I got the harness today and I am almost done with the schematic.
I paid BIG dollars for the PCM harness. This is nothing for under the hood. All I got was stuff inside the car and the PCM connectors. I have no engine harness, but I am almost doen with the schematics
I had an impression that the Olds was not a true Northstar. Caddy's had Northstars and the old had Aurora engines. Not true. Both the 4.0L and the 4.6L are Northstars built By GM For Blank. I hope to have my running by the weekend on this PCM.

I am interested in this set up. 320hp ? Is this a plug and play type thing? Outside of mounts what else will I need. Any info you can give would be appreciated.
Tommy
On edit, I finally comprehend that there is no engine harness. I'm not so sure I am competent enough to build a harness and source/fab the parts needed to mount all of the accessories. Would a factory harness for an Aurora bee a good starting point? Are the injectors, rails, coil packs included..... Basically, I need a total assessment of what will be needed to get this thing going.
Sorry for the ramble, but I'm excited about this opportunity. I just don't want to end up with something I can't see through to completion.

The Series One engine is a "worked" version of the Olds engine. Shelby originally wanted the 4.6 liter motor but GM said no and he had to settle for the 4.0. I don't remember all of the details but a great write up was done way back when in Motor Trend. The 4.0 engine has better cams, larger valves, and other upgrades that give it the punch it has.
PS, Tommy, there is no such thing as a "plug and play" northstar swap. The engine bay need cutting and welding to widen the passengerr side tower, move the passenger side hood hinge mount and redesign the hinge, remove the dog bone mount, and do some cradle mods. Check out the tech section for some good threads on the details.

As far as plug and play, I was focusing on the wiring harness. On my edit, I realized that the harness would have to be built. Does the passenger side tower have to be cut on an 87'???? I was under the impression that only the 88's needed this modification to get the N* in.
I'm willing to do everything but the strut tower mod to install this engine.

If you look at STS's Fiero you will see that he did not cut his all up.
This engine will come with a harness built for a Fiero.

Yes he did. Look for the hood hinge or the dog bone mount in the pictures. You won't see them. Cutting is a necessity. As for the towers, I am not sure whether or not the 88 needs it but you will have to remove the dog bone mount and hood hinge regardless.

I drilled out a few spot welds and removed the Dog Bone brace! I used a spot weld drill so I did no have to plug weld the holes. I did cut my hinge. Big mistake. I had to weld it back together. Yes my hinge is not notched out.

Can you give me a call to discuss this? 917-731-7985
Tommy
When I talked to you a few weeks back I was getting or had a bad cold. It had me out of it for about 2 weeks. That was part one of the delay getting back to you. The car is running. My girl friend had back surgery. We have 3 kids so I have been running them around and going to see her in the hospital. That was part two Part Three is taking care of her. I just brought her home on Friday.
Give me a few weeks and I should have a bunch of stuff posted and going on this.

I've seen some people drill out the spot welds on the hinge mount and move it outboard about 2-3 inches and then custom weld-up a spacer for the stock decklid hinge. I'll find a pic somewhere of one. Looks good and give you all the room you need but you do need to relocate the battery to the front.

What other mods/parts are needed to make this fully functional in a Fiero?
Thanks!
