and blend in.

In this photo, looks like the 4.9 is coupled to the Izusu 5sp, Is this a good combination? I also take it that's a direct bolt on too.
I'm asking because I'm considering this same swap for my 84.

It's better then the Muncie 4-speed or Getrag 5-speed because of the lower final drive, which suits the low-end torque of the 4.9 better, but its way too weak in my opinion. This is why I went automatic with my swap. I would break that Isuzu. First is way too short anyway.

It's better then the Muncie 4-speed or Getrag 5-speed because of the lower final drive, which suits the low-end torque of the 4.9 better, but its way too weak in my opinion. This is why I went automatic with my swap. I would break that Isuzu. First is way too short anyway.

I'll keep this advise in mind when I finally get around to do it. First I'd planned to change over my original 4sp in the 84, to a Isuzu 5sp.
I maybe developing engine problems with the duke, so I figured I'd change out everything at that time.

It depends entirely on what you build the car for. This particular car was built for cruising, not 1/4 mile performance. The owner wanted the Isuzu to optimize the fuel efficiency of the swap while still being able to row the gears... plus it came with the chassis so it was also the cheapest route.
Sure 2nd gear can be weak if you like to do burnouts, drag race or be a street racer, and 5th gear can be pushed out the end of the case at 135 mph (with a 2.8)... but it all boils down to how the owner plans to drive the car and what they want.
I have ran the Isuzu behind my 4.5L build back in 2002 and behind a SBC (283 whp/317wtq) without any failures, but did switch the SBC car to a getrag for more piece of mind (plus I was planning to tow a trailer from WI to FL and 5th gear in the isuzu is very, very tiny).

I just wanted a good cruiser, with a nice V8 rumble. (something I've dreamed about since the first day I bought the car, back in the Summer of '84) (a matter of fact, the first thought that entered my head after looking at the Duke, Humm I'll bet a sbc will fit in there... ) I do plan on some spirited driving, but not like a racer. I'm more about handling, but want extra UMP that a V8 supplies!
I'm currently working on a 3800sc/Isuzu5sp swap for a show 'N' Go type car. Mostly for car shows and cruisin', want to do a little Auto Cross with it too. Oops! I'm beginning to get slightly off topic, Sorry about that.

I believe so. IIRC, the filter was made for a 4 barrel. Fit right on. Seems like there may have been a ring that went between the TB and the filter base, but it was just to raise the base. It wasn't a reducer or any other kind of adapter.
Edit - If you decide to go this route, don't buy a filter that requires a plastic spacer or adapter. They'll melt. Don't ask how I know this.

I also have a filter like that that I use when slalom or other race - needs a spacer underneath, I found mine (metal) in the junk yard off a Astro mini van (don't recall the year or engine) - there are different heights as well, I think the one I am using is 1.5" tall.

TB size on a 4.9 is 5 1/8". Its pretty standard on alot of carb engines. The choices are actually quite staggering. You can even build your own using off the shelf parts from summit and the like. Make sure to get the raised base if you go this route or use a spacer. 4.1 caddy's or like MR Moose said chevy astro van have them. The astro one usually have a breather tube added which works perfect with the valve cover breather tube.

It really would be nice to have an Allante intake setup...but I don't think it's worth the hassle of redoing all the swap parts, and all the tuning issues.

Sorry for the late response to the question... It just bolts on. The rocker supports have to be removed anyway, so it's a good idea to use the ones from the Allante. Try to grab 'em from the donor when you get the intake. The IAT and MAP sensor wiring will need to be extended. The TPS wiring will need to be extended, and repinned. (The 4.9 TPS has the wiper in the center. The Allante TPS has the wiper at one end.) The chip will need some reprogramming. Most notably, the VE vs IAT temp tables. The Allante IAT sensor is in the plenum, where the 4.9 IAT is in the lower intake. The 4.9 program is looking for much warmer air than it will see with the Allante setup. This will cause the engine to run waaaaay too rich.
I can answer specific questions if you have them. (Since the pics were taken I have also switched to a manual tranny.)
