Were the grey bits in the Indy interiors the same color as the grey bits in the normal 84 interiors? For instance, were the grey seat recline mechanism covers the same in both?

Great question from what I seen I think the grays were the same color if I am not mistaken.

Iv'e always wondered what color the pace car's leather steering wheel and shift knob were. They looked like they were white, but I've heard they were light grey. My leather bits were missing from the day I got the car.

The seats and carpets, arm rests, steering wheel (with center emblem) and Shift knob are the only unique items to the Indy as far as I know.

Yes all standard parts were the same grey even for the 1985 even the dash until it changed in late 85 to a slightly different grey and deeper blue. . Rick B

Nice...that will make it easier to locate the seat mechinism cover I need!

As for the leather steering wheel and shifter, they are a vvery light shade of gray. Dallas Steering Wheel does a very nice wheel and Russ88Ttop...well you can't beat his shifters!

I think it was called Dove gray but don't hold me to that. Other issue is the seat covers tab is always broken off so finding any color and painting it would be a good idea. One of these days I need to get all of the Indy color codes for my web page. I always think about it but never get to it. Rick B

Exterior:
40C - White - 3680 - WA-8554
Lower Accent
18 - Medium Gray Poly - 3603

Interior:
12DN - Graphite - 33622 - 2-1020

I took the light slate gray code to an auto paint store once and had them mix some up, PERFECT match.

Sweet! There's a picture in that link you can use, too, of the paint chips. I was going to post it here, but their site doesn't like Linux, apparently. Here's another from the archives:

The light slate gray looks more like the later color. Is this supposed to be the steering wheel and seat gray? Rick B

The light slate gray is definitely the earlier 84-85 interior gray. It's the color of the light gray parts of the interior, the plastic and vinyl parts, the lower dash, door panels, a and b-pillar trim, seatbelt mechanism cover, rear center console with the storage compartment, etc.

One item to consider is that the Indy had the dark graphite gauge, HVAC, and shifter bezels. At some point in late 84, early 85 the bezels were a more medium color. And in 86 and 87 the bezels were a light shade of graphite.

I realize this is off topic from the OP, but if Rick is listing code information for the Pace Car website, here are the paints codes that I have used to match the Indy valve cover and air cleaner paint.

For quality Auto Paint, It is a Chrysler color, CA1 Radiant Silver
Chrysler Code DT 9049
PPG Code 3556

Duplicolor makes a spray can version in either codes:

DSCC 338 Radiant Silver
DSGM 340 Silver Metallic

Thanks Guys and Fred I also used this Duplicolor to get a pretty nice match. I wonder if the non aged look is the Duplicolor match or maybe more of a aged match?? I do not think anyone looking at them could tell but I would like to try the colors you mentioned also. Rick B
