Last night a friend up in Grand Rapids, MN was in a bad motorcycle accident and had to be air lifted to Duluth.

Al is a county approved foster home. With all the issues going on up North with my children, they were living with Al and his family.
I didn't know the family very well, but had met them in passing. It wasn't until a couple of months ago that I got to sit down with them and really have a heart to heart...
This is where I learned that they were a good family and we saw eye to eye on a lot of things.

I don't have the details on the accident yet, but I do know this..
Al has a fractured skull, broken collar bone requiring a plate and screws, bleeding in the brain, and blood trickling out of one ear. They are testing it to see if it is spinal fluid.

He has 7 shattered ribs and a punctured lung. He is stable, and in and out of a drug induced coma. They brought him up earlier to test his reactions. He wrote three things down on a piece of paper.
Water, Where's my bike, and Thirsty...
When told his bike was totaled, he rolled his eyes in a "Yeah Right" look.

I'm waiting for more input.

Please keep Al and his family in your prayers. More details incoming.

Destroyed. Totaled. Kaput. Kablooey.

Status update:
Amy is finally sleeping....me not yet but here's the latest update on Al.
Surgery tomorrow morning on his broken collar bone. Broke into three pieces so they will use a metal plate and screws to hold it. They woke him up for about 20 minutes. He wrote three words on a piece of paper. Those words were...water-where's my bike-thirsty! And when I told him his bike was totaled, he rolled his eyes like saying, "yeah right!"
His responses when awake were appropriate. He was able to follow directions like wiggle your fingers. But, he winces in pain and then they put him back under. On his right side, his lung is punctured and ribs 2 thru 9 are all shattered! His skull is fractured at the base, the bleeding around the brain is a little larger than last night. They are testing the blood coming out of his right ear to see if it is spinal fluid. His injuries are critical but he is stable and it looks good neurologically that his responses are appropriate. Thanks for all the prayers everyone!

Good vibes to him and all that who know him.

Hoping for a speedy recovery with no complications.

Dude, that sucks. My thoughts and good vibes for him and his family.

Do they know what caused the accident? Given the damage, I would guess he was wearing some sort of protective gear otherwise they would have had his funeral already... ?

One of his first questions was "Where's my bike?"

I like that in him. . I think he'll be just fine.

Hope he has 100% quick recovery. My best to all.

I didnt know there were any motorcycle accidents that werent bad/ major. I good friend of mine has had the same ankle completely crushed twice in 'minor' accidents. He still wont stay off of it. He can barely walk.

In my prayers as well.

The fact that he's concerned about his bike speaks well for his condition and mental state.
(Given his present state, I think his concern would be better directed elsewhere, but at least he has his focus.)

Best.

And the "Yeah, Right" shows his mental capacity is more than just simple responses.

Good vibes sent his way!

They know how to fix clavicles up there in Duluth, I had mine done there!

It's good as new today! I wish him the same speedy recovery.
