Haha, a month ago and I would have been all over this! I am dropping an 86 duke in my 87 SE atm Out of curiosity, do you have any idea what shipping would be to 13132? I have to say, if the engine is in good shape, I am still considering this as I would prefer the DIS over the carb'd. Thanks!
Edit: Mileage would be appreciated as well.

Sorry, but I heard you say this before, and thought I should correct you. Yes the 87 is DIS and the 86 isn't, but they both are tbi. The difference is DIS over distributor'd
Don't mean no harm, just thought I would help you out.

so, did you get an idea on shipping? Also, I am told I can have it freighted to drivers village auto mall. I would be interested if I gan get it for around $200 total.
If you haven't sold it, can you let me know shipping to 21225? and is that the same as an '86 duke? I have been trying to collect all the parts for a 3.4 but I'm afraid that my motor's gonna go before I can find all that I need

No it isn't the same as an 86 Duke. an 87 duke is Distributor less. They are a little different. I am preparing to drop an 86 duke in my 87 SE but I would rather have the 87 since I aim at restoring this Fiero. If I could find a cheap and good running one before I finish restoring my engine bay, I would rather install that. Then I would have a perfectly good engine to sell with around 15k since all seals were replaced and tuned up minus the TB that Joesfiero has. I am as well hoping to hear a shipping quote.

87 has a better crankshaft Wider connecting rod beams A better flowing head with a port configuration different enough that 84-86 don't interchange A better flowing intake (which does not fit earlier years) A different throttle body/TPS/Injector/IAC Distributorless ignition CS style alternator Serpentine belt accy. drive.
Swapping 84-86 requires at least (but not limited to) New ECM New engine wiring harness New fuel feed and return lines New throttle cable Re-routing of heater hoses/ install later model cooling tubes.

Indeed! I am not trying to hijack this thread but If I am able to get a hold of a good 87 duke that would be a plug and play swap for my 87 SE I Have an 86 engine w/harness less the TB in great shape that I would be happy to sell it for what I payed for it. $150 + shipping. Also ecm, throttle cable, and fuel lines all in good shape. I bought it all from fierofreak00 and he took very good care of it. But like I said before, if I don't come across one before I am done restoring my engine bay/ rear suspension, all of that is getting installed cause I need this finished and on the road by April. I am hoping that we can both make out on this one.

well, definately keep me up to date. I was building a 3.4 pushrod to replace a tired duke, but I've come up short on hard to find parts, and my motor is now telling me that I'm out of time. Sounds like it could work out for us both

Ed parks told me once that the 87 Duke was the best 4 cylinder year. He even preferred it to the 88 engine. I think that was due to the 87 having an external oil filter

They have the better rods and slightly better crank and better ECM of the later years, without the stupid oil filters or failure-prone balance shaft assembly. Yeah, 87s are the best.
