If the original Knight Rider show was released just a few years later, would K.I.T.T. be a Fiero?
Why was a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am chosen anyways? I'm currently blanking on the background? I remember that they needed a "cheap" mass produced car, so they can crash and replace them easy, IIRC.

Not enough room for Goodies, no back seat for extra characters, interior shots would be harder to do? But I like the way you think.

Also no back seat for the driver when Michael was not in the car. The stunt driver actually sat behind the passenger seat and looked through that little slot in the seat for the shots where KITT could be seen driving without someone in it.

In the first episode they were still trying to work out ways for KITT to drive alone. There is one shot where you can see the driver is actually sitting in the driver's seat with a car seat cover over him. Look closely as KITT pulls up to a gas station about 30 minutes into the show.

Yup, I noticed this when my brother got season 1 on DVD. My childhood suspension of disbelief was instantly crushed!

I actually think a rear engined car couldn't do the power slides or be as agile due to weight distribution. Also could you imagine jumping a Fiero...(not that it didn't total the Trans Am alot of the time).

Yea, even when I was a kid, I remember seeing parts where the car jumped and the front was bent on landing. - then there was a hard cut and the car was whole again.
Click the link... it was built in the late 80's by Tom P (the Prezz... of the Wisconsin Fiero Fanatics). I first saw in '93 or '94 at a FOCOA national show....
