Hi all... i'll warn you this may be long and boring for some people but i have to vent. First off... thank you everybody who has helped me in my time of need. Rodney: you're the man!!! a life saver. GKDINC: you too man thank you! F-I-E-R-O: thanks again for the sig. DRA: What can i say? even though your having a rough time yourself you were willing to help me... that says alot. Whadeduck: Darn man... is there a limit to how big your heart is? I haven't seen it yet. the stuff your doing for DRA along with surge... just wow! Cliff Pennock: thanks for the right to use your forum and keeping it going for the rest of us... i know it's not easy. There are many more i would love to thank here idividually but overall this forum group is the best one i have ever belonged to. so if you didn't see your name please don't take it personally. I'm proud to tell people i belong to the PFF group. enough of the sappy crap... Just the other day i was almost begging people to help me find a job. Honestly i still haven't found a decent one. What i did recieve though is a free home from a close friend of mine. Her and her husband are looking for a house and they are giving me and my wife their trailer... ok it may not be much but from $1000 to $450 a month... it's a huge step in the right direction. i was almost to the point of having to sell my fiero to make ends meet. well from a 1 bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom singlewide... not bad in my opinion. Now i have an opportunity to take a lesser paying job at the local oil change place. granted it's not the best of jobs in the world but while we are paying less to live it'll be about the same as when i was working and i'll have a little extra to fix my car for the "Fiero's at the Glen" and the 25th. I honestly don't know what i did to deserve this good fortune but i know it wont change me. I might not be on the forum as much as i am now but i'll have a place to start my custom pieces for our cars i have in CAD drawings. That in it's self will make me happy. Now for the bad... The park i would be moving into has monster speed bumps so lowering my car is out of the question. The place is old and it does need some love. not too big of a problem other then the cost of materials. any carpet guys out there in the forum? Labor for the repairs are covered. Last but not least i'm not "allowed" to fix my car at all there. I'm going to talk to the owners to see if non-lube repairs and customizing is ok. i don't see why they would have a problem as long as i sign a liability waiver for them. We'll see. so... in conclusion thank you for all of your help and thank you for reading this. Jazzman: keep your head up man and stay social... you never know what will happen. Sometimes the decent people do get a break!

i've never installed linolem (spel??). the vinyl tiles aren't "bad" to work with and are pretty cheap. make sure the floor is perfectly clean and set the tiles down very carefully. i'd go with some nice 12 inch ceramic tiles for a kitchen. they are still pretty cheap and using mortar is a lot more forgiving than vinyl tiles. you will have to have something to cut them with, which can get pretty expensive. if you know somebody with a tile saw you'd be set. also depends on the layout of the kitchen. it its perfectly square and nothing to cut around you may be able to buy a hand tile breaker and go that way. if you have a lot of cutting you will need a saw.

sorry i guess i should ask what's on the floor now? if you go with ceramic you will need to lay backer board which is pretty expensive itself. if you have linolem now, and it doesn't have any cracks or tears in it, just paint it. get something like prep-sol, get it very clean, and paint it with some semi-gloss (color of you choice). its the cheapest way to go and looks good.

Glad to hear things are going a little better, hang in there and just keep trying to be the best person you can, things will eventually turn around. As far as working on the car, just be patient, chances are they will not let you work on it in the park and their reasoning will probably be if they let one then they will have to allow all. Maybe you can hook up with someone who has room at their place to do mods, maybe you'll be moving again sooner than you think! I'd be frugal with improvements, like I said, your situation may change again sooner than you think so don't sink to much time/effort/funds into the current place. I figure you want to leave the place better than it was when you moved in, that would be the right thing to do, but don't go overboard. From what interaction I've had with you I have faith that you are a good person and try to do the right thing, don't let anything change that and in the end things will go your way. Good luck!

Sorry, I got to rambling and forgot to comment on the tile VS vinyl.
Being that it is a modular/mobile/trailer home I would shy away from using actual tile, it will have a very limited life before you are going to have to regrout, fix cracks, etc. The problem I have seen with the vinyl squares is that stuff seems to get into the seams between the pieces and it's hard to clean out and eventually pieces start coming up (looks great when first installed).
Check local building supply places for vinyl remnants, you can usually get some decent looking patterns for fairly cheap. I've bought like 10 X 12 pieces for around $14, measure the floors you want to do and see if something like that can be found.
And actually, the suggestion to just clean the heck out of the floor and put down a coating on it is not a bad idea unless you later want to glue down vinyl over top of that, the paint or coating may cause issues. I've had to deal with painted hardwood floors before and it was not pretty.
Whatever you do, keep things in perspective, I know you want a nice place to stay in, I know you want to leave the place better than it was when you moved in, but this is most likely not going to be the last place you live so don't go overboard on materials. It's easy to put more materials into a trailer than ther trailer itself is actually worth, and no matter how much you put into it you will not really raise the value (kinda like Honda's LOL).
Can't add too much except thanks. Before you put the flooring down, if you get to the wooden subfloor, clean the mess out of it and then take a sander to it. It'll get to virgin wood and give the new floor something clean to stick to. Hehehe, I said virgin. By the by, I saw that someone offered a rear bearing for you in another thread. Do I still need to see if I have one? Take your time, sit back every once in a while and look at the big picture as far as the house. Then, once you regain consciousness, get back to it and remember that a little hard work can go a long way. Check out sites like www.diynetwork and www.hgtv.com They have a lot of stuff on there for the domestically maintenance challenged like me. Congrats on the way things are looking up. Maybe things like that will spread for some others on the forum who've been through some rough times lately.

I really wish I was closer I just got done a couple months ago redoing a major portion of my sister in-laws and her husbands trailer we tore out the two bathrooms and redid them and we put down hardwood floors in the kitchen and the back of the house. We got it pretty cheap at a local mom and pop hardware store. Stay away from tile it is too much weight for the floor in an older trailer, just my opinion. I would like to help.
