Are there any penalties for losing?

The only penalty is having to announce your loss to others. Loss is only temporary, as soon as you stop thinking about The Game you start winning again.

The forgot this in the FAQ:

Q: Is there any point to The Game?
A: Absolutely not. It's just another worthless diversion to waste the time of those playing.

I lost.

What happens if I get everyone else in the room to lose, while not losing myself? Do I win?

It's supposed to be.
It's for dumb people Jim.
And children.
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things......

I can't begin to tell you how many things are wrong with that statement.
Can you still play your kid's games with them?
Can a 50 year old man still own a Fiero, or should he put away "childish things".

Who makes the "childish things" call?

My kids are in their 30s, but yes, I can still play my grandchildren's games with them as long as I keep it in mind that they are their games.

Dunno about Alaska, but in Texas, children aren't allowed to buy vehicles afaik, and certainly aren't allowed to get a driver's lic. #1 function of all my vehicles is a tool to get me from point A to point B.

Maryjane's just mad because he lost the game after 30 years of not knowing he was playing.

If we were all drunk we would understan.

I wouldn't know about your "hackers" source--I got it from an older and more revered source.

Sure, but you'll never know you won, because as soon as you realize you won - you lose.

The game is un-winnable

Well, it's un-winnable for everyone except me
