Alright, after reading a ton of threads on welding up gears for extra traction, i went ahead and welded mine up.

I put the third back in and went to pull out of my garage, and I just roasted my clutch. I figured that maybe there was some slag left in the bearing, so i dropped it in 4lo and lo and behold something broke loose.
MY ****ING DRIVE LINE.

I'm really pissed at all this BS talk. I welded my junk really wel. And now my driveline is twisted up like a damn pretzel.

You are all a bunch of **** talkin Jerks.

What the hell did you all do differently?

He welded the pinion gear to the drive gear. LOL

He misunderstood what a lot of people do is weld up the spider gears to force a posi traction rear end. What a dolt.

Looks like he did a thorough job, too

1st ,You started this thread wrong by blaming others for something dumb you did.
2nd ,There are more than 2 gears in a rear, you picked the wrong 2 to weld.
3rd ,A locked rear is not a good thing to use on the street or track because it isn't safe.
4th ,A little respect wouldn't hurt when you are asking for help. The people here are as helpful and knowledgeable as any you will find on the net.
5th ,If you need more traction, try wider tires (if they will fit).

Exactly how is it not safe on a track? I run a locked rear in my Fiero and I know several others who run them in other brands, including a couple front wheel drive cars.

The advantages on the track outweigh the disadvantage in the garage of trying to push the car around.

Break an axle and you'll find out why they aren't safe !!

We used to always weld up the spider gears on my stock car. Now Nascars gone hi tech. I remember also using railroad car springs cut down for right fronts, and bolted on chains to limit wheel travel up and down. Locked up rear ends were great for paved ovals at 180 mph. The hi tech version is just engineered that way...called a Detroit Locker.
