Some of you had asked if i had pictures of the car. I got some so here they are. Theres a picture of the car still against the pole on the front page of the local paper and if i can get my neighbor to scan it for me ill try to put it up later on, maybe tomorrow.
This is where I was sitting, right behind the driver. You can see my sneaker wedged in there. The floor accordioned and crushed my shoe into it.
Here are the skidmarks leading up to the pole. If you follow them exactly the car would have did a headon. But when it hit the dirt, the back end kicked around and thats how we went sideways into it.

Holy crap!! And your still alive?? Dude, someone is lookin out for you BIG TIME. Does it hurt looking back at the photos? I've always wondered if being hurt so badly, and then coming back and looking at the photos did anything mentally or physically.

Wow, buddy, glad to see you survived that pretty much intact. Bones heal...please remember this lesson the rest of your (hopefully long) life. You dodged a bullet there.

Holy shnikeys. That should buff right out. In all seriousness, it's good to see that you made it out of there in one piece man. How exactly did you manage to leave the road on that straight?
Steve, looking at that car, I'm surprised anyone made it out alive. It was a 2000 Sunfire wasn't it? Scary, that's what my daughter drives. You should count your lucky stars!

I am still feeling numb and cold..You´d better be careful from now on...if you were a cat,I guess you would only have the life you have ,left.. To all you "Racers"..is it worth your ego to take a chance like this?? And this was on a straight road..My sadness at this carnage cannot be put into words.I am so happy that you survived..but my condolences must go to the other unfortunate casualty. Please Folks, let´s hope this is the last time photos of this nature will be posted on this Forum. fierofetish

Unbelieveable damage. Looking at the skid marks makes me think the driver was breaking for some activity at the intersection. Either someone stopped to turn or someone pulling out of the side road. Another point, most people don't realise, is 4 people add a considerable amount of weight to a car, effecting breaking. You are very lucky to be with us.

First off let me say i'm glad your recovery is going good . Man you are so lucky to be alive! What was the driver thinking speeding like that with 4 people in the car on a road like that? I know i do my fair share but i'm solo when that happens. Maybe just young and stupid i guess, although i can't say to much "been there done that". I guess it really does take getting older to see the stupidy of our actions when we were young. So which seat were you in and did you have your seatbelt on ?

Unbelievable. Simply unbelievable that anyone survived! We still must remember that at least one young person did not My prayers also go out to her and her family.
As everyone else has already said, you are one very lucky person. We hope your recovery continues to go as well as it has But.... remember that day well for as long as you live so you can hopefully avoid it ever happening to you again as well as maybe even help keep it from happening to someone you know.

You mentioned a sneaker, but try as I might, I can't identify enough parts in the photos to tell what is what. It's too messed up for me to think of it in terms of being a car. I imagine this is what a car would look like if it ran through a blender.
Originally posted by TaurusThug: why did it go sideways THAT FAST???
We(my family) isnt sure why it spun on its side. The only thing my dad and I can come up with is that one of the front wheels was skidding and when it hit the dirt it caught and the car swung around.

Not at all. I think its because i dont remember any of the accident; or most of the day for that matter. I remember up till about 1130 or so on Monday (day of the accident) and then i dont remember a thing until Tuesday or Wednesday (the days in the hospital kind of blended all together).

Since I don't remember anything I couldnt tell you. But the guy who was in the back with me remembers everything and he says the driver was just screwing around at high speeds.

Everyone was except the driver.
fierogirls-mom - It was a 2000 Sunfire. I also wanted to thank you for the card you sent.

I was in the back behind the driver. Yes, my seatbelt was on. I always put it on its a reflex.

How close were you to the friend that died?
If you follow the line of the seatback straight down you can kind of make out the Adidas logo on the heal of the shoe.
I wasn't really close with her. But we had talked before and were pretty friendly. She was also my neighbor from up the street.

WOW Thats freaking insane.. Sheep glad your ok man.. but... The pole being there is Murphy's law in work.. I don't know how many times I've seen this happen.. Three times for myself, But Lone objects like that act like magnets in an accident. Be it a pole out of nowhere, a single house on a country road, one tree in the middle of a Field, even a mail box with nothing around. If your going to slide off the road these items always seem to be the stopping points. Very seldom do you miss them, it always seems like the car wanted to heard right for them! (reason I have removed two front ends on the 308) So weird.. But man... hope this acted as a lesson to everyone. Not scared, just wizened up everyone. After I had the same thing happen with people in the car (not as bad though) I Vowed to never go really fast with anyone else in the car (does mess with the handling) and this is why I never took anyone above 100 in my Pantera. Though I did make a few passes at near 200mph with others driving by me alone LOL.. Just be safe!!!!!!!

Holy Sheep! I found your sneaker and I'm wondering how they got your foot out of it.
On a side note, not all of that damage is from the crash. The fire department rips through anything they have to to get to you. They least they did was cut the roof off, and I'm sure they tore up more stuff than that. The people are the priority, and its not like the car was savable at that point.

That's been my observation over the period too. Really strange how that works out.
Thanks for the pictures, wow...
Sorry you had to go through that. Man you are one lucky sob to be posting after that crunch.
