We'll this is going to end my car buying for a good while. and just about every car of mine is going for this thing. Figured It was time to start thinking for the future and get my credit in good order and get myself a nice new car.. The payments are not to bad and we got the car for a very Nice price with an extended warranty etc.. I picked myself up a red 2013 Hyundai Veloster 6 speed manual more or less a base model but the nice thing about it is Base model to Hyundai for this car includes Blue link, Touch screen radio, bluetooth capabilities including bluetooth music streaming, Navigation Power window's/locks. Key less entry Etc.. The cars I was looking at were This the dodge Dart and the Kia soul I wanted something Really good on gas seats 4-5 people comfortably. Nice amount of trunk space and was fun to drive. Drove all 3 of them and this Car fit the bill perfectly Its a blast to drive Reminds me kinda like a sports car that I get 36+MPG out of. And for such low horsepower Its surprisingly peppy with the 6 speed transmission.. I'll take a better pic tomorrow but here is it just before i bought it Got the only red one left rest were all black and white with tan interiors mine is red with black. trade off is every car I have needs to go with the exception of the jeep and the IMSA

OMG, You will only have THREE cars now?

How will you ever survive?!?

Heh... very cool - hope you enjoy it and have lots of good memories with the only "sad" one is when you sell it/trade it in after a long, useful, reliable life...

Your going to hate the touch screen very very soon. I test drove about 8 or 9 of them and wen't in on the Turbo but became tired of dealer games of "It will be here on the 8th, no now the 14th.. no now the 30th..." turned out to be 3 months before the one I put in for came in. What dart model did you test drive? The 1.4 Turbo Multi-Air is fantastic. I ended up buying a 500 Abarth with the same engine. Dodge being Dodge underrated the thing like always. On the stock setup I Dynoed 158WHP which is what the thing was rated for at the crank. Now at 176FWHP at the last dyno but have a few more parts on it, also pull 33MPG.
The thing that really annoyed me on the Veloster was getup... felt so weak, the touchscreen is stupid inaccurate. I do really like the styling in it though. Love the Turbo's interior.
Did the dealer give you any breaks on price? They wouldn't go under MSRP on the Turbo due to how little they made on it. Be sure to keep an eye out on Hyundai's TUX, inhouse tuning company to keep the 10yr/100k mile warranty.

The touch screen works really well in my car i know he said the 2012 model touch screens had some issues but who knows.. I drove one of the non turbo darts.. i did like it but It felt like a high tech neon to me I do like the fiat but i really dident like how small it was. I got a pretty good deal on mine.. Beleave it or not my Dad beat the hell out of them So bad that we got it for under invoice price all in all it came out to $20K out the door with an extended bumper to bumper warranty and gap insurance. It is gutless when it comes to acceleration but I still find it to be a fun and agile car for what it is.. The real nice thing about the dealership i got it from is they extend the warrenty to 20 years-200K miles.. I dont plan on keeping the car that long but still nice to know its there

LMAO...as a tech/ manager who has a LOT of experience dealing with those "extended warranties", lemme give ya an insider tip. I can ALWAYS find something in the fine print to invalidate it if I want to. ALWAYS. Basically, a warranty is a contract and unless the consumer sticks to the LETTER of it, it aint worth the time it took to talk about. Usually I am nice and look the other way on minor stuff, but if a customer is being a preek damn straight I can pull out the magnifying glass to go thru that fine print. ....Did ya modify ANYTHING ? Did ya EVER go even 50 miles over a recommended service?....sorry, you abused the vehicle by not following recommendations and/or using non-factory parts thus the warranty does not cover this. ....it works the same in EVERY industry dealing with machinery.

I agree with MEM. Ive never come out ahead with an extended warranty on anything. Ive found if it dont break in the original period its fine. Even a simple thing like oil changes you do yourself, you better keep detail reciepts of everything. You better use oil and filters from the manufacturers. The service guys job is to find a way of getting out of them having to pay. There pretty much like an insurance claims adjuster.

You didnt even test drive the Volt? for shame, shame. (joke intentions only)

Keep us updated on the car as you use it, get it fixed, etc. I'd love to see how it fares in everyday use.

It's interesting.. My friends dont really seem to mind.. the nice thing about it is its a rather large back seat door for it and it has a huge trunk. along with a comfortable back seat. The only thing i dont like is the back passenger side window if the only one in the back that rolls down.

Hmm good luck with that. Every Hyundai I have driven, which is all the current ones, have one thing in common. They drive like crap. Lots of gadgets to fool most buyers but compare them to other cars and they really are ugly engineering. So much potential but they would rather gadgets than a nice ride and performance. Also the appeal of the car will fade long before repayment do. Unless it is for business and has tax advantages cars are just not worth borrowing for. Sorry for blunt honesty but that's just the way it is.

Those are very interesting looking cars! Very unique! Congrats on the purchase!

Don't let them get you down on the warranty. Keep up with the maintenance and you will be fine. Sure, any warranty can be invalidated. Especially as the years tick by. Still, I have a suspicion Hyundai must generally stand behind their long warranty because it is one of the things they highlight to sell the vehicle, and they have been offering it for a very long time. Now if it was a Chrysler warranty...

I have not driven the Veloster, but agree with AusFiero on some of the Hyundai products. I drove a Genesis coupe a couple years ago. It had plenty of power and good handling, but I thought the throttle, brakes, and steering were engineered to be extra touchy to exaggerate those driving dynamics. I didn't hate it, but did end up with something different.

Cool car! Your right however, that this may cure your buying sprees... when you go to sell this one and see what the depreciation is your going to end up holding onto it a little longer.

Enjoy!!

I seem to recall there were others who wanted the 88GT. Will it be made available here on the forum for those who were interested?

As others have said good luck with that. I had a friend who bought a brand new ford years ago and they told her it was not unusual for a new car to use 5 quarts of oil in the first few hundred miles. I was there the next time she went back and they ended up putting a new engine in it.

When GM killed Pontiac, I said I would not buy another GM product.
The 05 G6 has 160k on it now so it was time to start looking for a new car for the wife, so ended up buying a 2012 Sonata.
Seems to have good fit/finish, and drives good.
I think Hyundai has come a long way in quality and do not think I will regret the purchase.

The wife needed a rental, provided by the insurance company. I passed on a Malibu and also got a Sonata. I was very impressed as well, as was the wife.

Those are popular cars here. Co-worker owns one. She said it is top notch and on par with the Nissans she owned. The price is right also. congrats! And you will be saving gas to boot!

Hope it all works out for you. It can.
Myself I shy away from car payments, sticking with used stuff, cheaper insurance and the maintenance / mod costs are less than the car pmts on a new car.

Sure thing about dodge underrating - my SRT-4 was sold with 215hp, it dyno'd (stock w/ 800 miles on it) at 242fwhp/268fwtq - wheeeee!

I *used* to be that way, but when I hit a certain point where having a fully functional car at all times was a requirement, it made more sense for me to buy a new VW Rabbit (2008) with a warranty that provided a loaner any time it was in for service/maintenance/etc. Every time my VW's hit 50k miles I trade in for a new one. I wouldn't do it with most cars, but the VW rabbit/golf hold value really well. I have 33k on my 2010 Golf now, and in 15k miles I'm trading it in. At 30k it crossed the point of being worth more than I owed, so it's all good from this point on. They're not the most exciting cars around, but 30ish mpg highway is pretty good for the 170hp/170tq.

My reaction to seeing a veloster bounces from "awesome looking!" to "wtf" - i think it depends on my mood, as well as the angle I see it from

Reminds me of the old CRXs from the late 80s early 90s.

Something different, something unique and by their sales figures, it seems to be well received.

PK... I haven't been on the forum as much as I used to. So do you still have this car? How are ya liking it now?
Lately, I've been doing some internet shopping at economical, gas saving, but fun and somewhat appealing smaller cars, and the Veloster has all that.

Ya good luck getting them to do anything to fix what goes wrong with it, if it lasts that long, is it a standard? Clutch isn't covered its a wear item. things like that are what you are going to hear when you bring it in.

good luck, you are going to need it.

He is his own man and I will not fault him for anything he does which affects him. Rick don't like to keep cars like many others I know.
I think he did get rid of it.

Why though did he get rid of it is what I want to know if he did? I know he has never been a very stable person as far as keeping anything for very long, but if he got rid of it for mechanical them not covering things under warranty reasons I would like to know that.
