All, I've been in touch with a supplier that is willing to do a group buy for the low and high beam light modules. The cost will be approx 50 bucks for each light module.

Any interst?

In order to do it we must guarantee at least ten sets of lights are ordered. So if you are interested, please let me know before I go much further.

Cheers!

Those that are interested

This is for the round-type low-profile buckets? I am very interested if so.

Yes, this is for the round headlight modules that you need for teh buckets that FieroFan is selling.

I will add you to the list. We must have a total of 20 lights, or five people to get the discount.

What wiring is required to hook these up? Obviously, you need different plugs for the new lights, but what else?

Correct. I did not want to hijack his thread with a group buy, but these lights will work with his brackets. The cheapest price I was able to find on the net is about $58.75 dollars.

Count me in for the lights. Last I heard Fiero1Fan wasn't doing the harness. I think Orief might be though.

Sorry, I already bought the lights and connectors for PaulV's car and mine. They are sitting on the bench in the garage awaiting the buckets.

As for harness'
As soon as I get the buckets I can make them.

Topcat, Add me to the list. I'm also interested in joining the group buy for the lights. Can you just clarify for me if this for the lights and connectors or just the lights themselves.

Okay, I hve the required 20 lamps. I need to ensure we are all on the same sheet of music. Each person will receive a two low beams, and two high beams. I will call the supplier tomorrow to see if he can ship directly to your residence and if he will take the payment directly from you so I am not the middle man.

Stay tuned, more inf will be posted tomorrow afternoon. If you do not have the money to pay for four lights, please let me know tonight before I call him tomorrow.

I have one more vendor to check, I may be able to acquire a set even cheaper through where I work. I will be able to let you know tomorrow. You may want to wait though only since there are still several people not sure.

I maybe interested as well. I haven't had a chance to really look hard through all the threads as I've been pretty busy. I am picking up my 88GT today so I'm definately looking into this.

You basically need 4 of these lights right? Are the bulbs you put in different 2 high/2 low, or is high beam just all four lights? Also once you have the shells and lights, what else is required other than the wiring? Thanks for helping the ignorant.

I put in the Hella 90mm 3 yrs ago. Excellent lights. This was for my Koenig! I bought the 4 lights and connectors, plus 1metal mount that I used as a template. Dave was really a great help, runs a quality business. Here's his website!

There are four lights in total, 2 lows and 2 highs. They are specifically referred to as such though I myself am unsure as to what the difference is. Once you install and wire them you should be all set. Here's a link to one vendor:

The difference between low and high is how the light is distributed. The projector lens spreads the beam out and angles the focus down where the high beam is a clear straight beam.
Even though both use the same bulb, focus and beam projection are what make the difference.

Thanks, I was curious about that. I was wondering if maybe it was just the mounting that was different, in terms of aiming the light.

Oh... BTW I want one set of 4.

I suppose with some additional relays and upgraded wiring, to get all four to come on for the brights. I have this mod on my truck, which is a little easier to do due to the fact that everything is controlled by the ECM. GO FIGURE. That's probably the one thing that's made easier.

You won't need relays. All you need to do is install a 15 amp 50 volt diode between the high beam and low beam wires.

Okay, here are the details:

The supplier will get us four lights (2 low and 2 high beams) for a total of $221.50 shipped. Since I really do not want to be a middle man and have them sent to me then have to turn around and ship them out, nor do I want to handle anyone's hard earned cash, he agreed to take phone orders directly from folks calling from PFF and indicating they are in on the group buy. So what I need is for each person that wanted in to PM me with their full name. Once I get that info I will call Will and give him the names, and when you call in he will give you the group buy price. Each light comes with all mounting hardware that you need minus the electrical connector.

I had some ask for connectors. He will also give connectors at a discount, so if you want the connectors, add $24.12 to the total. Shipping is via UPS ground.

We really need at least 20 total lights to be sold, so we need at least 5 of those that said they wanted in to pony up. PM me with your info please.

When will you be ready? The key is that we have to guarantee a certain number of lights. IF there is enough interest later on, then perhaps another one can be set up.

For those who don't like the diode solution, I will soon post a circuit that uses a single relay to perform the same function.

Concerning the diode circuit: The diode can be rated at 50 volts or higher. The 15 amp rating I specified assumes that you will be using the 65 watt H9 or 55 watt H7 bulbs, which draw about 5 amps each. Suitable diodes are available from DigiKey or Mouser Electronics. I generally prefer to use diodes in "axial lead" packages, but in this current range they are probably more widely available in packages designed for mounting on a heat sink (stud mount, TO-220 tab mount, etc.). A heat sink will probably not be required in this application, but be careful; the stud or tab of most such packages is electrically "hot" and needs to be insulated from ground.

Edit: Forget the diodes, you don't need them. See my later post on page 3 of this thread.
