I thought only the Lamborghini Miuras burned. (when left at stoplights too long, before they fixed the defect.) ____ * well he can afford it but poor guy, that the Lambo is burning.

100k car and you don't buy a 30$ fire extinguisher some one has their priorities out of order. Either that or they thought that for that kind of money those engines don't need oil changes. I'm impressed with how little the fire spread I've seen other car fire videos where the whole thing is consumed with in a few minutes. At least they should see some insurance money if that happened to my car I would be SOL.

When you have a $100K car, you SHOULDNT have to buy a $30 fire extinguisher. Ive got a $6000 dollar car, i dont keep a fire extinguisher next to me. And also, dont Lambos have like a 30 or 50K mile maintenance schedule?

I don't know something about cheap insurance and protecting your investment comes to mind when I see something like this. Although imagine if we applied that reasoning to other expensive things like this 747 cost 6 million $ why should we build a fire suppression system into it it's built well enough.
I keep a fire extinguisher in my car all the time but I do use the excuse that it's there to help others if their cars on fire but that's just good Samaritan reasoning not admitting that my car could easily catch on fire reasoning.

You ever tried to put out an engine fire, with just a single, little fire extinguisher?
With the people I know, that have had an engine fire, I'd say at least 8 times out of 10, it ain't going to happen. You'd have better luck pi$$ing on it, only it would smell worse!

I would love to know the background story of why this one caught fire.
On a side note: Can I have the interior? Puweeese?
I remember when that happened just a couple of years ago, it happened right outside of Valley Fair near SantanaRow in San Jose and iirc was being driven by the girlfriend of the owner, who happened to have a few more exotics. The story can be found on ferrarichat.com if you search for it.

No I guess I haven't tried to put out an engine fire I wasn't aware it was so difficult but regardless of the success rate be sure I would be trying with whatever I have to suppress it rather then watch it burn.

ive had mixed results. 1 small extinguisher did not put out a grass fire under a car, but 1/2 liter of bottled water put out a caliper fire. slightly better than nothing.
I imagine he has full coverage so it would be safer to just let it burn and get away from it. He can just collect insurance and buy another one.
I would. Can you imaging having to drive it after 1/2 the electrical system got scorched? It would be better to get a new one. I'm sure resale on a "burn victim" Lambo would be very low compared to a well kept one.

oh yea, magnesium burns a really bright white, if I remember my chemistry class correctly?
PURE magnesium. Chances are they used a magnesium alloy, like Pontiac did on the '84 Fiero decklid vent. If it burned, the color would be altered by the materials used in the alloy.

90% of the small fire extinguishers are useless due to lack of maintenance. How many have an extinguisher mounted in the garage? Is it going to work when you need it? Have you performed your monthly service on it? Probably not. I was a firefighter for 20 years. I can't count the number of fires where the victim tried to stop the flames with a little extinguisher and he failed.

what gets to me is the fact that no one seems to steer clear or ask the guys filming about helping them. no one drives clear everone is just driving close by and not concern about the thing exloding this is the same with all the lambo burning videos

The Floridian guy in the pic was at a Shell gas station filling his tank and while waiting he decided to walk inside to get some smokes (the pump was engaged while he left). Upon exiting the store his 200k car was on fire. They think the gas tank over filled and the gas then flowed out (of the gas neck) onto the exhaust. The guy is getting a lawyer to sue Lamborghini for a defective system and the gas station.

lol if its like pa hes not going to win theres signs posted up all over gas stations do not leave your car unattended while filling.
Im surprised anyone can keep a Lambo running enough for it to catch fire, lol. Ive worked on a few and while looking pretty, the ones ive been around are junk. A local guy had his in for service so much, he took it back a year later with a lawyer, sued the dealer and got a full refund. A friend of mine had an older one he was afraid to drive. Every trip out of the garage ended up in a breakdown of one thing or another. His gf was pissed and left him too. He traded a house for it.
Ive had no trouble putting out other peoples engine fires with a small extinquisher. I keep a serviced one in each car, some have more than one...cheap insurance to me.

What exactly do you do to service/maintain it? I don't recall getting any kind of manual with the one I bought a while back. All I can see is "pull the pin, aim the nozzle, squeeze the trigger". There's not that much to it.

Ferraris too! I'd be REALLY pissed if my $200,000 car burned to the ground. I don't really have to worry though. More than likely I'd have a replica instead.

You are supposed to take them to a Fire Extinquisher Company and have them checked and refilled once a year. As I found out a few years ago though, they charge more to service it than buying a replacement. I usually keep one 2-3 years and just get a new one for like $20. I thought I was smart just refilling until they sent me the bill for $35. The larger ones in my shop are just inspected. They test the pressure and put a new date tag on it.
