Sometimes, they are.

The publishers Springer and IEEE are removing more than 120 papers from their subscription services after a French researcher discovered that the works were computer-generated nonsense.

Not surprised. People have been accepting fake scientific works since Genesis.

I found a Chinese paper that almost completely plagiarized one of my papers...I should have been angry, but I was actually flattered, lol.

Conference papers are great for padding the CV, but nothing beats a peer reviewed Journal paper.

...at least now I know the trick to bump up my citations

It's not just scientific papers... read some of the bills and laws and tax paperwork...
Some of it reads like a robot randomly spat out entire sentences and paragraphs...

Have you ever meandered around the "fake" internet? Thousands, if not millions of we pages filled with fake stuff which is used to bump up stuff- to elevate page views and clicks and rankings and whatnot...

The less it can be understood, the more you can twist it to say what you want it to. Much like the bills and laws that they sneak through under our noses.
