I'm going to have a 'virtual tea party" in Augworld for those that either live too far away from an actual one, or who can't attend for any other reason.
lol I was more impressed by the folk who suggested we all turn off our lights at a certain hour.....
sorry - we are all to comfortable to put up a fight
Yes but unlike the fiction that is global warming oh sorry its called climate change now how could I forget that. Anyway unlike climate change the current political situation here in the United States of America is real in that both of the two major parties have taken complete leave of anything that resembles fiscal responsibility. And sense this is suppose to be a country of we the people then as we the people we need to stand up and tell those idiots in Washington to stop wasting our future.
I have my costume ready. Look for me on TV. I'll be the guy wearing a Statue of Liberty get up (borrowed from Liberty Taxes) parading an American flag flown upside down. In front of the Alamo. 4PM till 8PM. Supposed to be a good turn out. Overflow sight prepared. My wife won't go (she says I am embarrassing), my daughter won't go, I could not talk a friend into going. No matter. I am going.

Could someone explain what a "Tea Party" is about. Something about Republican dudes going to tea rooms and getting tea bagged? :comfosed:
It is about taxpayers (democrats and republicans, Americans ALL) who are pissed at legislators who are spending your great-grand-children's money. You ARE one of those.

Yeah Ray, that too, . I also hope to let the guvstapo know that we are the people. It is so much more to me that they have been spending our grand children's money. They think politics is about them. It is not.

Forgot your High School history did you? Well, with public schools being what they are, it's not surprising.
I'm familiar with the historical connotation of the term. So these tea party demonstrations are going to destroy taxable goods by throwing them into the ocean? Are we supposed to dress up like Indians? Don't be snooty, I have a private school education thank you very much.
What am I supposed to do to participate? I honestly don't understand the concept of "Tea Party 2009".

It's a protest. What is so hard to understand about that?
Too late, lost my "care". I did google, and the only thing I found was a list of organizers with phone numbers. I guess I'll just have to watch it on the news.

Do we bring guns, or signs ? Maybe we can Fed Ex them a cookie. The man is asking a question. These Tea Parties are not getting a lot of media play. WhiteDevil88, these tea parties are really an evolution of one or two before (this year). It is a protest but not one organized by any political party. There really is no set agenda. It is a voter time to yell "I am mad and I am not gonna take it no more !" Will they listen ? Nah, I doubt it. Then again, three years after the Boston Tea Party, the American Revolution started. I hope they don't listen because I am ready.

The point of the original Tea Party was to get the government's (Britain, at the time) attention and make the point that the citizentry was/ is tired of being treated like nothing more than a statistic, which it succeded at doing but failed to produce the desired result. As for participation: as far as I can tell, show up at the nearest protest site.

I guessed that maybe he had clicked on the nifty like in OP and looked around the site that explains everything he asked or maybe read the replies before his post. I must have expected to much from him. I'll be sure to set my standards lower for him next time.

Jeff, the concept of Tea Party '09 is to voice an opinion to the federal govt that many are fed up with the tax funded expenditures aka Stimulous Bill/Bailout Nation/$trillion deficit. Basically to tell Washington DC that we are watching--are displeased, and do intend to hold them accountable in whatever way we can. Otherwise, they would just take our silence as approval of their actions--in both the current administartion and the last one. It may not accomplish much, but it may at least let them know someone out in the country gives a damn what they do.

Will it do anything or get the attention of politicians? No. But it does get people under many political and apolitical stripes together. It's a chance to meet people face-to-face, instead of just online, but it is also a chance to exchange e-mail address, phone numbers and enjoy each others company, hopefully building friendships along the way.
This is to help foster a much broader movement that will spider out to a number of different causes. In fact, these Tea Parties are helping many people get involved in the political voice to redress their grievances that has never been involved before.
Will it be something massive and have millions of attendees? No. But it is at least something and I'm encourage about the number of people signing up for some of these Tea Parties. It's a good sign.
On a side note: Watch out for ACORN and other leftest organizations. They are planning to infiltrate these Tea Parties and act like fools in order to try to discredit these Tea Parties in the eyes of the media. If you experience some of these people at your Tea Party... You know, it will be somebody who dresses like a Lumber Jack or a dirty tank top and they are acting like Drunks and inciting stupid slogans... Just be polite to them, kindly ignore them and if the media runs to these people to film or interview them, let them know that these people are from ACORN and Leftist Organizations and are there to disrupt it.
Don't be confrontational to these people. Just be polite and ignore them. Remember that.

I did click on the link. It came up as a 503 Error. I found many links that had news articles about it, but nothing that indicated where I could find out about local activities. I found one site that seemed quasi organizational in nature, but listed no information about how to find local activities. I read all responses, and I fail to see which post answers any question that I later asked. If my Google skills are lacking, I would love to be directed to information about the event and local activities. But I don't expect that much from you, it is easier to make comments. I know exactly what standards I have for your posts.

To answer your question, sans insults and vagueness, the Tax Day Tea Party is about protesting the record breaking spending that our congress is doing right now. It's not so much a protest of the current taxes, but the spending and the new taxes that will result from the spending. If you dont like the idea that congress is taking control of private businesses simply by printing the money as they need it, thereby burying the people of America in debt, then please attend a tea party. It's not about Obama or republicans and democrats, it's about the government as a whole getting too big and wasteful. Democrats pay the same taxes that republicans do and I fully expect there will be democrats at tea parties tomorrow.

This took me about 4.5 seconds to find through google. Looks like there are many (50+?) parties in california. It says when and where for each one. http://taxdayteaparty.com/teaparty/california/

I assume you're joking, but I'll entertain the question never the less.
Growing up, you should have learned about the Boston Tea Party that took place in the Boston Harbor. This was a famous protest amongst citizens against the heavy taxation of tea (and other commodities as it stood). So in protest, they dressed up like Indians, snuck aboard a merchant ship from England and pushed over barrels of tea, etc...
Today, we are protesting a few things, but they're all related to fiscal responsibility. We are protesting: 1 - The bailouts (which we fear, and know, will lead to increased taxation) 2 - Obama's budget plan (which is expected to grow the national debt by several trillions more which will lead to increased taxes) 3 - The massive expansion of government (which will lead to increased taxes).
That is what these tea party protests are about.
I REALLY, REALLY hope you knew about the Boston Tea Party? Please tell me (lie if you have to) that you knew about the Boston Tea Party. It's like one of the first things they teach you in school, public, private, liberal or conservative. You would quite literally have to be exceptionally stupid not to have learned that...?

still dont get it...how is this a protest?
the closest thing you can do to the Tea Party would be to destroy tobacco which the King receives much $$$ from OR throw the containers from China off a container ship (and hope there are not Chinese slaves in the container...)
and, of course, be dressed as Taliban
this Tea Bag stuff is mighty mighty lame - and sounds more like something from the great mind of Flo, The Progressive Insurance Lady
And they call themselves teabaggers to boot! I can honestly say that I have never seen so much stupid - and I went to an ultra liberal college where stupid was thicker in the air than post smoke.

I get that it's a protest in the fact that there will be numerous people gathered and holding up protest signs (and if I didn't have to close up business to attend I'd be there); but in the end I doubt that anything will change. The biggest thing that may get accomplished from this tea party, is that for once American citizens will start to unite and work together. As far as changes in the government resulting from the tea party ~ forget it.

For this tea party to really be effective, a more proactive step should be taken. Destroy the taxable goods like American citizens did in Boston all those years ago. Or better yet, destroy the printing presses that the government is printing their monopoly money on. ~ That will REALLY get their attention!
