Yeah, drifting might be fun, but it sure is a slow way to go around a corner. At least the way they're doing it. I know it's not about how fast you can go around the corner.. and to me, I guess that's one reason I'd consider it rice. Racing, IMO, has always been about who can get there fastest. Drifting isn't about that.
If drifting was real racing... you'd see it in a lot of professional races. Ok, there's drifting in Sprint Cars, but that's about all I can think of at the moment. And when they do it, it's about getting around the corner as fast as possible, not trying to earn "style" points.
Guess I'm just old and out of touch with today's kids. That's ok. I'm sure my elders thought the same about me when I was a teenage puke.

Thats one big smoke show! That stunt guy is friggin crazy, I wouldn't advise hanging out of a car while its drifting like that haha or being that close to them. One mistake and its lights out, lol. Nonetheless, it still looks pretty cool and you would have to have good control over your car to maintain controlled drifts in different directions. It may be part of "rice culture" but it still requires skill and practice... and a nice car
I wouldn't call it rice. You might offend some of the possible asian community that visits this board. I would hate for anyone to recieve negative ratings because someone sees the term rice as a Racial slur.
Hey this is just what I have been told by other forum members here. i guess they have "seniority" over me.

I think most Asians would understand where the term rice is comming from in this instance. No need to take political correctness to the extreme.

THANKS CRZYONE!!!!
In defense, I was using the term "Rice", not to throw racial slurs, but to define an import car culture. This was just a thread to show some crazy people (by using the term "crazy" in no way stereotypes any said person or compares the same to the mentally disturbed) doing some wild and crazy things with there cars. Again, the term "wild and crazy" only reflects what was being done in the cars and in no why was defining or stereotyping any person.

Has anyone seen the vid of the yellow Supra drifting around a racetrack? It's definitely worth seeing. I'll see if I can find it if somebody can host it.

Damn Steve... you need to get a life! Move on! Learn something Someday you may actually figure out that trying to deface other PFF members in O/T for something that you started in GFC really isn't appropriate...
For anyone who is interested in formulating their own opinion about whatever BS this fool is tossing around, read it for yourself and let him know what you think: https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/038178.html He obviously didn't get any support for is opinions over there... so now he's reaching for it elsewhere.

rice is a car that looks better than it is. the opposite of a sleeper. a good example would be stock civic with 3 grand in ground effects, wings, and paint and no modifications to the engine

Steve, GIVE IT UP!!!! Dude, it is time to give it up and move on. Please, this rambling that you call talking is getting old. Normally I don't go after a single person, it doesn't do any good, but you have insulted Rob, Oslo, and countless other people that are my friends. You have to realize something Steve, this is not like any other message board on the 'net. We are almost like a family here, and what you say or have said will follow you around, like it or not. Sorry man, but that's just the way it is around here.
I hope in the future you start thinking before you say [or type as it may] something
Eric

Bashing highly respected individuals of the fiero forum won't get you very far....

Oh look! It's my bestest friend steve! Ok, A. You REALLY need to get over this thing, I mean really. You have brought it up in like 5 threads now? B. You did not gain a lot of supporters in the original "offending" post, and you only have yourself to blame for that. C. If you expect to stay, your best bet would be to shut the hell up on the subject, not talk about individuals such as MinnGreen and myself, and try to be more constructive in your posts.
Thanks, have a good night, be sure to tip your waitress!
And yah, that video is pretty sweet. I saw it a while ago on another site.

This is something that has been beat to death over the years. This isnt the first and wont be the last... Just people NEED to be educated on what the term "RICE" is.....Its NO racial slur. That term is for no ONE it is the vehicle they drive and what they have done. I.E. TYPE R BADGES ON A HONDA ACCORD!!!!! Get it right or dont talk about it. PERIOD!!!! By calling the cars in this video "rice" your basically calling NASCAR and drag cars "rice". They can talk the talk AND walk the walk. So lets let this die in this thread and lts talk about the damn video.....
there was a thread on the meaning of "Rice" out here not too long ago. it was determined that anything done in dis-taste is considered "rice", i.e those 6 foot wings on your honda civic or neon. rice was originally an import thing, but then people that had ford probes, neons, sunfires, a dodge stratus (4 door, ugh) started putting 6 inch mufflers on their car, big stickers that had nothing to do with the make, model, or even the mods actually done to that car, big ugly fins, and just generally painting their brand new 2000 hondas primer grey.
the cars in that video, were NOT rice in any shape, form or fashion. those are highly skilled drivers, in very tuned machines, with parts provided to them by their sponsors, hence the stickers. you dont see people calling nascar a buncha ricers for having stickers all over the car do ya? no. that IS their nascar, drifting events like that, and personally i enjoyed that video VERY much. it gives me something to shoot for in my skill level as a driver. i wish my fiero were so highly tuned. i would not be ashamed to own any one of those cars, because i know that its got the power to back up its gawdy appearence.
so enough with the whole dam racial thing, if youve got an exhaust tip bigger around than your head guess what? YOUR RICE. end of story.

Steve, Everywere I look on this forum there you are, ranting about this same old thing! Let it go and move on with your life it is not heathy to obbcess on somthing like this for so long.
Just for clarification... I simply stated in another thread that Steve was using the term "ricer" in a derragatory manner - and that it could be seen as a slur. Steve is simply trying to make himself look like a victim instead of the instigator that he is.
As for the video - it is pretty sweet what those guys do... not my style, but pretty cool. A lot of the newer (import/sportcompact) magazines are covering the new US "drifting" events. Apparently they are judged on skill and "aesthetics" of their drifts. Sounds a bit odd to me, as I've been trying my best to get through corners on the local kart track without drifiting them, but it does make for a pretty interesting spectator event!

I guess you have never heard of something called WRC, (World Rally Championship), now that's drifting at the highest level.
