Along the same lines, I own 4 pair of dockers, all the "same size" Yet none of them are the same in the waist, and I bet there is at least an inch difference between the largest cut and the smallest cut!
Yeah, even pants from the same manufacturer but different styles. The pants I normally get, a regular fit 32" waist is a little loose and when I get a relaxed fit 32" waist I have to use a belt...

Theyve been doing that for years with womens clothes. It feeds their vanity. I also notice a substantial difference in measurements between brands. I get the same size in Levis and Macys, one fits, other dont at all. Even worse than pants are shoes. I get the same fit for shoes that are 2 or 3 sizes different.

I've noticed that even within one brand, the fit is all over the place. Buy three pairs of Levis, all the same size, and after a few washings they don't all fit the same. I don't know if its variation in the way the pieces were cut, or if they all shrink different, but I've been seeing it happen for years.

As it applies to cars, tires are the same way. a 215/16/60 tire can vary an inch in height between brands. If you blow out a tire, match the brand to the one on the other side. Not such a big deal front to rear, but on different sides it will make your car pull to one side.
Shoes? Oh yes I bought three pairs of trainers on offer at our local superstore, all the 'same' size. One pair was perfect (which I tried on in the shop ), and the other two? One was so small that even with the foam instep support removed, and no socks, they were too tight by miles, whilst the other pair are like boats
Even come across a pair that had 2 different sizes with the same size stamped on them
