Like the title says, I need suggestions on a decent Rifle safe that can pull double duty as a fire/theft prevention safe.

Budget: <$500.

What part of "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED" is so hard to understand?!

You might be able to find something that meets your needs at Cabela's.

That Stack-On safe on the second page at $299 is what I have. Its not fire proof but I can't see dropping a couple of grand when I only have a few hundred dollars in guns. There are bolts inside that screw into the wall behind it. I have no complaints.

Being the cheap bastard I am, I have to ask: any reason why not to go for the $99 stack-on? (If it's just capacity I only have 1 rifle ATM...)

Edit - I think they have both of those stack-ons at my local Bass-Pro

If you don't need the space I don't see any difference. With one gun in an 8 gun cabinet you will have plenty of room for more guns and room for important documents, etc.

Now that I look at it maybe I do have the $99 one..(scratches head)..uh, well either way I'm sure both are great!

Cool. I'll have to pick one up soon.

(Interestingly enough they used to sell those stack-on safes at the local Wal-Marts but I noticed they put them on clearance last Christmas and didn't get any more, in fact they don't have gun safes at all, at least at the 5 or 6 Walmarts I go to around the Tulsa area)

I was thinking I might buy a cheaper non-fire-proof gun safe and put a small cheap fire safe inside of it. I'd get the best of both worlds, cheap fire and theft protection (the fire safe) in a big package thats bolted down and cannot be easily carried away (the gun safe)

i've got a cheap fireproof safe,
it would probably take up about 80% of the floor of a 10 rifle gun safe.

but turn it up on end and it would only take up about 30%.
so you would have room for 5 long guns and a couple of carbines
