I see trees. Come along and some chain sounds like a plan.Or wait for summer. You can also use a tall 4x4 jeep jack and then put some long thick boards under the tires and drive to solid ground.Best and easiest is to have another truck pull you out.
BTW you guys look like pigs.

only problem with all of these "good things" 1. they cost, and i am currently broke AND replacing clutch on fiero... 2. this truck is on its way out, just had brakelines replaced for like $450 and dont want to put any more money into it. im gonna borrow one of those come along things (like a manual winch right?) and well try again tomorrow...

If I lived closer I would bring my 94 GMC Jimmy 4x4 and pull you out. I have some lift and some mud tires. I've been in mud like that before and havent gotten stuck.
Ya know, sometimes the difference between being stuck, or being on your way, are the two bird lovers in the back of the truck. Don't make it worse by burning your clutch up.

doesn't look that deep really, find somebody else with a truck better equipped than yours, buy em some beer
I was stuck worse than that and a case of beer got me out just like you said. It took a truck with a winch pulling and me pushing the truck out at the same time to get it out. and I had my front bumper submerged!! there was about 6" of water and mud in the cab. Man did I feel like a but.

I moved a truck sideways 20 feet once, to get it to solid ground. Get a handiman jack. Jack up the back. Kick it sideways off the jack. Jack up the front. Kick it sideways off the jack. Keep this up until you get to solid ground. (If the jack sinks in the mud, put blocks or rocks under it.)
~or~
Cut down a bunch trees. Build a runway. Jack up the Truck and set it on the runway. Giver Hell!
WARNINGS! USING A HANDIMAN JACK IN MUD IS DANGEROUS! It can slip and/or kick-out and KILL you! KICKING A HANDIMAN JACK SIDEWAYS IS DANGEROUS! It can break bones and/or KILL you! PUTTING TREES OR ANY OBJECT UNDER YOUR SPINNING TIRES IS DANGEROUS! They can be ejected and KILL you! PUTTING ANYTHING UNDER YOUR HANDIMAN JACK IS DANGEROUS! The objects under the jack can shift and the jack can KILL you!
If any of this sounds above you ability, or to risky to your wellbeing, DO NOT ATTEMPT!

One time some friends & I were out late(early 5 a.m. lol almost sunrise) driving and we saw a mustang with the rear in the ditch and halfway in the tiny road. :WTf: Comes to find out they had to turn around and decided to do it on this TINY road that barely fits a car and thats how they got stuck. We helped them, back end was completely sunk in the mud/dirt from the rear tires to almost the tail lights.
We grabbed up a bunch of grass or w/e and threw it near the tires to make the ground not so wet. Then we laid some thick debris(rocks, THICK WIDE branches and a board we found) and jacked up the car on that side. Through down more debris under the tires and anything flat we could find, on the other tire we couldn't find another board so we used a bunch of branches.
Then he got it!!!!! But then the stupid kid didn't know how to drive a manual real good and ROLLED BACK INTO THE DITCH!!!!!!!!!! I, my friends, and his friends almost choked him cause we were screaming BRAKES!!!!! Well I hope that helps I felt like sharing again lol.

Thats why real offroaders have winches. You can get a come-a-long for less than $20. They even have them at Odd Lots. They will pull you 15-20 feet at a time. Make sure you got solid mount at both ends, you dont want it to pop off....very bad thing.
and lastly. Dont play if you cant pay. Serious off roading, drag racing, racing are not for those that cant afford it.

Haha nice 1 man. I remember last year I went up to north georgia with my Dad offroading and we got his '89 Suzuki Sidekick 4x4 stuck in a 4 ft. deep mudhole. There was muddy water up in the floorboards and stuff. We were lucky the engine didn't die. We eventually got it out by rocking it back and forth by shifting between drive and reverse. Very fun I would do it again. We had a winch but there were no trees close enough to help us. Good thing you got it out ok.

My rule of off-roading when solo is simple, go only as far as two wheel drive will take you and then if stuck, hope that 4x4 will get you back on the road home. Learned it the hard way on a forest service road way up behind Heavenly Ski Resort when I barely got over a rock slide in my way but couldn't get back until I did a major road renovation. No landowner to deal with, but navigating down the dark road which was scary in broad daylight was enough for me to adjust my solo 4x4 adventure standards.
Of course that would not begin to play in this situation, partying with friends slamming around in the deep muck with tires that would spin on a slick road! Fun gets in the way of all kinds of common sense, but then it wouldn't be fun. At least you got your truck out in one piece, no cops or trespass citations either!
In regards to winches, you got to have a means of attaching it to whatever, including the ground or they are about useless. Trees have a way of not being close enough or in the right direction. Block and tackle helps as well. Seen enough winch rescues on the Rubicon and other wickedly fun trails in the Sierra Nevada.

ah yes, but there is a line he massively crossed and started yelling at me (and BOY was i on my best behavior...) and telling me how big he is and how many people know him and i dont want to f*** with him and i just kept saying "yes, i understand" and that the truck is on his prop and he can dig an effin hole and bury it (boy i ALMOST snapped and it wouldnt have been pretty.) and then he said he only wants me to do 2 things for getting me out, 1 cut the mohawk (little does he know i have a job interview tomorrow for a 2nd job and was gonna anyways....) 2 get rid of piercings. i took a deep breath , and said i wont do the second one. they are a part of me (and its not like i have tons...) and he started with im so big and everyone knows me and this and that...i stood my ground, had he tried anything else the results would not have been pretty. glad it didnt come to that. so i cut the hair in a few mins anyways..... alls well that ends well.

IF you were on my property, without permission, and I didn't know you, and you just buried your truck, you'd be using a cellphone to call for a ride home OR you'd be walking. You would'nt be getting your truck back anytime soon either. It would be staying right where it was until we came to an arrangement. I wouldn't have called you names, or told you what a bigshot I was, I'd have just ordered you to leave my property and if you didn't, I'd call the sheriff and have you removed for trespassing. Depending on what your attitude was I might or might not press charges.
The farmer was probably in about the same humor I am with trespassers. I've had cattle shot, fences torn down, trash thrown all over, all by people trespassing. For some reason it seems that when it comes to rural property, private property rights get ignored by those that don't have any.
How neat would you think it was if I just showed up with my tractor on a muddy day and did a few kitties on your front lawn?
If somebody wants to hunt or off road on 4 wheelers, etc., and they show the common courtesy to ASK PERMISSION, 9 out of 10 times they'll get permission. If I catch you without permission, your butt is mine.

If you get a truck stuck all you really need is a 1991 Cavalier and a ballsy friend...
My friend Marc got his 97 Dodge Dakota stuck on some back trails in CRE (that is for those who are familiar with Southern Maryland) which is basically all hills. Anyways we called up a friend with a truck and asked him to come out. So about 10 min later he rolls out in his Cavy... But I must say he was able to pull the truck out... Now that there is funny right there

**** him.. He wants you to cut your mohawk and take out your piercings to get your truck out? He's just on a powertrip.. And no, he can't take your truck cause it's on his property.. At leats not here. If he can, you have really screwed up laws. You could sue his ass for that.
A friend of mine had a truck just like that, the only difference is that he has better tires. put some tires with meaty tread on it and you wont have much of a problem again. Brad

just wanted to respond to what you said.... 1.i did get a ride home. then called guy and he said same stuff i said before, but i let it slide because i know i was in the wrong (and he had my truck...) 2. i did leave the prop (he didnt see truck till next day, this happened at night..) 3. i kept quiet and let him blow off steam, again i know i was in the wrong , but there is understandably mad, and just plain "do you know who i am?", "ill make sure you never work in this town again" and "youre stupid" (yes his exact words too...) 4. jstricker, you seem like you wouldve handled it a bit more sensibly and humaine. this guy went WAY beyond that. again i agree he had every right to be angry but he majorly crossed that line. (by the way it took the guy 2 sec to pull me out AND i was actually on a trail that was already there....)

I agree that if things happened as you described the guy was a butthead. If it were the umpteenth time I'd caught you offroading on my property without permission, you wouldn't want to be around me when I lose it either, but for the first time I'd just try to teach you a bit of a lesson on where you can, and can't, go. And that lesson doesn't have to be taught by swearing and threatening.
Other than you being where you shouldn't have, it seems like you handled it very maturely and if you acted that way with me, you'd have some slack cut. The important thing for me would be did you admit you were wrong and did you act respectfully? It sounds like you did both of those things so you get, more or less, a pass on the first transgression. I'd probably even tell you that NEXT time you wanted to stir up some mud, come see me first and I'd take you out with the 4 wheeler and show you where you can and can't go.
John Stricker
PS: cutting your mohawk? I didn't know how you wore your hair had a bearing on how you acted. Those evil hair follicles were influencing you again?

eh, i dont completly agree with the 2wd statement. just make sure where you are off-roading that you have cell phone reception (or within reasonable walking distance to it) and make sure you have a buddy sittin around doing nothing that night with a truck! when we got my buddies xterra stuck, thats exactly what we did. a trip to the bar that time for pullin us out, a case of beer a diffrent time.

I did qualify my statement by saying "solo" 4 wheeling. When in a group of well prepared off roaders, the rules change. When you run the Rubicon for example, you have guys with block, tackle, welders, and those jeep guys seem to always have a spare axle or two. There is no towing someone home.
I have pretty much gotten to just about anywhere I needed when soloing with a little ground clearance and some decent off road tread in 2 wheel mode with the 4x4 as a back-up. Mind you in the Sierra Nevada, it isn't slamming from one muddy rut to the other, but dodging and or climbing rocks and rocky grades. In any case, a cell phone is nice and that case a beer my be all you need to be drug out out of some mudhole, but the 4x4 wrecker that has to drive 20 miles up some crappy forest service road is going to want a few hundred bucks just to show up at the very minimum. I seen just as many truck broken in the boonies as I have seen wedged or highsided on some granite roadblock.
