Awesome! Love how you kept the AC functional, too. R-134A conversion or still R-12? Looks llke a V5 compressor, controlled by the LS ECM?
Another good project would be to replace all the rest of the DeLorean's Lucas-esque original wiring. Or convert the speedometer to digital and eliminate the failure-prone angle drive.

What is the transmission set up like in those things?
Its a rear engine setup, and uses a Renault 5spd transmission. its supposed to hold up to 450 hp and torque, so it should hold up. I'm concerned with the axles more than the tranny holding up though!

Why are the mufflers oriented like that? Can't they be clocked 90 degrees for more ground clearance and a cleaner look? Other than that, this has to be one fast rocket.

No, there isnt enough room for the exhaust to be oriented differently. We are working on a new routing, but it probably wont be done til after the summer is over, There is less than a foot of piping between the collector and the muffler, and the mufflers are only 10" long

I know lots of reasons why one wouldn't (or shouldn't?), but I would not be able to resist filling that spot with a very unique intake.
I know, I know.....
It has been discussed, again some things that will be changed over the next season, but the project was being worked on full throttle for the past 9 months, it was literally 6 months from start to finish of the actual engine swap, with all the engineering work needing to be done, and pioneering new pathways. It really is amazing that it only took that long.
Awesome job! I just scratched the surface of your friend's blog, but it looks like a great project. I hope he got a good grade on it. Good luck in the job market.
Interviews should go like this: "My resume? It's out in the parking lot. Wanna take a ride?"

I've been just one class away (the final project) for my master's degree for 2 years now... if I got to do something cool like this, I'd be WAAAAAAAAAY more motivated to get it done. Darn education masters...

but but but according to the guys on pawn stars that the Delorian was a mid engine... idiots.
To me, what you have there is more like what should have been in them. Something substantial.
If I read the blog correctly, this car also had a Toyota 2JZ in it at one point as well correct? That also seems like it would have been a very nice drivetrain to have back there.

The 2JZ is actually a different car that our friend bought from a guy in Florida. We used it for a few measurements and to justify moving the transmission forward a few inches which put the axles at a questionable angle.
Hey, that's Nick's delorean! I am on the dmctoday.com and dmctalk.org site and I see him on there all the time! Wow, am I the only one with a fiero and a delorean? I'm sure there must be at least one other person!

Same here, I don't know what the weight distribution is on that swap, but it sure looks ass-end heavy.
From what I've read online an LS1 weighs 450 lbs "When introduced in the 1997 Corvette the LS1 was rated at 345 hp (257 kW) at 5,600 rpm"
The original Delorean Engine was a "Peugeot Renault Volvo (PRV) 2.85 Litre V6" that weighed 331 lbs (not sure if the 331 is wet or dry). "Power (SAE) (130 hp at 5,500 rpm)"
"the stock DMC-12 has a 35%/65% front/rear weight distribution."
With the HP difference one could add weight to the front and probly still have fun.

Based on those distribution numbers (which weren't good to start with) and moving an approx. 100 lbs more rearward in vehicle, that seems pretty scarey to me. I'm no wizard, but it seems that it's pushing distribution closer to 30% frt. 70% rr.

So you just keep it out of the twisties... Put some wide-ass tires on the back end and throw it at the 1/4 mile.

I'm an LS fan but I would rather have a mid engine than a rear engine. I would take a stock one over this one for that reason.
The original Delorean is also rear engine. We weighed the car before and after, I don't have the exact numbers, but It increased in weight by far less than 100 lbs due to swapping a manual into the car from the auto. a larger radiator in the front, and the engine being shoved forward about 2 inches kept the weight distribution the same as it was prior to the swap. It is a blast to drive!

Thanks, You just corrected a long held impression of mine. I had to look it up to confirm. You wouldn't believe how many descriptions there were of the "midengine" Delorean. No wonder I was confused. Really unusual chassis frame too.
