Hey folks, well I've been thinking about doing this for everyone but didn't have the time.
I know how much "short shifters" go for online so I figured I'd give another alternative.
For me to make you a short shifter (arm-length shortened to minimum for stock knob to still be used) FOR ONLY: $10
you pay for actual shipping (Priority Flat Rate wil be $4.95)
Paypal or Money Orders.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. ___________________________________________________ My direct EMAIL and PAYPAL account are: goten@wi.rr.com ___________________________________________________
I use a roto zip to cut down the stock shifter and my new welder to mount the shortened shifter together. took me about 30-40 minutes to get it just right to where I'd be happy with it. welds could have been a little prettier but I had to use flux-core which I hate. I then proceeded to put my body weight (about 157lbs) on it from end-to-end and hopped on it and it doesn't budge one micrometer
here's an installed picture with my leather shift knob from my old camaro:
here's an installed picture with a typical aftermarket shift knob:
hears a picture of the newest shifter I made with a stock knob
heres a couple more pics without a shifter:

Even though I do not need a short shifter, I appreciate all the people in this forum and what they have to offer. I'm sure someone will want a short shifter and not want to do the work themselves...and for $10, it might not even be worth doing the work...just pay you! You get a (+) from me.
Bump.

man are you kidding? i was holding out but decided to go ahead and buy one for like $35.00....geez, talk about my luck...well, hopefully i'll be in need of another some time in the near future
I like this. Sounds like a good deal, as long as your welds are decent (might be a little inconvenient for it to snap off while driving). Would you be painting it?

I'm doing that with my 85 GT, a corvette shift knob, and roughly 2" cut off of the lever so I can see my radio/clock more easily

Send you my stock shifter Pay postage Both Ways
You then : Shorten my shifter ( cut then reweld ) Paint? Ship back to me
Do this sound correct? i just want to be sure i understand correctly as i like the idea but want to understand completely Thanks Ryan
yes, I'd cut then re-weld, as far as paint goes I buy all Rustoleum Products. I'd only be painting the arm/shaft itself not the base as I don't have a media blaster.

I have a brand new welder I'd like to Break-In....I mean "Warm Up" I started welding with my dads 25-30 year old stick-welder meant for Iron and when I went to school to become a Certified Tech/Mechanic I got to weld anything I wanted to my hearts content. but since I Got my Certification I never did open my welder. so I figured I'd help out in the Fiero Community a bit.
I'm going to plug it in tomorrow and do some exhaust work to get a feel for it, then I'm going to make a "Short Shifter" for my 88 Coupe 5-Speed and I can post pictures if everyone would like.
I also though about doing the "Bent Back" look like old 4-speeds use to have. Obviously it would only be as long as a stock Fiero Shifter or possibly shorter. here's a link to what I mean, don't know if I want to do that though...http://www.1962to1965mopar.ornocar.com/images/hurstshifter65.jpg

instead of charging you guys for a "shortened auto shifter" I'll Post a "HOW TO" on here in a separate thread and if you'd want to maybe send Cliff a donation to help keep PFF up and running

I bought a stock shift from a member today, so in a few days I'll make it into a short shifter and put it up for sale at $15 shipped and whoever buys it should let folks know how they like it.
