My Dad, my oldest brother, my sister, were all alcoholics. My Dad quit before I was born and I never saw a drop in the house growing up. My brother dried out in his 60's and my sister dried out in her 40's.
Good for you. Once you have it in hand, you just don't bother to let go.
Thanks for sharing your success.

Congratulations, as per request. And from personal awe. It takes a good man to accomplish any goal. Forgive me for asking. Why ? I am not the drinker I once was but I didn't quit. I enjoy a beer regularly and a rare occasional highball. I don't know if I could quit. Heck, you can call me an alcoholic. I'll drink to that, .
I have a beer every other night after work. Never been a problem for me, but my wife cannot even have one, or all comes tumbling down and she becomes completely lost to it.
So I have great addmiration for those that see a potentual personal problems with consumption and do the hard thing to keep it from happening. Those that do this have some of the greatest day-to-day strength I have every witnessed.
Grats!

Believe it, the congrats are appreciated much more than you can ever imagine.
You guys and girls (fierogirls-mom) are are the best forum friends in the whole wide world and I love you all.
Hey! Let's not get all mushy about this.
Next thing you know, Dar will be crying and someone will suggest a group hug. Truth be told, I'm not sure everyone here is that trustworthy. Last hug I got, ended up with someone pinching my butt. I still think it was that Blake guy from Texas. Let's just be good friends.

Congratulations. My Dad had over 27 years in the program. While I do not have a drinking problem, I have come to embrace the concept of "One day at a time". Give my regards to Bill W. the next time you see him. ~ Bob P.S. I see that you have a good sense of humor. A very necessary thing in this life.

Hi, my name is Greg, and I am an alcoholic. Really, I am. But...I refuse to buy more beer until I drink those last four that are in my fridge. It was hard at first...but, 5 years later the thought of choking down that skanky old crap is enough to scare me away from beer. And this way, it really does get easier as time goes on.
I tried it once before with a single beer in there, but after about two years my landlord stopped by and said "Hey, you mind if I have this beer?" Maybe I should have told him.
I stopped drinking April 14th 1997, around 9:00 pm sometime. I quit for 12 years. I don't regret my drinking, I'm responsible and make sure I have a way home. The thing is there were reasons I drank too much, those have long ago stopped being a problem. Now I can enjoy a couple of beers and have a good time without regretting it.
Life is short, don't let things hold you down. If you do something to the point where its the only thing that defines you then you should evaluate your life. Perhaps its about time we all walk out side and count how many Fieros we have in our driveway.
