A friend of mine died this weekend. Was hit by a drunk driver. He was just getting his start in Nashville and was on his way to a party to perform. He has a WONDERFUL wife and a 7-month old son. There has been a fund set up for his son on his website http://www.buckjonesmusic.com/
I know that the Fiero community has always been a great bunch...and I don't like asking something like this...but if anyone has a dollar to donate to this fund, I can tell you that it will be greatly appreciated and used very well. I knew Buck back when he went by his real name (had known him since 1980).
This is not easy for any of us that knew him...guess I just needed to type up something to maybe feel a little better.
Below is the press release:
ROYSE CITY, Texas Country singer Buck Jones was struck and killed as he walked along an Interstate 30 service road. The Department of Public Safety says Jones was struck from behind about 2:40 a-m yesterday near Royse City. Jones and his guitarist Jon Byrd were on their way to Dublin to perform at a private party. Promoter and co-producer Billy Block says Jones' vehicle blew a tire. The 33-year-old was looking for a mile marker to help identify his location to triple-A.
Chaddrick Hunter, of Royse City, was being held in the Hunt County Jail in Greenville on a charge of intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle charge. His bond was set at 50-thousand dollars.
Jones released an album called "Lucky Star" in 2005 for Western Beat/New Light Records. He is survived by his wife, Amy-Beth, and their 7-month-old son Walker Dylan.
My thoughts and prayers for him and his family Tim. I am sorry to hear of this. Sorry for your loss. I recently had a flat and could not find my mag lock key. I had to call my roadside assistance with USAA. I gave them the last mile marker I remembered but offered to go get the closest one. They insisted that I stay with the car, that they would find me. My experience, your friend's reinforces it, is to always pay attention to the last mile marker you pass. Even the name of an exit or cross street will help. I will see what I can do to donate to his family. Wow , a seven month old son.

Cliff - I am NOT asking for anyone to donate...I don't like it when people do that...I know that times are hard for everyone...I just wanted to let people know that there was a fund in case they wanted to give. It is kinda hard to type what I am meaning by that....none of it seems to make the kind of sense that I mean for it to.
YES - a GOOD lesson in knowing where you are when driving...we just never know when our time is up. I know that when Michael and I had the blow out in the Indy on our way to Wichita, Kansas, and blew out just south of Norman, Oklahoma, it was a little after midnight and all but pitch black. I made sure that Mike was as far from the roadside as possible.
