You get bit. heh....things don't always go so good, . Somehow I enjoy my effort more. It's the thought that counts. I got a new neighbor two doors down across the street. Saw them moving stuff in. When we moved in, the neighbors welcomed us with munchies and sodas and greetings. So, the new neighbor went back for another load of possessions and I jumped on my riding lawn mower to mow their grass. It had not been mowed in a couple of months. Low and behold I hit a land mine. A big rock that broke my mower. So now they have one swipe of grass cut. They don't know who cut it. I need parts. I feel good. What inspires you to commit a random act of kindness?

Waking up in the morning (on the right side of the bed). As long as I feel "ok" , I will usually try to help others out. I have learned from experience that If I'm not in good shape, my "help" will usually not be so helpful.
It's hard doing things when everyone's so paranoid, though!

, maybe not hard but it does make it more stressful. If it could not get any more stressful, why do they tell you to quit trying to doing stuff which they say causes stress. When it does not. They are stressing. It's a good thing I don't care....umm...stress, . Rant off,

A friend of mine was just shot, and luckily was not killed, giving an "exchange student" a ride to the other part of my campus. He was robbed, and his car was stolen and chopped then abandoned a few miles away.

A few years back the house next to me had been sitting empty for almost six months with a for sale sign in the front yard. It is a really nice home, but was over priced for similar size homes.
Anyway I had never met the owner because the house was empty when I moved into my home. The lawn was overgrown and the owner only made it by every blue moon to clean around the property. Since I cut my lawn twice a week I figured it would be nice to do his front lawn to:
1. Improve the curbside appeal of his home 2. Improve the curbside appeal of my home
So I cut his grass weekly... bear in mind that I still had not met him, I did it anonymously
As the summer got hotter, the lawn started drying up... so I watered it maybe twice in one month, just to keep it from dying all the way off. The owner was PISSED that I used his water without approval.

I was driving through the mountains here to the beach for a friends b-day. We didnt want to take the main freeway due to traffic so we took this little winding road and we were nearly there when we came across a tree that had just fallen and blocked both lanes.
We couldnt just turn around and take another way, we would have to go all the way home so we stayed a while and pondered what to do. Cars started piling up on both sides of the fallen tree when a guy in a jeep with a wench on the front pulled up.
Everyone ON OUR SIDE of the tree hopped out of their cars and stared clearing debris and branches while the guy hooked up the cable to his truck...even a dog came out to help us It was a good feeling. All these strangers working together for a common goal. Meanwhile everyone on the other side did nothing.
All went well and we cleared one lane for cars to pass...the opposite lane. We all got back into our cars and before we could move. the million cars waiting on the other side who hadnt helped us at all went through and we, the hard workers, had to wait for those pricks.
It was a very high moment followed by a very low moment. Some people make me sick. Im still upset about that day.

I am surprised at you. You have always seemed like a stand up citizen here on PFF. I would have figured you to have been a good neighgbor there at home also. You didn't offer to pay for his water bill ? j/k, .

Well, I can see the Jeep being able to get to the tree in the opposite lane which I presume is why you cleared their lane. I won't give you a hard time about not clearing just your side. I also would have got an attitude.

I agree completely. I anonymously have cut that yard while it was for sale for almost a year. As why topcat did. Curb appeal for me and the sale of the house. I have never mowed the back yard. I had not mowed the front in awhile and it was high. I had hoped to get it mowed while they were away between loads. A "welcome neighbor" gesture. I am not looking for a PFF pat on the back nor one from any of my neighbors. The feeling my deeds bring me is reward enough. I often mow the immediate neighbors lawns when I run mine over. Believe it or not, weedeating and curb edging also. Both neighbors semi needy physically. What goes around comes around. The scoundrels in the above quotes will get theirs, somehow, someway.

You know the thing that got me was that the amount of water I used on his lawn never affected his water bill because we have to pay a minimum for the first 3,000 gallons (or a number near that). I did not use more than the minimum to water his lawn so his bill was not affected because no one lived in the home to use ANY water.
Believe it or not I aplogized to him for using HIS water on HIS lawn to improve the look of, and possible sale of, HIS home.

I do believe it. I also know about minimum water usage. Heck, you should have been using his water to water your lawn, .

Don't change that dial ! I think I am gonna have a good one for you. I am about to go help a damsel in distress. I am married. She is in a controling relationship with a brute of a boyfriend. A whiskey drinking jealouse mo-fo. Mean as they come. Meaner when he is whiskied up.
Can this end good? Who is gonna kill the stupidhero? Will it be the wife? The damsel? Or, th mo-fo? Will our stupidhero be able to post again?
This chick just got done (nodd nodd wink wink) in her truck then when she went to kiss me she split her lip and chipped a tooth on my big toothey grin... Howerver she maintained it was the truck door.. Thats was the truth and even I will be sticking to it.

Why did I know better than to ask, ? The Nightmare On Cliff Street continues. A little back ground...I will make it brief. I am dealing with a toxic relationship of a friend of mine of 25 years and a good woman I have known for six. A love hate relationship. FLIP FLOP like no other. She is originally from Illinois. She wanted to go back. She said she was tired of the abuse. She sold all her stuff to fund the move home. She could not get the last details took care of and my wife offered my help. We gave away our holiday weekend to help her. Truck and trailer storage of the keepsakes, tow dollying her 74 VW to my home (I am to sell it for her), letting her stay the weekend with us, then this morning driving her to San Antonio to pick up her rental car. A 150 mile round trip. Being a woman, of course she had to much stuff. I managed to pack it well for her and sent her on her way. Called my wife and said she is gone.
I get a call a little after 3:00PM. She is back here in Kerrville, calling from his place "WAH WAH WAH ! He don't love me. I wanted closure. He wants me gone. Can I stay at your place? I am drunk, I can't drive." The wife and I go out there and can not find his new place. I call her number. He is locked inside and she can't tell me how exactly to get there. She says never mind, she will sleep in her vehicle (packed to where the seats will not recline). Our Stupidhero is no hero. He is just STUPID.
