MAJOR development FOR 1988 FIERO OWNERS. I've have been working with a supplier to get a hold of some alternative brake caliper slider pin boots for the '88's ( https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/089492.html )- check out the thread for more information- BUT, over this past weekend my "supplier" has located a cache of ACTUAL '88 Fiero Caliper Boots! It looks like he'd have to buy a large number of them- over 1600- in a bulk purchase, and he is unwilling to do so unless he believes he can sell them all.
Doing the math, 1600 boots =
-100 FULL BOOT SETS to do an entire car (4 boots per caliper, so 16 boots to a car) -200 SINGLE AXLE BOOT SETS to do one axle, front or rear, on a single car (4 boots per caliper, so 8 boots per axle) -400 SINGLE CALIPER BOOT SETS (4 boots per caliper)
Is there enough interest in these to sell 100 FULL SETS total, and what kind of price would they have to come in under to do so? They are ACTUAL '88 Fiero Caliper Boots, so they will be pricier than the alternative ones we've been playing with for sure.
PRICE??
Right now, it sounds like we'd be looking at a price of APPROXIMATELY $35 per set of EIGHT BOOTS, enough to do one axle on the car (two calipers). That's WAY LESS than buying the slider kit we have to buy to get the real boots that has only two boots and a slider, isn't it? At $35 for EIGHT BOOTS, that works out to $70 to do the whole car, all four calipers. I might be able to work out a lower price for those who buy a full set for a car as opposed to just a single caliper for instance. He might do that.
Is $35 too much for 8 ACTUAL '88 STYLE BOOTS?
I need thoughts on this and fairly quickly!
-Gary

I think it is a lot because I can buy new loaded front calipers from calipers online for $125 a pair. By now, my calipers probably could use to be replaced anyway.
Then again, I'm not the type that cares if the part is perfectly OEM original. I'd settle for something that is functional, so I am probably not your target market audience.

I realize that you can buy the pair of calipers for $125 plus shipping online- but if you just need boots and not new calipers (and those are only fronts), well, that is $125 and a lot more than it would cost for just the boots if you don't need a new caliper. Also, from what I understand, many have bought the GM kit that contains a set of boots and a new slider just to get the two boots, and that kit costs between $30 and $40. This priced didn't seem that bad to me I guess. BUT, I am not completely sure of the price yet- the price here is the intial belief but may very well be lower when all is said and done.
$30 for 8 boots isn't too bad, though I would be happy with the alternative boots if they're cheaper. When these boots go I'll have to use the alternative ones anyway.
Do they come with instructions on hwo to install them with only mild cursing and throwing of tools? The last time I worked on reinstalling those little buggers I had worked up enough frustration to throw things around the garage. Getting the boot inplace in the bore and installing the pin has proved to be more than a challenge. I ended up on calipers.com buying 4 new calipers for something I am sure I could fix on my own. Given the right knowledge base anything is possible.

If you can do 8 boots for $25 (which does 2 calipers) so to do all 4 calipers (16 boots for a complete car) for $50 and $3 SHIPPING but offer multiple order shipping discount. I will take (28 boots to do 2 complete cars) THESE MUST BE the 1988 FACTORY BOOTS) for a total of $105 I need them right away and can paypal you right away. How quick can you get them? Let me know podziemj@matc.edu Fiero John-WI

Okay- it looks like I can do a little better than I thought- how about:
-Set of 8 boots (two calipers) for $24 SHIPPED
-Set of 16 boots (four calipers) for $47 SHIPPED
TIME and SUPPLY ARE LIMITED here, so anyone who is interested would have to commit asap in order to get them. This is all based on the boots still being available, as they could be sold by the time I officially order- but I won't accept any payment from anyone until I have them in my hands to ship to you. PLEASE POST HERE IF YOU WANT THEM. -Gary

My suggestion would be to put this fellow in contact with the folks at the Fiero Store (aftrer a phone call to them to see if they would be interested.) They are in a good position to bulk purchase and market the product. You will never get enough interest on the Forum 'quickly' to justify the expense to this non-Fiero retailer. The Fiero Store, however, is a clearing house for such thing. Just my 2c.

That was my first thought, actually. I've contacted them and received no response thus far. ) :
Edit in post above where I gave newer prices. I originally put in:
-Set of 8 boots (two calipers) for $24 SHIPPED
-Set of 16 boots (four calipers) for $50 SHIPPED
ACTUAL COST WILL BE:
-Set of 8 boots (two calipers) for $24 SHIPPED
-Set of 16 boots (four calipers) for $47 SHIPPED
I made an error when I typed "$50" originally. I meant to show that you'd save a little bit on shipping by buying the full set of 16 as opposed to two sets of 8 was the idea.

NOTE: These are NOT old stock. I have been told now that they are reproductions of the OEM '88 boots made by a quality aftermarket vendor whom the builder I found out about them from has dealt with quite a bit. He says he'd vouch for their quality.
SO, if this changes your feelings about them, please let me know ASAP.
Otherwise, this is what I BELIEVE WE ARE LOOKING AT SO FAR (please let me know if you ARE NOT COMMITTED to buying these):

The first boot on each slider is so easy it's not funny, but that second boot sucks! I was planning to put something together, as I am doing mine now as well. But if something is already done, why not use it! THANKS!

I'm in for 16 ( 4 calipers ) how much more shipping to Canada ?
I will check on the "flat rate" boxes the USPS uses- they are one rate no matter weight to the US, Puerto Rico, Canada and Mexico. I would imagine maybe an extra $5 max for this small a package though. Should be able to send these in a VHS mailer box I think.
Let me know what you think.

I should get them between the 26th and 31st hopefully- but possibly a tad longer, I don't know for completely sure. Then I'll ship out to forum members as soon as I receive their payment.
I'll post pics of the "goods" as soon as I get them so everyone can see that I have them on hand! ( :
