Probably because somebody either rated him, or changed a rating for him. Either case will cause the rating system to re-evaluate his ratings. In his case, he had a total of 30 ratings of which only 5 were positive. The old rating system would not have banned him because he doesn't have 50 ratings yet. But the new speed-ban system thinks a 5:1 negative/positive ratio is enough reason to ban before the 50th rating is reached.
Fair? I have no idea since I have no idea what he did to deserve those negatives. Although if I look at who rated him negative, I can only conclude he must have done something because those people aren't usually throwing around negatives that easily.

I know where all my negatives came from. And I know why. BFD. I don't remember Roland. And I didn't rate him. I only neg people who call me names - or kill their parents.

btw, as much as people deny it... I KNOW people rate people for stupid reasons. Positively and negatively.
He doesn't like Bush! /Ban! - - - -
She's a girl! /Plus! + + + +
I mean seriously... The only reason to rate someone should be to say, "man, this person did something extraordinary today!" Like if they send you a free part. That deserves a plus. Or if they steal from someone. That deserves a minus.
Being so fickle with the ratings is NOT HELPING AT ALL.

You have both rated him, so you should really know.
Now THAT really says something. You two are asking why he's gone, but YOU were the ones who voted him off. So please tell us, WHY did you vote him off?

Based upon Cliff's numbers, apparently he pissed off 25 people enough to earn a negative vote. For the life of me I don't know what he did.

Judt for the record I will never rate anyone negative for a political point of view--that is their right. I will rate a negative for a flame or otherwise out of line or inflamatory point of view.
Trevor I just updated my rating to a + for ya. Hoenstly at time in the past, over a year ago I thought you tried to start wars, now you ask valid questions or add value to a thred.

This is my personal feeling, I don't rate people on what goes on in O/T. I know I can't dictate how others use 'the power', but what happens in O/T, should stay in O/T.

Hey( looking down at myself), I resemble that remark! Ah Ryan, do sending cookies and running the raffle count as a good deed?
Cuz, I know for darn sure, it isn't my looks or my charming personality that got me those pluses.

Absolutely! Although I think having answers to your questions in 0.1 seconds or less should be reward enough for those*.
*ahem... those DEEDS I mean.

Not to get off track but a friend of mine in high school killed his mother and step mother in a horrible way and they didn't find out till a year later. This is in the early 70's.

So since I have more red then my green is the next person to give me a rating gonna make it reevaluate my ratings and get me banned?
No. Having more red than green won't get you banned. It's all about ratios. Above 50 ratings, you need to have waaaaaaaaay more negatives than positives to get banned. Below 50 ratings, you need waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more negatives than positives to get speed-banned. See, there's a difference.
I just checked Roland's posts and I suspect he earned his negatives quite some time ago. It wasn't anything he had done lately that got him banned. Anyway. if I neutralize only two of his ratings (which was already requested through PM) and add a positive, that would be enough to keep him "unbanned" (I actually have to unban him manually, but the rating system won't ban him immediately again then).

Makes a good case for "AUTO EXPIRING" ratings. I mean if you cant remember then why have him rated either way? Since we rarely check over our ratings and "clean them up" it would make sense to have them auto expire after a period of time.

I'm going through my (short) negative rating list, making sure I don't have any unfair bad ratings.

Thank you for looking into this. I hope you will restore his account. I'd hate to see someone banned for no good reason. Most of his latest posts were showing a regular Fiero owner, like all of us, trying to keep his car on the road.
Hope more want to take off their bad rating for Roland & contact you.

Yes, yes they do. I checked my rating of you. Seems like you did not send enough cookies, I still have you as nuetral. I am changing it to a positive because they were very good.

My thoughts exactly.

So for being forgetful, we're "outed"?! (Not in so may words but the implication is there.) I was under the impression that ratings were supposed to be private. This could have been handled better through PM's. Don't you think?

Cliff's post got me to thinking, still not sure about this speed ban thing but regardless. I went back through all my ratings and if I couldn't remember exactly why I - somebody, they went back to a neutral. It was only fair. But I was happy to see that by a huge majority, over 90% of my ratings were +. Not gonna lie about it, I didn't change a few of my - ratings, flamers and personal attacks on virtually anyone will usually draw a neg. Adults disagreeing in a civil manner will get a +.
------------------ Ron Freedom isn't Free, it's paid for with the blood and dreams of those that have gone before us. My imagination is the only limiting factor to my Fiero. Well, there is that money issue.

What the hell are you talking about? "Outed"?
Someone asks why he is banned. Someone else replies "he is also at a loss". Since I have no frickin' clue who Roland is, I check his ratings. I notice you both have given him a rating (nowhere did I mention wether you rated him positive or negative) so I mention you should really know who he is. I mean, heck, if you don't know who he is, why would you even respond in this thread and why would you have rated him in the first place?
So who the hell is implying anything?
Geeeeeez. Try to help people. Thankful bunch here.

Someone disappears. I express that I don't understand why. You respond with a comment like "You rated him. You ought to know". That's not an implication? Sounds to me like, "You don't know? You helped."
If I read an incorrect meaning into your statement I apologize, but I'm not the only one who read it that way.
Sorry I brought it up.
